do they look as lean as they are in real life?

I've always wonder if those models or actors we see in the photos look really nice or because their photos are taken at correct angles with perfect lighting with some shining cream? or its really true that they are that lean? when i take pics of my body i look kinda lean however when i look in the mirror it doesnt look as nice as i look in the photo.. do u think that models or actors depend on lighting or angles to make them look better? at least i might have been deceived by these effects.. lol ..
i wonder..

Yes correct lighting, frame rate, aperture size and angles. Also good equipment. And PhotoShop.

Plus they most probably look pretty damn good in the flesh.

I think it's hard to be self aware, actually. Like to me, everything looks the same as it did before pretty much. But my brother comes over and says stuff like "dude, your arms are huge!" and one time we even compared forearms and I can barely tell. I've had a lot of other people make comments too, but I think it's because looking at your relative body size and everything from your perspective is different than everyone else's. I think models and actors really do have a good build and the light and angles would definitely help the models but not the actors as much.

in certain angle i do look thinner and some angle i'd look more built.. however
looking at myself too much.. i guess i'll notice weaknesses and gains as well.. just dono how much.. however i guess lighting does play a big role cos a well lit gym makes a person look better plus many mirrors.. lol..

Yes, DEFINATELY, lighting plays a huge role in how you look. For me though, I look bigger in real life/mirror than in pictures. I think this though is because of flash and how it makes the cuts in your muscles less apparent.

flurescent lights at night time make you look bigger no doubt about it. In the morning when the sun shines through my bathroom window i look smaller (at least from my perspective) than i do at night time when it's dark and i got the light on.

I work in the industry and you would be surprised how much doctoring & touchup goes into those photos.
