Differences in Size/Measurements while losing weight

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some feedback on how much and how fast your clothes measurements changed while you were losing weight. In particular, I'm looking for information from the guys (or people who might have some insight on that aspect). I know that everyone's experience is going to be different; in fact I'm anticipating getting some varied responses due to differences in height, rate of weight loss, methods and diet, and the such. Some of the measurements I'm curious about are:

shirt size
pants size
hat size
wrist measurement (watches, etc)

I looked earlier today for some information along these lines in the WLF but couldn't the answers I see. If there's already a thread that addresses this issue, I'd appreciate being pointed in that direction.

Thanks,

I'm female, and I tend to change pretty quickly. 7-10 lbs. of loss seems to equal a pants size for me. For men I don't know if it's different... I guess it depends on what percentage of you that loss is. I hope some guys can help you out.

I'm also a female. I hope lots of people post in this topic, as this is a fun thing to keep track of!

At 160lbs, I'm between a size 12-14
At 140lbs, I was about a size 8

Thank you for your replies. :) I'm hoping some more people chime in too! I've been looking at clothes and the such that I'd like to wear when I get near my goal weight, and I'm trying to get an idea of when I need to start thinking about getting clothes while I'm losing!

I lose a size only every 10 lbs I'd guess but that's because I wasn't that overweight to start with. (Used to be years ago but now I just decided to get the last bit off)

125 lbs - pants: 27-28 inch, europe size 38/40 uk size 10, US size 6/8

115 lbs - pants: 26_27 inch, europe size 36/38, uk size 8, US Size 4/6

Ooops, thought I should mention Height. important I guess when clothe sizes come! I'm 5"3 tall =)

My shirt size went down quicker than my pants. I would probably say this was due to my muscle loss. In hind sight, i would not have lost so fast and tried to salvage as much muscle as possible.

In the 2 years i have been doing this, this is probably the first time i have thought about my hat size. It never crossed my mind.

I never wore a watch before but i can say i couldnt out my fingers around my wrist but i can now. I always thought i coulndt do this because i was "big boned" but realize i was just fat wristed.

Hope this helps.

Matt

Thank you sinui and usedtobefatmatt! :)

Matt - I never really gave any thought to some of those measurements until I started looking at stuff I'd perceivably like to wear when I reach my goal weight. When I searched for information about this topic online and in the WLF I couldn't find anything! Your detailed response is appreciated! :hurray:

It really varied for me and I have to say that I didn't track it much at first because I refused to accept that I was getting thinner until a friend told me if I didn't go buy new clothes, she'd do it for me. :)

So I went from a size 22/24 pant and 2x top to a size 16/18 and a large for my first big change. I think that was from 240 lbs to around 190 or 200.

After that I want to say I lost a size every 10 or 15 lbs. Right now I weigh 170 and I'm wearing mostly size 12s, with a few size 10s thrown in there.

Late last year I was down in the low 160s and my 12s were getting very loose ... but then I kinda slacked off and stalled out. I'm hoping to get back there this summer. :)

clothes sizes...

female, started at 325 size 28, well bursting out of them.

Lost 53# currently and am comfortably in size 24 or 2X. That's only 2 sizes.

This is what I noticed went from 26/28 to 6/8

Hi there. I'm new too, but joined to try and share my experiences. I lost 150 pounds twelve years ago and kept it off. I noticed that I didn't see a big change in my clothing size until I lost about 30 pounds. Maybe that's because some of my clothes were already tight! It took longer for the pants size to change than the shirt sizes. After about 50 pounds then I could really start to tell. It seemed to me that the smaller size you are, the quicker you will see the size change as you lose weight. Just my experience. Good luck to you and it looks like you are on the right track!

Im a 5'10" female and when I weighed 170, I was about a size 10 jeans. Now at 195-200, I am a size 14 jeans. But keep in mind that I am a very long-limbed individual who gains most weight in the middle. :p

I wouldn't know about hat size though. I have yet to find a hat in a store that actually fits on my head! (I have a very large head..)

So yes I think about every 10-15 pounds a size is lost. However, it truely does depend on the person...

Losing weight, not dress size

Well, I have lost 30 lbs , no change in clothes now at 130 lbs I'm still size 12-14, most of weight gone seems to be from arms, neck , maybe because I'm older and I don't work out with weights, just walk every day .

Okay let's see how complicated I can make things...;) JK

6' @ 155-162 lbs, boobz got bigger, & since I've always had a hard time finding tops due to long torso, long arms, I was fitting a Large. Sometimes Extra Large in Jacket.

