Do you buy smaller clothes?

Does anybody else do this? I buy smaller clothes, like one size smaller then is comfortable to motivate myself to get into them. I do it mainly with jeans, and expensive jeans so I have incentive. After I had my son my mom bought me new jeans that seemed hopeless, they were a size 20 and I was a 22. But, I got into them. Then it was an 18, now I'm in those and thinking of getting online and ordering a 16 for motivation. I was just wondering if this is a weird quirk about me or if other people who struggle with weight do this also.

I'm guilty

Yes I tend to pick up really cool clothes that they don't even make in my size so I can be like well, if you want to fit into those Zebra Print Strech Jeans then girlfriend get with it! Yes my fashion sense has alot to be desired, but I totally get what you are saying. I have a drawer of fat clothes that don't fit any more because they are too big and a drawer of cool skinny clothes that I want to be fitting into but they are just too small. Ocassionally when I am having a "skinny day" (you know the ones where you feel like you must've dropped a size overnight) I might try them on only to realize I still need to lose some more weight for those heights of bad 80's punk fashion! (maybe it's a good thing I can't fit into them, how old am I again?) haha :D

i'm not buying anythig yet because 1. i was born w/out that female gene of actually liking to shop - I hate it- I hate going to malls and being around people online shopping is alittle better but that still annoys me.. so I'm bringing out my handy dandy sewing m achine andhopig for the best...

When I hit my first big goal (in 34 pounds) then I'll buy a few ensembles...

I bought a couple of pair of new jeans UK size 34 when I thought that I had lost enough ... Too baggy now that I'm a UK size 30 :)

UK size 30! That is pretty dern small. I can't wait to hit 30" waist! Just 8 more inches to go! EEK! That's alot better than the 45"s I started with though! I do lots of sit ups but you can't tell with all of the excess fat on my belly. I have a real problem with all of my extra weight staying in the middle, if I can just sort that out I would be fine!!

I don't buy smaller jeans, but I did buy a shirt that I can squeeze into, but will only look good on me when I lose at least another 10 lbs:D

I still have some flab around the belly - darned residual body fat! I'm aiming to maintain or even bulk weight for the next six months or until I'm happier - then I'll get back to tackling that the left overs of my beer belly.

It is great - finding nice small clothes on the peg that fit just nice, but the real fight is going to be keeping it up long term.

i actually have a pair of jeans that used to fit( about 25 lbs ago) my goal is to get into those (they were skin tight when they fit anyway) but take it one step farther and the ultimate goal is for those pants to feel lose!! cant wait! that is real motivation. also my boyfriend is giving me motivation, he is going to buy me a pair of true religion brand jeans when i hit my goal! i think about that everyday! :)

this craked me up... Mal what is a hopig?:p ha ha ha gasp ha ha ha that is some funny sh*t!!! and yes i do buy clothes that don't fit me in hopes of fitting into them one day. i HAVE THIS TOTALY COOL OZZY SHIRT THAT IS PINK AN BLACK. ANOTHER 80LBS AND i am there!!!:) :D It keeps me motivated an focused on what i could be if i persevere!!!

i sorta do something like this but not often... because I really can't afford it. ^___^;; For example, I was a size 28. And now I'm smaller than a 26. But not yet a 24. I bought a 24 knowing I will fit into them in a month or two. I will probably not buy a smaller size with every size I drop. That'd be just way too expensive for me. O_O;;

I have done this as well. I'm 5'7 and a half, and wear an 18. I have some 16's stashed that I pull out every now and then!

maleficent, you could always shop ebay! No lines or people! Hee hee...
I love ebay. I'm not a big fan of shopping either. Too much hassle.

I only shop online for clothes. I'm just too shy to go into a shop and buy big huge clothes. I went to American Eagle a few weeks ago to get a hoodie and I was in the guys section to get a XX and one of the sales guys was like "oh, shopping for your boyfriend?" and I was like, "none of your business." I bought my hoodie and got the heck out of there. Hello, obviously I can't buy anything on the womens side. And what poor fool would date me? lol.

I have zero patience for ebay... I can't say enough bad things about it...

Rubbish... no matter what size you are - if you like who you are - that shows.. and you would find someone to date... beauty comes from with in and it comes from loving yourself for who you are... confidence is very sexy... What poor fool would date you"? HA what poor fool wouldn't date you...

