Diets don't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Everyone

I am probably going to get slaughtered for that HEADLINE, but it is the truth.

Like most people on this forum, I have always wanted to be skinner than I was naturally. In fact, looking back, my struggle to lose weight started from as far back as my early teens. Don't get me wrong, I was never really big, but I ever so slightly bigger than most of my friends.

I come from Africa where, it was almost impossible to find weight loss gurus, calorie counted meals and diet foods. So my only option was starvation diets.
I would go without food from morning till 6pm at night, and then have one big meal to satisfy myself. Did it work, you bet it did. At first I lost weight rapidy and quickly but that slowed with time.

But how did going without food for hours on end leave me, CRANKY!!!, to say the least............(to be continued)

P.S I am not one for posting long messages because I feel you will get bored and just skim through. So I will continue my story another day.

You are partially right. Diets don't work because of the negative innuendos attached to the word. Like you stated, you starve yourself to the point you binge eat and stop doing the necessary items to lose the weight.

Weight loss begins with nutrition. Call it a "lifestyle change". You MUST figure out what your caloric count should be and follow it. monitor what you eat so you are not starving yourself. The most important thing you must drill into your head is that it's ok to cheat. It is perfectly alright to have small rewards throughout the week. I still give myself a very small portion of desert every other night. Guess what, I have lost 16 lbs in 9 weeks (2 weeks of which I have traveled across the country and was forced to eat at restaurants for breakfast, lunch and dinner).

This journey begins with nutrition. On top of nutrition, you must have an exercise routine that consists of weight training and cardio.

These are your keys to success. Any questions, feel free to message myself or Steve. He is a genius when it comes to this topic.

Hello Everyone

Thanks to all those that replied, as a newbie to the forum, it is nice to know there are people willing and ready `to help.

It's quite late at night here in the United Kingdom (oh, did I forget to mention that I now live in the UK? Sorry) but as you may have guessed from my first post, I don't do diets, gave up on them a year ago. I have taken another approach, a very simple approach indeed, not to do diets but still lose weight.

Impossible? Not so.

Lose weight without diet? You failed to mention exercise. Impossible? no. Setting yourself up for failure? definitely. There is no miracle cure. You will lose water weight and muscle mass. You need diet and exercise for short AND long term success. I think you best lay off those fish and chips.

I think you best lay off those fish and chips.

The most ridiculous statement ever!!!!

Everyone knows that Fish and Chips are SOOOOOO tasty, and due to this they contain no calories and are full of every good vitamin the body needs..like tastiness B12, and greasy B6 :gnorsi:

Weird problem with belly fat

I agree with you. Diets SUCK. I don't even eat pastries, fried foods ( I hate fried foods anyway, every kind there is ), and I don't sit around all day. I'm constantly on my feet and walking around both at home and at work. That's a calorie-burning event the entire day into the night. I've never been fat. However... I've had four kids, and now when I sit down, the belly fat literally hangs over my pants, and when I stand up, it looks like my pants are choking the life out of my love handles. (If I buy the pants one size bigger than they are now, I'll be dragging the bottom of the pantlegs across the floor) Funny thing is....

I'm SKINNY everywhere else. People, even my parents, complain that I need to eat more. If I lifted up my shirt, they'd ask if I was pregnant! I can't diet or seriously exercise AT ALL without risking losing weight. My doctor already says I'm underweight, and I agree - my arms are toothpicks! I eat like there's no tomorrow, and I'm feeling nausea and my stomach starts growling just a couple of hours after a meal.

I can't diet - I'm just 129 pounds at 5'4". I can't exercise more than the all-day walking thing. Both of those would seriously risk my weight. So....

How the heck do I lose the fat that's hanging over the hem of my pants?!

:banghead:

Hello Everyone,

I like I said in my first post, I, like most people here have struggled to lose weight for years. I am here to share my experience and to offer an alternative. I understand that not everyone will want to try the alternative but remember that the definition of madness is "doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results" It is time to try something different.

