Do you Tan as well?

I love to tan not because of the way it makes me look but bc it makes me feel great, it gives me more energy & motivation to work out.
My question to you is, if you DO tan as well do you tan before or after you work out??
I just joined a gym that has tanning booths as well & was wondering how I should pair tanning with my work out. What would you do? Before or after... :p

I used to do the same thing when I was a member of 24hr fitness way back in 2001. My plan was to workout, tan, sauna, then shower. To me, I never felt so great before. I wish my current gym had a tan bed/booth but unfortunately, the US Government doesn't like to spend money on stuff like that for the military. They don't care if you are tan or not. It's just like they don't care if your teeth are cleaned more then once a year. Even though the dentist suggest atleast every 6 mos. Oh well, that's the government.

I'm already mixed race I find that I tan really easily, I even have pale bits on my face from where my glasses are xD
~I prefer to be tanned, it makes my bad skin look a little better, haha!

I use to but I stopped because my 20 year old friend use to do the same thing and just found out she has skin cancer, they have removed like 5 areas on her chest.

AFter I had a 3" hunk of flesh cut out of my chest, a radiation marker implanted in my right breast, and 18 months of mammograms every 90 days, no I don't tan any more.

Seriously ... tanning is STUPID. Are you really really really willing to risk your LIFE so that you have some color in your skin?

Those of you who think you look better tan - tell me that again in 15 years when you have a red puckered scar in the middle of your chest, or on your arms, shoulders, back, and face.

Got to agree. Listen to the medical studies on this one. I never understood why people spend so much time and money on this when there is a high risk that it will kill you. At the very least later in life you are not going to look too great. I have seen some very pretty middle aged women who's skin looks like a dried up old cow hide. Is that worth it? Not to me.

I wish I could tan,but I can't. I have freckles. From what I hear the risk of getting melanoma when your a redhead is high. It's not worth the risk to me so I guess I'll stick with self tanner....

I do not tan. I wear SPF 50 in the summer, and 15 in the winter. I take care not to be in daylight when the sun is at its peak (11am-3pm) and keep an eye on any moles.

I also saw a programme which mentioned someone who used a sun bed weekly. She had very aged skin even at 19 (had been using a sun bed since she was 15) and said she felt it made her skin look better. Then the medic explained that when you tan, as its a form of damage to the skin, the skin 'plumps' up as a reaction, it looks softer and less wrinkled but actually the opposite is happening and the damage is being done, not only that but as the skin is stretched each time its worsened. Eventually the damage will not be able to be hidden anymore and they get premature aging- big time! Think 30 year old looking 50 and your nearly there.

I tan after my work out. I don't tan very often, and don't tan for long periods of time. I do have a nice, light tan. I tan as a 'reward' on those days where I really want to stop my workout early and say 'f' it. Those nights I decide if I finish, I can tan for a bit. I always feel better after tanning and often times find that I have enough renewed energy to workout a bit longer.

And again ... will yoiu have that renewed energy to work out longer when you have to have chunks of skin cut out of your body or when you're having chemotherapy for cancer or when you're dead?

Really people .. TANNING IS STUPID.

Stop tanning. Please. I realize that most young people think they're invincible and that it's not going to happen to them. It's not true.

Tanning is not pretty. You don't look good tan. You look STUPID. You look like the type of person who values vanity over healthy and safety.

I agree, now when I see tan people I don't think "wow, she looks so young and healthy," I think "wow, she's going to have really ugly wrinkles and a lot of cancer in a few years"

Sitting in a tanning bed for 20 minutes causes MORE DAMAGE than sitting in the sun for 8 HOURS!!! Really, even if you went 20 mins a WEEK you are causing 8 hours worth of damage to your skin... NOT A SMART IDEA

How I wish you could come speak to my sister- same skin tone as me (mega pale!) yet has at least 1 sun bed a week...this week went to Egypt...SPF8..... I worry as she is younger then me yet already her friends don't believe her when she tells them she is almost 4 years younger then me. I told her it was due to tanning and all she could say was "oh don't say that" before looking to convince all her friends she was actually younger then me (they thought I was 5-6 years younger then her!) once they knew and had been corrected she seemed happy and still continues to tan.

I worry that I may end up with a motherless neice...

It is very sad. And even if she didn't die, she could get skin cancer and I am sure she isn't going to feel very attractive witch big gashed where they removed it from. Like I said my 20 YEAR OLD friend has been diagnosed with skin cancer, directly related to her going into tanning beds and going in the sun and putting tanning oil on. My other friend also tans a lot. She works at a tanning salon and goes sometimes 2 times a day. I can tell from her skin it is breaking down and she has wrinkles on the sides of her eyes, and she is only 19. I would honestly rather get a spray tan then look like an old woman by 25

I did use to tan in tanning beds every summer because I worked at hooters and they made us either tan or get spray tanned and spray tans were more expensive so I went to the tanning bed. I do tan easily considering Im part native american and eastern european/middle eastern (although Im more than half Irish I have an olive complexion and dark hair). I mostly stopped because its too expensive and I dont work there anymore so I dont have to tan. I saw girls I worked with that smoked and tanned though and oh man.... There was a girl I worked with that was younger than me, at the time she was 20 and she looked like she was in her late 20s in the face. I live in the south so I do get some sun when I go to the pool and such, but Im never super dark anymore and Im okay with that. Im approaching 25 now and Id like to stay looking my age as long as possible lol. I dont condemn people who tan though, your body, your choice.

Ummmm. I think I just got a wakeup call.

A lil history first....a few months ago, I booked our first family vacation and thought I should get started on that tan. So....I put down a hundred dollars and got 240 minutes worth of a stand up tanning booth. These are the suckers that roast you in half the time of a laydown bed.

I went every second day for a month to get a "base". Went on vacation and it was freezing cold...(last week of feb first week of March.) So needless to say, I didn't need a base...it was too cold to lounge in the sun!. I wore a sweatshirt most days on the beach...sometimes a jacket!. (The avatar was my "swimming in the ocean" pic....it lasted 2 minutes...I was frozen! lol)

Anyways, after getting back home, I figured I should use up the minutes by going for a tan once a week.

I was planning to refill my minutes this week....until now.

I had no idea about how serious and dangerous these tanning beds were. I see these beds everywhere up here, (great white north) and never thought twice about them being harmful.

Thank you for sharing your experiences and thoughts on this. I am truly saddened by the effects these beds have on people.
No more tanning for me. (I literally feel like a deflated balloon right now.)
I hope this information reaches others as it has me.

Thanks

My best friend died of skin cancer at the age of 34. She used to tan a lot when she was younger, but then stopped it because she was worried about what it might do to her skin. Unfortunately, at that point it was already too late. She was diagnosed in April, and died in October, and I was there with her all the way. I wouldn't wish what she had to go through to my worst enemy. And all of that for a bit of a tan.

Don't. Just don't.
