Does anyone use a polar heart rate monitor?

Hi, I have been looking around and a few other forums that I use people have been talking about maintaining heart rate to effectively work out. I did some research and found a company called polar, and they have what seems like a great line of products.

But I was wondering if anyone uses them personally? If so do you recommend them? I am thinking about getting an F6 because some of them are way too pricy and has too many bells and whistles for what I'm wanting.

Thanks!
Hope everyone had a great holiday!

I use a Polar FS1 which has proved to be quite good, as a base model monitor it does not have a lot of bells and whistles but works great for knowing when i am in my desired HR range doing exercise. I can calculate calories burned myself (with the information i have) without paying extra for my monitor to do it for me.

Polar is one of the pioneers of the portable heart rate monitors. They have excellent products and you should do well with which ever one you choose.

I have the FS6 and I like it. It does have the history feature that allows you to download and graph your workout history, except it's only for Windblows, if you are using a Mac with OSX, forget it. One of the other nice things that comes with the FS6 is the coded transmitter, which once mated with your unit, forms basically a locked loop system that isn't subject to interference from other HRM's in the area. Nice if you workout in a gym or with another person that wears a Polar HRM. The FS6 also has what Polar calls "MyOwnZone" which allows you to customize the monitor for your style, it's adaptive and programs the monitor for you, once you enter some basic information.

I received mine for Christmas, so I'm really just getting to know it. My Lovely Bride gave it to me, and she received the FS1 from me. After playing with both of them, while the FS1 is a nice unit (it's what she wanted), knowing what I know now, I would purchase another FS6 for her over the FS1, for a couple of reasons. One being the visible second readout on the main screen, it would be very handy for her work, and second being the coded transmitter.

See that was one thing is I do have a Mac, which I still wonder why after all these years they haven't made a mac version. But when you buy the watch do you also get the chest strap? Some say it comes with but on the polar website it doesn't say.

You have to understand their terminology, the T-31 transmitter is the chest strap that you are referring to. In the case of the F6 it comes with the T-31 "Coded" which when linked to the monitor, blocks any other HRM in the area from cross reading to your unit.

You should have Academy Sports in Corpus, that's where we bought ours in Houston. Try looking there if you want to do a touchy feely of the product. Their price was $110.
