I have just managed to find a way to get my heart rate right up higher then I have ever done before. My heart rate monitor tells me its at somewhere between 93 to 98% (around 175 to 185bpm, I am 28 and female.) for part of my workout, I cant sustain it for very long so have encorporated it into a sort of interval training where I do 1 min on 1 min off, throughout that my heart rate doesn't go below 74% (which is about 145bpm). I do this in 20 min bouts and take about 1.5 to 2 hours a session with about 3 or 4 of these included and then stretch and cool down afterwards.
I have though been noticing its much harder to fall asleep, already I have insomnia and take about an hour to settle, but since doing this its been about 3 or 4 hours- sometimes I only manage 1 hours sleep a night and its a nightmare trying to sleep and not being able to!
I normally exercise anywhere from 1pm to 7pm in the day (it varies) and don't go to bed till about 4am (insomnia) then need to get up about 9 or 10am but with only an hour or two sleep its so hard!
And added to this, last night I had chest pain- I felt as if I had just run a marathon: that burning sensation in my chest, slight breathlessness, I was not tierd, more over I felt as if I would have the energy to get up and do things had I not felt so emotionally tierd and had achey legs from cross trainer use.
Has anyone had any similar symptoms? I went to my GP who suggested an ECG which wont happen till next week when they and I am free to do this, she did a quick blood pressure test, said it all seemed normal but then it wasn't the 4am time when this was happening. Suggested a blood test for thyroid which I have not yet had, my last blood test in October was all fine so I can't see why it should have gone wrong all of a sudden.
I'm a little concerned as I'd like to carry on with what I was doing, it meant I could chop off about 20 mins of my workout as I had done everything in quick time and felt like I had really worked out, really empowering! But I don;t want to risk anything, I am 28, I am not sure if I should be having chest pains late at night/in the early hours of the morning. I always thought that as I worked out so much (5-6 days a week, 9-12 hours a week). I thought that if anything were to go wrong, my heart would be the last thing as I exercise it so much. But I am not so sure anymore- could I be causing damage or is this more likely to be a panic attack? has anyone else had similar symptoms from hard cardio exercise?
