diet help?

i'm pretty new to diet/excersize.. i'm not really overweight but i could stand to lose some pounds in my stomach and chest. i'm about 6' and i weight 165.

i've cut my diet to: salads, rice, fruit and veggie sandwiches..

3 times a week i run 1.5 - 2 miles, do 50 situps and 20 push ups.

it's minimal but like i said, i'm new. just wanted to get some better advice on what i could be doing differently/better.. like i said, i'm trying to focus on my stomach and chest..

i will eat fish, just nothing land dwelling, however i prefer not to.

i really dig tofu though, so adding beans and tofu does the trick? how does protein help to lose weight?

Replace meat with tofu and beans (that is, if you don't eat chicken or fish either...)
 
protein is vital to maintaining lean muscle on your body. Its also that little kick some get when you are exercising! :)

Lean proteins like chicken and fish also help in keeping you full for longer, with little fat.

reduction in calories is what causes weight loss - your body needs protein.

Keep track of your calories in a site l ike and accurately weigh, measure and record what you're eating so you know where you are in a given day.
