I agree with this, reading the whole thread through clearly shows significant improvement, keep at it

LT,

I have the appetite of a man and my biggest problem with dieting is portion control because I LOVE to eat and feel full. But! If you eat low calorie, high fiber stuff you will feel fuller much faster. I allow myself all the raw or broiled veggies I want, but never use butter, salad dressing or oil (only the spray). If you fill up on the healthy stuff, then it won't seem so intolerable to limit the tasty stuff (it's the same thing to me now.)

As a college student, I know packing lunch/snacks is hard. Try dry cereal projucts, whole wheat bread with natural peanut butter or a small handfull of nuts (unsalted). (toasting the bread will keep it from getting soggy in the car) Try oranges, dried fruit (watch portion size, lots of sugar) and other fruits and veggies so you don't get burnt out. Going out to the car to eat is gives you a walk, saves cash, keeps you on your diet and you don't lose your parking spot.

Finally, check out the web, library, posts like this. If you are informed about what you're eating and how it works in your body, it's easier to visualize and understand, and that gives you control. Remember practicing good health will improve your life and future. Make it a priority and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the encouragement. And thanks for kicking me in the butt too. I realize I went off the reservation yesterday by having that unplanned one slice of pizza and diet cola. But the original offer posed to me was eating the half the pizza and a liter of coke. I didn't have the coke. I had to pack a lunch yesterday hence all the cottage cheese since I had to be at work all day and night yesterday.

Here's the plan for today:

1230 Oatmeal
Celery Sticks
2 oz of Turkey or Chicken
1 apple

1430 Fiber One Cereal
Skim Milk
Banana
Apple
2 oz of Turkey or Chicken

1630 Turkey Sandwhich
Havarti Cheese
1/2 Avocado on Wheat

1800 Sandwhich

2000 Herbal Tea

Actual Consumption

1000 4 oz Turkey Keilbasa

1200 10 oz BBQ Pork

1600 1 Apple

1800 Oatmeal

2000 3 glasses of wine Merlot

0030 10 Mc Nuggets
16 oz Deit Cola

PS I went to the doctor yesterday to get some blood work done. Iwant to know if my thyroid is preventing me from losing weight. The tests results from two weeks ago were inconclusive.

I am on the road a lot. What do you suggest I should eat on the go?
There are tons of things. A lot of people like to prepare their meals ahead of time on weekends. I'm partial to making assloads of tuna sandwiches, chicken breasts, and such at the beginning of the week. Anything you can carry around with you is okay.

As far as what you can pick up:
- meal replacement shakes
- healthy chicken/tuna/turkey (leave out the bacom) sandwiches from any of a handful of sandwich places
- keep a crate of meal bars in your car ;)
- Premade sandwiches
- Bags of your favortie healthful snack
- Anything healthy you can keep in a cooler
- Chicken salads from restaurants you pass
- Almost any restaurant will have healthy things you can order. It's about knowing what to order, not necessarily where to order.

About ten years ago, I lived in DC. Money was tight so in addition to running everyday and walking to and fro from work, I ate pasta sauce. I thought I could replecate my success.
It's that running that's important! Cardio is a big deal for weight loss. I couldn't really pick out your cardio routine, but for weight loss, it's more important (read as: faster) to do cardio than to weight lift.

What should portion sizes look like?
If you're eating 5-7 times a day, portions should be roughly the size of your fist. If you're eating 3 meals a day, the size of 2 fists. Your stomach (in its unstretched state) is roughly the size of an adult fist. Eating in these portions ensures that you fill your stomach (though perhaps not at first if you're an overeater and have to wait for your stomach to return to normal size) and that you're not setting yourself up for overeating the next time around.

I can eat my salads raw if you think it will help. But its not like I am drowning my salads in yummy ranch dressing. I am using the Italian Lucky Wishbone where 2 tblspoons is 35 calories.
No need to leave out the dressing - just make sure you're not going overboard. I also recommend adding chicken, turkey, or tuna to your salads as a protein source.

What is a partially hydrogenarated oil?
Partially hydrogenated oils are "trans fats" in layman terms. Here's a nice site that goes into the dangers:

Yesterday at the supermarket, I bought oatmeal, fiber one, bananas and skim milk to be bfast - the one meal I eat at home.
Great stuff - but remember, you still don't want to overeat. You may want to include a bit more protein in your breakfasts as well (I recommend buying a carton of egg whites - taste just like eggs, but without the cholesterol).

So, aside from the swing dancing, what kinds of intense cardio are you doing?

P.S., I just noticed that I didn't bother to read page 2 and 3, so excuse me if the info is a little redundant :)

I know. I know, my drinking is out of control. Why make all this progress speeding my metabolism up by eating right and often only to slow it down with massive quantities of alcohol.

Next weekend, I am doing an all dance weekend. I will dance swing and tango on night and salsa or swing the next night. I might stay for an additional night swinging on Sunday. So I will be out of the bars that weekend.

On an up note, I notice when I am working out. I am making better gains because the fuel I am getting is cleaner. I run faster and lift more longer.

you're doing good most of the time but try and dump that junk food - pizza, fast food sandwiches, etc. they will set you back bigtime with their heavy fat, calories, and carbs. look at it this way, you can eat healthily and exercise one day, and them blow the whole thing by eating something like "meat lovers pizza" that evening. you dont want to take a step backward every time you've made a step forward. :)

and yeah cutting back on the drinking would help a lot, too.

alcohol is the 2nd most calorie dense food in existence you really have to give it up if you want to loose weight.

it dehydrates you and stops you from burning fat

First Of All Your Eating Lots Of Junk Food And Too Much Of The Good Foods. Just Because A Food Is Good For You It Don't Mean Your Going to O.D. With It. 3 Bannanas Is way too much. It Has Too Much Sugar believe It Or Not. Have About 4-6 Small Meals A Day. Replace One Or Two Of Those Meals With A Protein Shake.