Diets have been shown over and over again to only work in the short term. Most people who lose weight only manage it for a couple of months and at most 1 or 2 years before they gain it all back. The question is why do we keep banging over heads against the wall?

Anway back to my story, after trying starvation diets for many years and of course not getting very far, I decided to pack it all in. To be honest what happened was that at the age of 22, i needed to sit for a professional exam in accountancy and 6 months before the exams, I made a decision to forget about diets for once in my life and focus on my exams. I really wanted to do well and I needed all my energy for studying.

Guess what, that was the one time in my life I lost weight. The one time I was not thinking about diets and losing weight, was the one time I lost weight. Food was no longer my focus and I naturally wanted to eat less of it. In fact I did not know I was losing weight until I started getting comments from people.

So what am I trying to get across here, diets make you focus on food and in life you always get more of what you focus on.

You are an idiot. You are mentioning starvation diets as your point of reference. Hello, anyone who has half a brain knows that you can't expect to lose weight starving yourself. Thank the supermodels out there for this one, though. I've managed to lose 17 lbs now thanks to GOOD exercise with cardio and weight training AND watching what i eat. I call it a lifestyle change, not a starvation diet. I eat small snacks throughout the day so I am not killing myself. I allow small treats like candy every now and then. I have lost weight and I look a ton better.

Please take this negative attitude elsewhere. All of us here have our success stories. You obviously want to try and fool people here into some magic pill that doesn't exist. Just go away.

Diets still don't work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you ever met an educated spammer?

Hello Everyone

I am quite shocked at the resistance that maybe, just maybe there is an alternative to weight loss diets. I am not a negative person, but I do ask questions and if something is not working then it should be dumped and an alternative sought.

Back to Steve, Yes, I do have a website and yes, I did put the website address on as part of my signature. That was done out of habit and as you can see it has been taken off. I am not here to spam. If I was, I would be long gone after the attack from the MIGHTY AND SACRED ONE, STEVE. (One who is to be worshipped because he controls the forum) No, seriously every one, I did struggle with my weight for years and also suffered from low self esteem.

Let me continue my story, after coming to the United Kingdom, about 13 years ago, I tried some other diet programs. I tried weight watchers, but I found counting points tedious, some of the food tastless and was left hungry a lot of the time. I lasted about a month on that before I packed it in. I then moved on to Rosemary Conley,(she is a guru here in the United Kingdom)again that was also counting calories and fats and did not last on that either.

You see it is easier for folks like you where your foods and what you eat is well counted in calories, grams and fats but what about people like me who come from other regions of the world where what we eat is not so documented in terms of calories and fats?

Does that mean we have to give up on losing weight or do a 360 degree turn and dump the foods we have been brought up with and eat just English or American foods?........

Are you beginning to see where I am coming from?

To be continued

Gimmicks are proven not to work in the long run. Again, why do you hide from the idea of a lifestyle change, and my thoughts on the subject? You have yet to address a single statement I have made.

Step off your high horse (it's only about an inch off the ground anyways)

So you're basically admitting you are extremely lazy and wanted weight loss to occur without any thought or hard work behind it? I see....

You see it is easier for folks like you where your foods and what you eat is well counted in calories, grams and fats but what about people like me who come from other regions of the world where what we eat is not so documented in terms of calories and fats?

Google.com is your friend if that is the case. Again, you are showing everyone your laziness and/or lack of thought.

Does that mean we have to give up on losing weight or do a 360 degree turn and dump the foods we have been brought up with and eat just English or American foods?........

Only if you are an uneducated Spammer

Are you beginning to see where I am coming from?

Yes, you're a lazy and stupid spammer who is trying to hook people who are already succeeding in our lifestyle changes on a fake and imaginary cure that won't work.

To be continued
please, for the love of God no.

You have a point about thinking more about food if you're on a diet but the flip side is if you don't think about it sometimes you slip into eating whatever and whenever you want and the pounds just pile on.......
