Do You Warm Up be4 Exercising?

I do 10 dynamic stretches and activation exercises.

Then, for each exercise, I do three sets:

5x60%, 3x75% and 3x90%.

The percents are approximations of the load I intend to work with.

because I've not yet bought the dynamic stretching DVD, I do light warm up sets, then begin my real sets.
I see no real benefit to doing cardio to warmup for weights.

well, especially for individuals who have had injuries. Most trainers recommend that they warm up their body by doing cardio. :] , although you disagree with this idea. warming up is important imo.

there is this old guy who goes to my gym and he hes had a number of injuries. before he lifts, he always warms up thru cardio and then stretch :]

individuals such as you and me. who are young. I assume your young Malkore ^0^, dont have to do warm up cardio, its not necessary

I warm up by doing about five to ten minutes of cardio. After that i stretch out my muscles.
Yup, that's what I do too, I don't want my muscles to snap when I stretch them.

Cynic, Joey and Malkore have the right of way here.

The only time you should do static stretching before a workout is when a body part is the antagonist (opposing muscle/muscle group) OR if the muscle is pretty sore and will not be the primary muscle in use. Static stretching muscles before workout will cause you to lose 30% power output in that muscle. POWER is EVERYTHING. Regardless of your goals you need optimal power from the muscles to get a quality workout. You want to stretch I would recommend Active Isolated Stretches.....(google it to find out more).

Cardio before to warm up.....ya...you can but dynamic warmups will eliminate the need for that. All the cardio bit is doing is raising the core temprature. Heated muscles tend to be more flexible. This shouldn't be over done. However, if you are warming up, a few minutes should suffice.....anything over 5 minutes and you are wasting energy needed for the actual workout.

Three types of warmups are:
Core temperature - cardio 2-5 minutes
Connective tissue- AIS and Dynamic stretching
Neuromuscular - light loaded sets before the actual exercise

I probably do 50% of my max weight. why? well, 50% or less has no real effect on muscle hypertrophy, so that should mean my warmup sets aren't really 'exercise' so much as some resistance in the motion to promote blood flow ot the muscle, without any muscle tissue being damaged.

I would also say that a huge part of my warmup, is mental focus. I start visualizing my lifts in the early afternoon, and do that all day until my actual workout around 7-7:30pm.

Warm-up sets at at least 50% of my work weight, that's about it. Though, as the weight increases, there will be multiple warm-up sets, getting closer to 75% of my work weight.
