Do you think you need to reach rock bottom?

As per the title, do we, as food addicts of all sorts, need to reach rock bottom before doing something about our weight?

This is no slight on the problems of alcoholics but at least they can give up drinking - we can't give up eating!

If we do have to reach rock bottom I wonder where I am from mine. I guess that's the problem - you don't know till you get there.

yes, i think that you do need to hit rock bottom, before you can really be sucessful at the weight loss and not YO-YO..... I think you know when you have reached rock bottom when you just cant take it anymore.

Yes it will still be hard and a daily battle but you know deep down that its all or nothing and you just have to do it!!! well good luck to you!

Rock bottom, no... not at all...
but if you have a lot of weight to lose, and by that I'd say more than 40-50lbs -you have to be in the right mental place to do it -otherwise it's too easy to give up or just give it hal hearted attempts.

But once you are in the right headspace... then it just comes and those things that once seemed nearly impossible, become possible...

depends on how we define "rock bottom"....

wow, tough question if you are new to the losing weight thing. I can't say that a "weight gain" is necessarily rock bottom....but we do seem to hit a place where we can't take it anymore. I have gained about 60 pounds in the last 3 years while staying home fulltime with bunchkins, working fulltime as well, and working on my doctorate. I really (and quite honestly) think that I was gaining weight and yet still seeing my former self in the mirror...regardless of the size clothes I was buying. My head still said it was ok....I had to find a point to decide I had to change something.

Granted...PLEASE understand that I am new to this....I haven't been on the scale since I joined last week. I'm in "baby step" mode. I just added more water to my day and that's step 1. I'm thinking the next step is getting moving....I've been asking for advice on how to do that through this forum. Maybe that will be the next step.
