Dieting and exercising. Was losing weight but now gaining?

I have been exercising and dieting to lose weight and for past week and a half I have been losing about 700 grams a day or 4.1 kilo a week.

However this week I had some strange problems the first day I lost a massive 1.3 kilos in a day but then the next day without changing anything I do or eat, I lost nothing??

and the next day after that doing the same I actually gained 700 grams!!

I have only been doing routine for past 2 weeks so couldnt believe my body is adapting already to the exercising and that the weight gain has plateaued.

Stats:

1. Height - 170cm / Weight - 103.4 KG / Age - 30 / Male
2. Eat - about 1200 calories per day. Wheat biscuits for breakfast, one ham / cheese / tomato sandwich for lunch. Dinner frozen low fat microwave dinner
3. Exercise - Walk briskly (about 6km per hour) for 2 hours per day - 11KM. Plus other walking during day at normal pace for about 3-4 KM
4. Weigh myself - Same time every day at 6am when I wake and after urinating

On Fridays I only walk for 5km briskly and 3-4 at normal pace
On Sundays I only walk for 5km briskly
and on Saturdays I do a massive 16 km walk in one hit at brisk pace

When I deviate from my lunch or dinner meals its only to eat a 6 inch subway which is 300 calories only which is the same amount I eat normally anyway and under 6 grams of fat

Meaningless random scale fluctation. If you can't ignore it, stop weighing yourself so frequently.

IMHO you need to be eating more calories, too.

Thanks,

I am able to ignore it and thats what I'm doing keeping at my usual routine however I was just concerned as I have been following a constant loss every day for past 10 days of 600-700 grams and then all of a sudden I am having wierd results so was worried my routine might be flawed or I might have to change something else thats all

And as for the calories thing, I really dont understand how it all works.

I'm following the calories in / calories out rule but that is obviously flawed as according to my pedometer and my calculations I'm only just burning close to what I intake each day so by rights I shouldnt be losing anything but I am??

I'm sorry but I do not understand what you are saying. What is your height/weight/age? I cannot imagine that you are only burning 1200 calories a day.

- Walk briskly (about 6km per hour) for 2 hours per day = 11KM.

I need to convert.. .

11KM = 6.8 miles

that's 3.2 miles per hour...

that's about 17 minute mile -

I'd consider a brisk walk to be under a 15 minute mile - 17 minute mile is fairly moderate...

so I'm not sure you're calorie calculations are correct you are probably overestimating your exercise...

Natural body functions will also affect your daily weight, I think. My doctor told me only to weigh myself once per week, on the same day, at the same time. Apparently body mass can fluctuate by up to 2lbs every day, purely because of the amount of waste and water retained.

I try not to weigh myself daily but i know how tempting it is to want to see instant results!! So long as you are losing weight on a weekly/monthly basis then it cant matter so much if you dont lose every day :):)

My weight can fluctuate by much more than two pounds. I have seen a five pound fluctuation between morning and night after eating / drinking.

Having said that - I certainly believe that I have developed a feel for how my weight is reacting and an understanding of many of the factors involved. I am certainly happier to weigh every day - but I know that it would not suit everyone.

You may be burning 1200 calories during exercise, but your base metabolism also requires calories. If you're young it could be as much as 2500 calories, depending on your size.
