Diary of a man and his weight loss.

I guess it's time to update this. As you can see from my signature I did reach my goal weight, I actually went a bit lower unintentionally...I'm really feeling a bit to skinny so hopefully I'll be able to gain some more muscle as time passes. I'm finding one big problem though. I became so use to my lowered calorie intake that when I try to eat at maintenance I feel overly bloated and full all day. Anyone experienced this after weight loss?

I'm excited for Christmas to come. I know my parents are buying me some gift cards for some clothes stores, I really need new clothes as mine are way to big lol. I'm curious to see now what fits me.

The Christmas break couldn't of come soon enough, it's nice to have 3 weeks where I don't need to use my brain :biggrinjester:. I'm back at my parents for the break which is all I really want for Christmas, but I'm looking forward to the Christmas dinner because damn it's always so delicious :D.

Okay so now that I'm at a good weight I'm going to try and go for those six pack abs so many people desire. From searching around here I understand that I must lower my body fat to reveal the abs. I'm just hesitating here because I'm already 140 lbs, and I'm wondering how much more fat I'm going to have to lose to show the abs more. I think I'm going to be a stick before I get the six pack lol.

Can someone confirm that I'm going about the six pack correctly?

Hi there!

You sure are good at dieting, DAMN :eek2: 1300 cal? Jeez

6 pack abs.....I can't really help you there but I must say, YOGA ;) really transformed my abs to be almost six-packy in a girly way. Hmm, upon reading that that does NOT sound appealing to a young man. ASK STEVE!

Hehe thanks. I'm open to a lot of things, even yoga but my friends might bust my balls over that one lol. I'm really hoping Steve will find his way into my thread. I was going to PM him but I don't want to bug him, I'm sure he gets enough questions already.

He's really nice but I guess sometimes he gets short with people, I dunno. He'll probably tell you that you have to bulk up muscle, but that you can't lose fat at the same time, and you have to lose fat on your abs to be able to SEE your abs.....which seems impossible, HAHAHA! Which is why I say it's unattainable! But it is, I really think that a person is either genetically blessed or s/he has to be ABSOLUTELY DILIGENT about his/her nutrition.

I of course want to bulk up some muscle but I'm thinking a six pack would be easier to achieve now since bulking would require a calorie surplus and not only would I be gaining muscle but some fat as well. Seems the best way to do it is through dieting to lower my body fat % even more. It does seem unattainable but that's what I thought about losing weight, and look where I am now :D. I must believe in myself, I WILL achieve a six pack :biggrinjester:. Maybe I get the six pack abs now then bulk up later? I'm not sure though if that's correct...:banghead:.

Find a really hot chick who is super excited about Yoga, and let her drag you to a class. Then your friends can't really tease you :)

Might be harder then getting the six pack LOL.

I know, it confuses me too. I think Steve is off for the present.....just go bug him!

Yeah I guess it won't hurt. I'll send him a link to the thread so if he decides to answer it can possibly help others with the same question.

Oh? There are no hot chicks who love Yoga where you live?

I posed the question, none too delicately, in his diary--he knows me pretty well, he's used to me :)

Hi.

Got your PM and really no problem at all.

I read through this thread and here's my thoughts.

1. Are you happy with the way you look right now? Personally I can't imagine weighing 140 standing nearly 6' tall, but my preferences are not yours so I don't know. Is the really skinny-guy-look the one you're going for?

2. You dieted using far too low a caloric intake which certainly led to muscle loss.

3. You admittedly didn't exercise much which further solidified muscle loss.

4. Losing weight is easy. Losing weight and getting lean is hard, relatively, and when you don't do it right, more often than not, you end up a lighter, still soft version of your former self.

Harsh reality.

Where do you go from here?

Well if I were in your shoes I'd be damned if I lost more weight. You already are skin and bones if you ask me (please don't take that the wrong way). Losing more from where you are now would probably make you look sickly. Would it expose your abs? Eventually most likely but you'd look like you're a walking skeleton right out of a concentration camp.

Even then there's a chance you won't see your abs.

See the attached photo. That's from a often referenced study known as the Minnesota Starvation Experiment where men where starved in a controlled setting to mimc nazi camps. They were not fed adequate calories, adequate protein and they certainly didn't lift weights.

Is that the result you're after?

Personally I would scratch the abs and bulk back up to a respectable weight and do things right. It's winter time now anyhow (depending on where you live of course) which is the best time to bulk.

Once you reset some things, start fresh with more muscle mass and focus on losing fat while maintaining muscle.

That will be your best bet of looking lean and healthy.

Even then you might not see your abs nicely. It's very genetic too. But I wouldn't bank on that until you actually give it a try using proper principles.

Probably not what you wanted to hear but you asked for my opinion and now you have it, lol.

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question.

Yeah I really do feel that I'm too skinny. My ideal would involve having loads more muscle. You're absolutely right about the muscle loss, there's no denying it. I probably should of maintained my muscle better but I really thought I didn't need too, I guess we learn from our mistakes.

I was thinking the same about losing more weight, that's why I was hoping someone was going to give me feedback on what I was about to do, thankfully you did. That skeleton look is definitely not what I'm after lol.

Here it's winter alright, -30 Celsius weather outside lol. Bulking up would require a calorie surplus of healthy foods and weight lifting? I'm already having trouble eating max 1500 calories a day, I feel full all day. Might be hard to get over 2000 calories but I'm sure I'd get use to it.

Any answer was the answer I was looking for :grouphug:.
