Diet Soda Makes You Fatter!!! (Ghasp!)

How about this....if you consume too much of ANYTHING, it will make you fat. D
Not true....... Oxygen, pure water..... or water contaminated with unfriendly bacteria, food contaminated with salmonella, or eating food that has sat out too long, will almost always cause weight loss!!!!!
How's that for one upping!!!!!! :coolgleamA:

It has been proven, with extensive research, that too much one upping can make you fat. Really...really fat.

I'm not entirely sure where the 'trying to one up' thing comes from, but .... well. At least some people got some entertainment out of it. Gotta count for something, I guess.

Really? it's pretty simple.
It's just the competitive nature of mankind. It comes from evolution!

Here's a question. What's the difference for example diet coke and coke zero? I usually drink coke zero and I'm losing weight just fine.

In the UK, there is actually no difference apart from a small amount of flavouring. In some countries, Coke zero is flavoured with low calorie sweeteners and diet coke is sweetened with aspartame, but in the UK, it appears that both contain exactly the same sweeteners.

From the Coca-Cola website:

Ingredients for diet Coke:
Carbonated water, colour (caramel E150d), sweeteners (aspartame, acesulfame-K), flavourings (including caffeine), phosphoric acid, citric acid. Contains a source of phenylalanine.

Ingredients for Coke Zero
Carbonated water, colour (caramel E150d), phosphoric acid, sweeteners (aspartame, acesulfame-K), flavourings (including caffeine), acidity regulator (E331). Contains a source of phenylalanine.

Disagree.

I lost 120 lbs while drinking diet soda.

Would I have lost more if I had drunk water instead? Possibly. But I certainly didn't get 'fatter' by drinking diet pop.

For me, it's either diet or full sugar. I can't drink the amount of water I should because it makes me throw up. So there isn't much choice for me.

So no...don't agree with the study at all. It might not be the healthiest and it might not be ideal, but to say that diet pop makes you gain weight sounds like complete nonsense to me. Consuming more calories than you burn makes you fat. Diet soda has 0 calories (or very close to 0 anyway), so it's impossible to gain weight from drinking it.

You lost 120 pounds? whaaaaaaaaaaat? thats amazing!! Congrats:)

It's been busted that drinking caffeinated beverages such as sodas, coffes, etc are NOT dehydrating unless perchance you drink a vat of it in a small time frame, anything with water will add to hydration though.

As for diet soda making you fat.. I've lost weight switching to diet and will continue to. I do not drink it regularly but I imagine if I did my result would be no different. If you are accountable for what you eat and stick to your diet and control yourself this has no merit for us. Aren't we here bc we have/want willpower? If drinking a diet soda makes you despo for a big fat cheeseburger then don't drink it =) I have noticed being hungrier if I've consumed a lot of it on a particular day but I feel like it might be from reading all these stupid studies and just programmed in my brain now.. but I refrain from indulging and I am still alive and losing weight.

When it comes down to diet soda I can only go buy what I know. I exercise regularly and use to drink a lot of diet soda. After a while I switched it up with water and the sobe water. I saw that my weight loss was faster with water then with the diet soda.

I think if there were a diet triple cheese burger, and diet fries, those who were looking for less calories would opt for those instead just like with the diet coke. Diet coke doesn't subtract calories from the burger, and fries, but a regular coke would add a lot more calories to the meal over all. While I agree skipping the burger, and fries is best, any time you can opt for a lower calorie alternative is good.

I'm not sure about our American counterparts, but most soda's don't have caffeine anymore. From my knowledge, pop, as we call it, is bad because of the sugar. If it doesn't contain sugar, than it contains chemicals (artificial sweeteners) that are probably more harmful to your body than straight sugar. Of course, we haven't had these chemicals around long enough to really know, but why risk it? Have water :) I found after not drinking pop for a few months that the taste and the carbination aren't as good as I thought it was.

I can't drink plain water. It's not that I don't want to, I simply can't. If it's not flavoured with something, it makes me gag when I try drinking it. I can't get it down. So that's simply not an option.

I am using lemon juice and squashes in my water to make it bearable, but I'm quite happy about the diet soda, simply because it offers me some sort of taste.

As for caffeine - diet pops contain caffeine. Diet Cola and Diet Pepsi etc. all have caffeine in them. Zero and Max don't. It's always good to check the labels carefully.

Hey

I've drunk diet soda whilst I was on my last weight loss program and still lost weight also.

I agree though, all those artificial sweeteners can't be good.

Cheers,

Mark