Alright, I just did the deed and bought a pair of size 16's online, and no stretch denim either, this is the real stuff...lol, although stretch denim is so forgiving of our sins.
has anybody noted the new skinny jeans look, YUCKY! I hate it already...I hope it goes away.
And Mal, thank you for trying to discourage my depreciating attitude, but I'm afraid men look right through me to the skinny chics standing behind me. Either that or I'm ugly and fat on the inside too, either way I havn't dated in 2 years, havn't even been asked out.

Iwan you have lost 4 lbs! You are posting here! You are on the right track. Focus on the positive things. That will make you shine inside and out.

I definitely buy shirts and pants that won't fit for another 5-10 lbs!!!

It's funny I found this thread, because my mom and I were talking about changing clothing sizes just this morning. She has a client who has opened a resale boutique for women in San Antonio that will sell larger size clothes. We talked about how as you gain weight or lose weight you have all these clothes that don't fit and you can take them in there to sell. And as you are losing weight, you can't afford a whole new wardrobe every time you drop a size, so why not pick up some clothes at the resale shop, then sell them back once you drop another size.

I think it's a brilliant idea. With the number of people with weight problems in America (and elsewhere!), and with women who are trying to lose weight not wanting to shop at traditional stores, this seems like an idea that could really take off. So if you don't have a shop like that near you, open one up and you'll have first pick of all the clothes that come and go.

/me jumps up on soapbox... and doesn't look down cuz i'm terrified of heights.

You arent ugly on the inside... very few people are... and there are men (not stupid boys who are more interested in arm candy than a real woman) who would be interested in you.. You have to love yourself first - no matter what size you are... you love yourself.. and the men will follow...

Remind yourself of your good qualities... you are more than a number on a scale..

Iwan here is my take on that.....screw thoes kinda guys, because they will forerver be looking past what is with them to what could be with them, the chicks that end up with thoes kinda dudes are miserable and unhappy, no matter how cute and skinny they are:confused: I agree with Mal love youreself and the rest will fall into place!!! And from yur posts you are NOT ugly in anyway i can see:D

Ok. Iwan: Why are you sitting around 'hoping' that 'Mr. Right' is going to knock on your door? Get up off your ass and start enjoying your life, start taking risks, go to the movies by yourself, go to a restaurant by yourself, go to a club with friends---Stop worring about dating and enjoy yourself. Trust me. After 7 years of marriage I can tell you that you'd better enjoy yourself now because after you're married you'll be pickin' up his clothes and dirty dishes for the rest of your life!!

If you always wait for someone else to make the first move you're never going to go anywhere.

Next rant: You are not overly over-weight. 80 pounds left right? Thank your lucky stars that you're not my husband---he's 474 pounds, he has 300 pounds to go. Why do you want to date a guy that's only interested in you because of your looks? It has been my experience that guys who know they're hot are a$$holes and they attract slut girlfriends. Find yourself a nice guy who likes you for you and not your size 0 jeans.

Ya know...since I've turned 30 I just don't let anyone tell me what to do or feel anymore. It's made me a bit brazen and somewhat of a bitch---but I know what is right and I know that I'm right about what I'm saying to you. It's a bit harsh but sometimes we all need a little shake to wake us up.

That said: I'm too cheap to buy clothes that don't fit me. I already have a closet full of clothes that 'used to fit' and I'm now hoping I 'will fit' in a few weeks.

I should start a journal and post pics so you'd understand what I'm living with here. I may not be as big as some of you but sometimes even skinny chics can't get a date because of their faces. I have 2 siblings and none of us are attractive, but I'm considered the "ugly one". And I've accepted that and I don't hate myself, I am for the most part happy. Just lonely, but I'm getting used to that. I figure if I lose weight it would be one less thing working against me, but I'm not losing weight to get a boyfriend, I had a husband that I divorced because he treated me like dirt and I was 60 lbs lighter when I met him. I'm losing weight because I don't want to die young, I'm doing it for me and for my son.
On a happy note, I live in such a remote area those pants I ordered probably wont get here till october, so maybe...MAYBE by then I'll be able to fit in them, but that is a stretch considering right now my 18's are tight when they come out of the dryer and only losen up a little bit with wear.
