Diet Advice

I'm in creasing my workout, 3-4 days a week cardio, 1-2 days strength training, and 1-2 off days. I'm doing everything at home, I have 12 fitness DVDs for variety.

Based on that, how many calories should I be intaking a day? I've been told 2200 cals, but that seems really high to me. I've been doing weight watchers for about 3 years now. I go through phases where I'm motivated and where I'm not. I'm motivated again, counting points and adding excercise. This is the first time ever, I'm adding in the excercise.

In a typical day, this is what I eat:

Breakfast: Slim fast shake, or Weight Control Oat Meal, or egg beaters and two pancakes, no butter or margirin, sugar free syrup.

Snack: 10 pretzle sticks (the skinny ones)

Lunch: Sandwich, turkey or ham with fat-free cheese on whole wheat bread, or salad with croutons and fat-free dressing, or smaller salad and grilled cheese sandwich two slices of fat-free cheese, margirine. (sometimes this varies a little more but this is the norm)

Snack: 10 pretzle sticks (again the skinny ones), or sugar free pudding, or I skip this all together.

Dinner: 1 cup rice, 1-2 servings of vegetables (green peas, blacked eyed peas, salad, fresh green beans) protein is either, grilled chicken, grilled or broiled shrimp, grilled or broiled scallops, grilled fish, or lean ground beef grilled or cooked in a pan (ground beef less than once a week).

Desert: Low fat ice cream

Vitamin: Calcium with Vit. D, Vit C, multi-Vit. taken daily

Sometimes I eat more than I should, especially when we have our game night on Friday nights. My goal is to have the natural microwave popcorn, the mini bags which are one serving and maybe an extra salad instead of the chips or pretzles that I normally go for.

Any ideas of what I can do better or change, any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Hello . welcome to the forum. Everything u mentioned sounds great. U said Weight Watchers, I joined weight wat. about 8 weeks ago and at the begining I kept up with the points... after i did the points for that day then i went back and figured up the calories from those foods and it came up to average 1800 calories. So I would say the 2200 is high too.
Your example menu sounds great but maybe instead of the rice at dinner have it earlier for lunch (carbs. earlier in the day- will have all day to burn the carbs off instead closer to bed time) (check out the insulin diet)

I would eliminate the pretzels in favor of some fruit, oranges, bananas...Maybe some almonds also. Drink plenty of water too.
