does alota protein = gained bodyfat when not working out lots

does alota protein = causes you to gain weight (bodyfat) if your not working out very often ...
i dont see how it can because as long as you control the calories u take in and expend .. and can expend more than you simply wont gain ne more bodyfat.

i heard that protein can increase body fat .. i just dont really think it is.
because here is my case ... as of now im on a small break of weight training because i dont have enuf weights... so all im working now is my chest ... and waiting for a new bench and sets of weights .. but im still taking in alota protein ... i dont want this to increase my body fat ... im trying to lose body fat also.
hope someone gets wat i just said and can help.
thnx

if you eat more calories than you burn off, you'll gain. doesnt matter where those calories come from.

protien

Umm. If abear knew about thing about biology you'd know that protien cannot be stored as fat. CAN NOT. You can break down protien but your body prefers not to because of (i think) the nitrogen it has to break down. Anyway, it puts a streighn on your body to break down protien. One of the reasons the atkins diet is so bad for you. You kidney is severly over worked from trying to break down protien.

Protein will never cause you to gain weight. The only negative that can come from a high protein diet is kidney overload and that's hard to do even for the pro body builders. (Your kidneys are like strainers and too much protein can block passages). The person that told you protein increases body fat needs to stop passing on inadequate information.

ha, you guys are funny. you say i'm wrong then you mention protein is bad for the kidneys. LOL

anyways, no i dont know anything about biology. i care more hitting the weights. this is where i looked to get my answer to his question.

maybe you tough guys should go after them. ;)

blankaa...

Dang abear, you spend way to much time on this sight. You misinturpreted man. What we meant is that if you eat like ALOT of protien, and if protien is one of the only things you eat, THAT'S when it herts the kidneys. That link you posted talks about eating alot of protien but the guys are also eating alot of healthy foods like greens, stuff that has carbs and breaks down slowly. It's all gravy then. Oh yea, and drink ALOT of water.
Did you know that muscle is made of 70% water????????!!!!! Learned that in kinisiology class the other day!

i hit this site once sometimes twice a day. i work on a computer for 8-10 hours a day. what do you expect me to do all that time: WORK??? :D

lets recap

question: can too much protein equal gained bodyfat

abear: yes it can

mike6ft6: If abear knew about thing about biology you'd know that protien cannot be stored as fat.

Michael C: Protein will never cause you to gain weight

that was the point of the post. the more i keep searching, the more i keep finding that you guys were incorrect. the point of this post wasnt about kidneys.

but oh, by the way what i've also seen is that ppl who have existing problems have to worry about their kidneys. you dont hear about all these bodybuilders eating 300-400 grams of protein a day (which is crazy) having trouble. its a myth, if it was true there would be case after case after case.

See, actually, if mike6ft6 knew anything about biology, he would know better. I don't think that every omnivorous culture in the history of mankind would have eatten meat if it could not have been used as energy.

Anyone who says protein cannot be used as energy has been reading too many Atkins pamphlets. While it is true protein will not be stored as fat while on the Atkins diet, this is because of the process called ketosis.

The confusion about Atkins stems from the fact that it is a ketotic diet. To induce ketosis, your carbohydrate supply has to drop to such a low level that glucose production ceases, and your body switches over to internal fat (and dietary fat) as its energy source. That means all those porkchops you eat, and all that butter you pour down your throat won't stay resident in your body and become fat. But this is only the result of ketosis. Try eating a bunch of greasy cheeseburgers on a non-ketotic diet - I dare you.

Brief biology lesson:

Your body uses glucose as its fuel supply. Glucose is derived from carbohydrates. It is glucose that you use when you're running a marathon, lifting weights or simply breathing.

After that hard marathon or lengthy session at the gym, your body will use dietary protein to repair and rebuild the tiny tears in your muscles. Protein cannot be stored for very long in the body. However, (now here's the clincher) if that protein is unused, it's going to all turn to fat. Fat is fat, no matter what caloric macronutrient it comes from.

Class dismissed.

X that last one, who said protien could not be used as energy?

Judecca, I'm just saying that if you eat only protien, you would be in trouble. right? and i do know something about biology!

Protein being used as energy isn't being debated, we all agree on that (don't we?). The issue was with protein being stored as fat.

But yeah, definitely, if you only eat protein, you're in trouble. Unless you're heavily supplemented, your body is going to suffer from a lack of critical nutrients.

my bad

Yea, sorry guys. I'm pretty sure the I was wrong now. My bad! Abear, what do you do for a living? Didn't you say you spent like 8 hours a day on the computer. Crazy stuff

No worries. It takes a big man to admit he's wrong, and if you're 6'6", you're probably already a pretty big guy ;)

I'm just glad I learned you guys somethin' ;)

hey mike6ft6, i apologize for being an ass in my posts. we're all in this together and should be helping each other out. so again i apologize to you. :)

i'm a shipping clerk for fruit of the loom. what about you? is the "6ft6" in your user name your actual height?

You being an ass to me?? If anything, I was the one being an ass. Yea, thats my actual hight. I'm a freshman at KSU.

Since this is a fitness forum, I sould ask a ? I've herd that it takes 48 hours for you body to rebuild your muscles. Is that always true or is it different for how hard you work out?

Also, I have insomnia problems. I rarly get enough sleep. How bad is that going to hinder my muscle growth?

It can take anywhere between 24 to 72 hours, I think, maybe even more more. 48 hours rest time is best between working the same muscle groups.

Sleep is vital, and it's a fine line, too. Get too little, and your body (muscles, brain, nervous system etc.) will not have a chance to repair itself. Get too much, and you'll be sluggish and tired the next day. Personally, I aim to get between 7-8 hours sleep every night, as I found this is my personal best balance. I go to sleep between 12:30-1:00 every night, no earlier or later, and I have my alarm clock set for 8:00 am. This is what works for me though, it could differ from person to person.

I've had insomnia problems for years too, it's tough. But I was able to manipulate my sleeping patterns by running myself ragged in the day so I needed sleep at night. I just kept doing that until my sleeping schedule was back to normal.

On weekends, I get up even earlier. I get up before the dawn to jog, so I can watch the sun rise over the horizon. It's a beautiful time of the day, I think. The world is your own personal playground, and you can do and go wherever you please without being bothered, because everyone else is asleep!

Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. I don a grey hooded sweatshirt, a la Rocky, and shadowbox with light dumbbells in my hands as I jog :D
