Diet pop

I have been sitting on here for hours, perusing boards, swatting up on nutrition, suppliments etc and came across this in a post.........
I used to drink a ton of Gatorade when I worked out. Only to discover it's poison and I'd never work out enough to burn the extra calories I was drinking. That and it raises your blood sugar so much it's impossible for your body to use fat as a fuel source when you have that much sugar in you.

My Q now is........ even if I drink pepsi max is it still bad if I want to lose weight/ achieve a great body? Up till now I thought it was ok as its sugar free but am now thinking maybe im wrong??

xx

You can't really compare gatorade to diet pop.

Gatorade is good for endurance althetes to keep pushing them forward when your body starts using up all the carbs and energy in your body. The general rule of thumb is that you do not need anything but water unless your aerobic workout will last longer than an hour.

Diet pop is made with artificial sweetener so it does not have the any calories. I find it doesn't go through me the same as water and now you have to deal with all the other stuff in regards to artificial sweetener. Some say it will trigger things in your brain that will make you more likely to go for some real sugar. This however will not cause insulin spikes like gatorade does.

My advice is to just stick with water.

Cheers

This assumes, of course, one cannot lose good tissue eating a box of jelly and chocolate covered donuts, when it leaves an appropriate deficit at the end of the day ;)

This is certainly possible, for some. Ones diet, doesn't necessarily have to be absolutely CLEAN, when trying to lose fat tissue, "especially" when fat is high with an average healthy male or female. :) This also doesn't mean the person will not have complications with cravings when the blood glucose spikes, and suddenly drops, thus kicking in hunger pains.

Recommended? Of course, not. Most of you know how I feel about the diet. But, it still is true.

"Sometimes" eating healthy food content, is not necessarily synonymous with losing fat tissue (dependent on the person and---just as important, persons' goal placement). And, to me, this is an important point to understand.

Likewise drinking an occasional "diet" soda pop (with no calories), while being potentially unhealthy, isn't detrimental to one's fat loss quest as seen in this sense, IMO. It is the worst choice to pick if you had to choose between water and it, of course. This goes with really mentioning. Pure water, is always the better option. However, in its most BASIC and RAW meaning, drinking this no-calorie drink, in the face of calorie deficit, isn't that critical, and one still can maintain their goal path.

Most persons (in general, assuming average healthy), have a difficult time just withstanding the parameters in the RAW and BASIC structure of personal calorie construction that would solicit fat loss. Couple this with certain weaknesses (whether emotional or what ever) for food, they can step--out of the required boundary: This (in the sense of RAW and BASIC fat loss) is far more important, than being "overly" concerned with drinking a drink that is--within the parameters and boundaries--of their calorie restriction.

Of course one should attempt to balance healthy food choices (you guys, know how I feel), when dieting to lose tissue, I state this only to make a point.

Best wishes,

Chillen

The 'normal ingestion of food' is relative to what you put in there. And 'excessive burping' is not enough to say something is bad for you. Ie:

Cigarettes are bad for you. (cancer)
Carbonation is bad for you. (burping)

See how they don't quite hold the same power?

Where in the world did you get this from?

Actually I'll back him up. While the burping and ingesting gas thing is bogus, there is a little reaction from carbonation.

CO2 + H2O = H2CO3

One of the same reactions that causes acid rain occurs when you carbonate water. This means you are drinking in a bit of weak acid, which only adds to the problem of the overly acidic western diet. It's by no means a game breaker, as there is only a small amount of carbonic acid, but you aren't doing yourself any favors. Then again, you won't ever see me turn down a gin and tonic ;)

I used to have a big soda habit and gave it up.

I understand the ingredients in soda can cause loss of bone mass/density but I don't have a link to any supporting article so take that as you will. What I do know is I feel a million times better since I stopped guzzling it- less bloated, less prone to upset stomachs, better digestion.

I wouldn't rule out drinking it completely if you enjoy it, but limiting is a good idea.

Bicabonate has a pKa of 6.4 and 10.3 which means that at pH of 6.4 the compound is 50% protonated. Leaving the unprotonated form (conjugate base) as the dominate form. This means that bicarbonate is in fact a weak base, and not a weak acid.

Either way, that wouldn't be a major effector of blood pH. And I'm sure the phosphoric acid would be a greater worry. But the 'excessive burps', is still ridiculous.

you think its ridiculous? you ever suffer from GERD? You think that excessive burping isn't tied into the symptoms of GERD? you think that MAYBE the reason doctors say to stop drinking things like soda and beer maybe has something to do with the Carbonation they both have in them?

Done with this thread...

No, it has to do with the effect it has on bone and tooth density. I know, I've spoken with them. And I, like majority of people who drink soda, do not suffer from GERD. And because excessive burping is tied together with GERD, it must be evil? One of the most commonly used fallacies, guilt by association. Spicy chicken wings can cause stomach pain, but so can stomach cancer. So spicy chicken wings can cause stomach cancer.

But since you made a point to say you're done with this thread, don't worry I don't expect a response.

This thread is as hilarious as it is absurd. GERD, wtf?

I think I had GERD once; it cleared up after the doctor gave me some cream and told me to steer clear of girls from Leeds in future.

Yeah, don't drink beer kids, you could get GERD

GERD's gonna get ya!!!

Haha, lofao, yeah, I imagine the health warnings about beer consumption have nothing to do with the alcohol content but more to do with making you burp