Bottom's: Skirts, Pants; 32W, 34-36L, Medium-Large, 6-8-10

Now 138-140 lbs, Boobz are back to being smaller, XS-Small-Medium tops, Jackets will prob still be Medium to Large, so I can get the body length and arm length with the extra material.

Skirts, Pants; XXS-XS-Small, 2-4-6, I haven't bought any new jeans, Belt buckle is tighter though, and my butt in the jeans is extra material, I dislike shopping for pants. ;) My waist says 29 though as of late. I still have another 10 lbs to go.

I actually just tightened my ball cap last night. I also have a big head. haha ;)

Wrist was 6.5 or so is now 5.5, I don't think it will become smaller than that.

Wishing you all the best on your weightloss journey!! :D:hurray:

I figured since I originally asked about measurements changing, that I'd post here about some of the differences I've noted.

I'm 6' tall, 31 years old. When I started losing weight in May, I was at 360 lbs, and wore size 48 pants (a bit snug around the waist) and 4X shirts (with a bit of room). I'm currently at 307 lbs, and I comfortably wear size 44 jeans and can almost wear 42, and my old 4X shirts look huge on me! I'm wearing size 3X shirts now.

I'm going to be in a wedding this October so when I go in for my final measurements I'll be able to give some more definitive figures on neck/chest/waist measurements!

Hey, great job on the weight loss so far Unrec..!
This is a fun reply to me because I've made my first change to smaller pants this past weekend.
I'm 47 yo guy, started Jun 24th at 260 pounds. This morning weighed in at 234. I started in 40inch pants and am not fairly comfortably wearing 38s. I was wearing mostly 2XL shirts, but am now wearing several XL shirts that were too tight when I started. Also, my watch is flopping around my wrist very loosely. I can get my wedding ring on now, but a bit too much salt in a day will make it too tight. (I got married at 175 pounds).
To me, it's a lot more fun to see these kinds of changes that just seeing a lower number on the scale.

Keep chugging along....

Dave

Thank you for your reply, 180. :) Grats on your weight loss as well! It is really telling to put on clothes that used to fit me perfectly and have them fall off. On days where I don't feel like I'm making progress I just pull one of those shirts out and stand in front of the mirror with it on! lol

Well, when I started I was wearing 3XL shirts. By 30-40 lbs lost I was down to 2XL shirts. These are roomy now, but I don't think I'm quite ready for XL yet, although a few of my female friends think I am. XL is just a little tight feeling, and although I know part of that is just fat guy body-consciousness, I still don't want my shirts clinging to me.

Pants: at 311 I had switched to track pants because my 42 pants were too tight. Now I can easily wear a 40 pant, but 38 is still too snug. If you're wondering how I wore such a (relatively) small pant at that weight, it was because I wore them down low, under my ridiculously huge gut.

For generic track pants and shorts I am now wearing L instead of XL.

What I can tell you is how much my measurements have changed. In 4 months I lost 7" off my chest and waist, 5" off my hips, and 2" off my neck. The only change in my wrists is a 1/4" reduction on my right wrist.

Hope this was useful.

Thanks Cord!!

I'm looking forward to seeing what my new neck/chest measurements are in the next month or so. I have no clue what size dress shirt I'd buy right now. I'm going to need a coat and stuff for this upcoming winter and I'd like to have a handle on that stuff before there's a foot of snow outside! :ack2:

Wow, dude; you've lost a ton since starting.

My mission has been a bit slower; started in January at 210, now at 174. . .

Anyways, I was a 36-38 waist, XL shirts.

When I hit 185, the pants started to get a bit loose. . .
At 180. . .really loose, and I noticed my dress shirts started to look pretty big on me.. .
At the high 170s I went shopping.
Down to a 32-33 waist and medium size for most shirts, size 16 1/2 dress shirts. On the latter, I had to buy a new dress shirt, and for the first time was able to fit into a 'semi-fitted' shirt with no issues.

But. . .this gets pricey, and the 'El Cheapo' gene runs in my family. I had to get a suit taken in the other day. When I put it on for the tailor, it looked like a hand-me-down on a younger teenaged sibling. 130$ later, it looks better.

Like a lot of people, I'm keeping a couple garments just as a reminder never to let myself go again.

Curious. . .not to jack the thread, but why do some lose so much quickley? This didn't happen for me.. .
