Does feeling hungry at night....

mean that I have a calorie deficit for the day or just mean that my stomach is empty ?

It's 9.28pm.I have eaten quite a high amount of calories today because i had a chocolate binge for the first time in ages! I usually consume about 600 calories a day and dont go to bed feeling hungry so i am confused as to why i do today after eating at least double that!

I have however , been to the gym and run off 400 of those calories. But still , taking that into consideration.. i have still had an over all calorie intake of higher than usual.

So why is my tummy grumbling? And will I be lighter tomorrow? hehe

Are you saying you usually eat 600 calories in a whole day? That can't be healthy!!! Or did I missunderstand?

No thats right! I think my body is fucked because over the past year i have done on/ off weeks of calorie restriction as means for a quick fix. And then a week of eating normally but i was excercising lots so it wasn't so unhealthy. But now if i eat normally i just gain weight quickly! I did two weeks of eating between 1000-1500 ( no miscalculation because im very strict) And i gained 7 lbs in that time: you can imagine my horror!

So now, as of saturday, i have returned to keeping my calories 600 as to just maintain the same weight ( im aware my problems are a result of my own actions)!!

Anyway , I'm aware its not healthy, im not stupid, but i cant bear to gain any weight again.

The real question really though , was does going to bed hungry mean my tummy is empty or i have calorie deficit?

Well, I'm no expert, but I think your body is telling you I NEED FOOD. :):)
How tall are you? How much do you weigh? I'm 166:(

you gain weight because of your calorie deficit you eat now your body is like holy crap i need to store this as fat because i never eat... so yeah if you start eating normal you will gain weight that's why low cals don't work long term.. Do you have a medical problem and your doctor told you to eat 600 cals a day??

I'm aware this is why i gain weight so quickly! that's why i said its my fault... but its a hard cycle to get out of. Well i always self diagnose myself as having an ailment that makes me gain weight quickly haha but nothing official!

In response to joilgirl. I think im about 133lb( although i was 129 a 2 weeks ago:(... But when i started in March i was 174:]

Holy fucking shit, I'm a little bit surprised you can even move on a daily basis.

Im fine really and i take lots of vitamins! But like i was saying some days i eat more so it probabaly makes up for it. And days i go to the gym i might eat a bit more because i know i can compensate for it.

Also, im wondering whether i should have a little snack if im hungry at night? Will having a small snack improve my metabolic rate?
I just had a scrambled egg with skim milk because im particularly hungry today!

I am just curious here, I eat about 1200+ cals a day and this is nothing I would ever do (although I have tried such things in the past..before knowing all I do now, and of course never kept the weight off)

Whats the solution? How do you work yourself back up to 1200 or so without gaining every inch or lb back? Obviously this is nothing you can maintain throughout your life without seriously endangering yourself so you need to start building back up.

I guess I am just wondering at what point will your body realize it's being fed and start metabolizing those calories at a normal rate. I assume you could expect to gain at least 15-20 lbs back, but hey.. at that point do it again the right way. I know how awful it is to put weight back on but you need to start thinking about your long term health. Concerned for you!! :beating:

Out of curiosity... you say that some days you eat more than 600 calories - do you know how much more? So do you know how much on average you get over a week?

In terms of ramping back up, what I've heard is to add 100 calories a day every week. So if you're eating 1000 calories, the next week you eat 1100, the next 1200 etc.

It would probably be helpful to know how much the 'more' you eat is on the days you work out or just eat more though. It's amazing how many calories seemingly small things can add. ... I'm talking to you, Subway cookies!

I would talk to your doctor as he will explain why this is very bad... i would rather eat healthy gain 20lbs back and loose it the right way then keep goign at your pace is basically suicidal.. have you talk to a mental health professional about your fear of weight gain??

I suggest eating more in the daytime :D

I know we all want to lose weight that is why we are here to have support. But guys our body survives on food and water. Binge dieting is not good! It will only make us sick. My breakfast for today: 1 banana (2points); 1 egg fried with cooking spray, and 1 slice of bologna, 1 PC reg. cheese on 2 PCs of 35 cal bread, (7 points). I have 13 points left for today. I plan to have a Boost high protein (nutritional energy drink 26 vitamins and minerals), 5 points. If I do this I will only have 6 points left. I plan to have a TV dinner that is 5 to 8 points. Or I may have a cup of Whole Wheat spaghetti w/sauce, (5 points), a salad, and a cup of green beans (o points). There are lots of free food I can have if I get hungry! I could have a cup of kale or any type of greens with my boost (o points). I can also have 2 slices of 35 cal bread w/butter (a little country crock), 1 point; with my spaghett dinner.

If you are a big eater and need to lose a lot of weight. Start off my cutting back a little, don't cut food out all together. Not good for you! If you eat two hot dogs, cut down to 1 hot dog. If your normal bowl of cereal is a family size bowl, cut it down to a cereal size bowl. "Portion size"! We need to eat to have energy and we need to exercise and drink lots of water. If you need a soda, drink a diet soda. O calories! But if you are serious about losing; cut out candy, chips, cakes, cookies. But when you lose 5 or 6 pounds and you feel you need a little of this type of food, have just a little and go on. I am big on ice cream (sweet freedom fudge bars) you can have two of these for (1 point) or have a popsicle or frozen fruit.

Clearly your body is in starvation mode most of the times, meaning it never let go off the stored body fat and yes, if you are hungry, that means your body needs more food. Don't kill yourself in the name of weight loss. Do yourselves a favor and eat more.

About 400 calories: 2 scrambled eggs fried w/cooking spray, 2 slices of wheat bread w/tsb of butter, 4 strawberries. About 250 or 300 calories: have cooked oats, slices of banana w/peanut butter, add a sm apple. Or About 350 calories: french toast with wheat toast or 35 cal wheat toast a little lite syrup about a 1/8 of cup, put a little peanut butter on that french toast. Wake up and eat and then walk a mile!

Have a salad for lunch and a sensible supper/dinner.

Drink at least 60oz of water. If you need to at the end of your day, praise yourself with that diet Pepsi! I drink decaf coffee or a cup of herbal tea in the even. Try not eating after 6:00 pm.

Good luck
