dieting sucks, help?

like many in this forum, i want to lose weight and make myself look better, but i am very impatient in this process...i usually think of eating a meal as cheating on
my diet...heres an example, i have a bowl of cereal in the morning (300 calories), come home from school and have another bowl of cereal (at 2:30), and when its about 4:00 some cravings hit and i want ot eat again, but i feel its too early cuz its before dinner time, but if i choose to eat something i immediately drop the diet for the day cuz i ate something at a time i shoudlnt have...ive heard of course to spread meals out throughout the day, 5-6 meals a day, but how am i supposed to do that and still have less than 1500 when im used to having larger amounts for each meal...that would equal to about 300 calories per meal, which could be a single protein bar, or a bowl of cereal...i feel like i failed my diet if i go over about 1000 calories just because it feels like i ate too much...how much should i have calorie-wise to lose around 3 pounds a week? i feel that if i dont eat very small amounts of food each few hours that im not doing a diet right, someone help me think of a way to have a good diet that still allows me a good amount of food and still low calories...o ya, also im 14, 170 pounds, and 5' 8''

at your age you are really going to have to get your parents in on this with you. Cereal is not going to give you what you need so of course you are hungry. I am allowed 1300 calories a day and eat plenty, because i eat the right foods. Make a shopping list for your parents and get the following...

Chicken breasts (lots of them, you can usually buy bulk bags of chicken at sams club for really cheap)
Lean (96% to 97% fat) ground beef. While Sirlon is better, money wise the ground beef is cheaper.
Oatmeal
Veggies that you like
Sweet potatoes or White/red potatoes
100% whole grain bread/buns
Low fat/non fat cheese and Skim milk
Fruits you like
Eggs and Egg whites (not egg beaters, get 100% egg white)

With that kind of food you can eat a massive amount, get the right amount of protien and good carbs and not be hungry at the end of the day. If your parents really care about you, they will get involved in you making yourself healthy and happy. However get in that kitchen and do some cooking. 14 is old enough to start making simple meals for sure, so make yourself some lean hamburgers on wheat buns, some oatmeal, Omletes with 1 whole egg and 2 egg whites. Start out simple, then trust me you will get there.

i should have mentioned that the cereal i eat is total and raisin bran......anyway, my parents dont support me at all...i tried to give them a list of food for them to buy, and they refuse to buy most of it becaues they believe that ill "never eat it," because apparently if a parent says it, it must be true...so ya ill have to find some other way to lose weight

Well i mean total and raisin bran are better than mcdonalds, they still don't provide the nutirients you need. I am sorry you parents aren't supportive, but there are still alot of things you can do in this situation.

1. If you get any allowance take that money and by the food you want. Skim milk and a 100% whole wheat loaf of bread arent that expensive. When you can get whatever you can in the house. Maybe if they see you make some effort on your own they will be more likely to help you out. Parents kind of work on that you give a little they give a little moto.

2. Seek out what you do have in your house that is good. Start trying to be creative. Take your whole wheat bread and put some cold cuts on it with no mayo. Have a cheese wrap with some veggies. There has got to be some way to lessen the bad. Drink tons of water, no soda or sugar juices, diet or regular. Make a waffle but dont add tons of syrup, when you get fast food get a salad or grilled sandwhich and no fries. It make take a little longer but trying to make some smart choices will help in the long run.

3. What you can't do with your diet, you can try to make up for with excercise. Get in the cardio and strength training, but also take some simple easy walks more, in general try to be more active. Ride around on a boke, not trying to break a sweat, just trying to not sit infront of a computer or watch tv.

4. Remember you are young and that your growing body needs nutrients. So don't starve yourself, get food, just try and do the best you can with what you got.
