Do not weigh yourself everyday.

A few weeks ago I read something about how often should you weigh yourself while trying to lose weight?

I think a lot of people do it everyday including me. But experts suggest that you do it once a week, and I totally agree.

When you do it everyday it fluctuates a lot, whether it's after or before your meal, after or before you went to the bathroom, after or before you drank water. And results are not very obvious. Therefore you get de-motivated a little, then you stop doing it altogether.

4 years ago while I was in college I lost 25lbs over 4 months, and on average about 2lbs per week. I weighed myself once a week on Mondays when I came back to my dorm from my parents house. And it felt really good looking at that smaller number, and it kept going.

So! I feel it's really good if you can keep a chart on the wall, and pick a day of the week to weigh yourself, keep track. Award yourself when you see results! For example, a new nail polish, a new hair color, etc. :)

Good Luck!

It just depends on the individual as to how often they can weigh themselves. Once the person has an understanding of why their weight fluctuates, weighing more often shouldn't pose a problem.

I typically weigh myself every morning and sometimes more often than that. I don't get discouraged by it at all and it hasn't affected my weight loss. :)

I weigh in every day. I don't know why I do it...maybe cause I expect to see some crazy number or something.

And like you said....its disheartening to find you've increased 2 lbs in the course of a couple of days when you didnt cheat or actually worked harder at your goal. But I guess a lot of factors come in to play, like water retention etc.
Two days ago, I was 215.2. This morning I was 217. Aye Karumba.

But even knowing that, I still like to weigh in. Self punishment I guess lol.

Take care

Reee- I think I just might do that. I get on the scale every time I'm near it and it's killing me. It feels great when I go in and it reads a couple pounds lower, but then it feels even worse when it's higher lol. Maybe I can put the scale somewhere out of the way and avoid that area of the house until my weekly weigh in... hmmm... Thanks!

I weigh myself every day, when I wake up and have been to the loo. I weigh myself once a day because of weight variation throughout the day. This is a complete 180 where I hardly ever weighed myself and was in denial about my weight. This helps me stay in my goal weight, and keep me accountable.

My weight loss didn't start until I started weighing myself everyday because it kept me motivated and made me think what is the consequence if I eat a lot and get lazy, it tends to keep you track of your goal in my experience. Doing a weigh in everyday for me is like a self check and reminds me " to stay in track!"

If you only weigh yourself once a week, the day you pick to weigh yourself could be the one day where your weight spiked up a couple of pounds. Had you been weighing yourself every day, you would know that. But now, since you only weigh yourself once a week, you are going to be discouraged for a whole week.

I weigh myself every couple of days usually. Maybe every other if I'm at home, but this week it's been about 10-11 days if not more. And it's killing me!! I don't have any scales here so I have to wait til I get home.

LOL
I guess weighing everyday is becoming addictive, when the scale is right there, it's very hard not to step on it.
Of course choosing what works best for ourselves is the smart way to go. For me once a week is very encouraging.
2 days ago when I weighed myself I actually gained 1 lb from last Tuesday, but this morning (the same time I weighed last Tuesday) I actually can see that I lost 3 lbs.
So good to see all you guys have lost so many pounds. It's so motivating!
Keep fighting GUYS!
