Ok, first post in new diary.

What is your current height and weight?
About 13 stone, 5'10"
If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
Probably about 10 and a half stone
At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
I'm not going to measure it in weight. I am 42 " on the waist. Can't believe that! Apparently over 35" is a serious risk to health, and under 32" is best for you. So I want to be 32" (a straight 10" loss). But that seems to equate to about a 4 stone loss, and I would be too skinny at 9 stone. So, I don't know!
Why do you want to lose weight?
I want some confident back. And I want to feel attractive. And I want to be fitter.
Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
Nope!
What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
Hmmm... take aways and chocolate! Down moments when I feel like I 'need' something. Stress, bordom and lack of motivation
Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Read the above! And having a bit of a party time with drink and pizzas while not watching the waistline. And then when all that buzz goes I felt a bit depressed and ate too much.
What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
I need to think more positively. And get more exercise. Taking little walks and lunch time, and getting some sunshine these dark winter months so I don't lean on the chocolate.
Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
Calorie counting has worked. And long walks with the gym at the end.
Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
Just laziness and taking my eye off the ball!
What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
I've never done an Atkins or a Soup diet - and I coudn't I like food! And I want to enjoy it in a positive way
Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
Yes I would. Might do that for a while in this diary. Or at least broadcast the results
Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
Yep - cook everything. Love roast veg. Prob grate cheese over too many things
How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
I don't think I go out often, but I might go more than I think! Normally when I am bored or depressed. Normally go to a pub or restaurant. Sometimes have a breakfast in a cafe
What are your three favorite foods?
cheese chocolate chips
What are your three favorite restaurants?
The Olde Mustard Pot, Sheiks, Pizza Hut
What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Ask myself 'am I hungry?'. Eat smaller portions. Stop eating rubbish in the car and rushing lunches.
If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
Would like a flatter belly. And a little bit firmer all over!
Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Yes
Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
Sometimes lots of chocolate. Used to get one chocolate bar for a treat. Then I get one treat to eat after the treat....
Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
If I eat in my car it is invisible! Or when there is no-one in the office with me.
Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Sad and depressed yes, not nervous.
Do you eat as a reward?
Yeah, Friday night, just for making it through the week!
Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Yeah, I like a 'treat' while watchin TV
What do you normally eat for a meal?
I am veggie, but mostly (veggie) meat and 2 veg-type meals. Love brown rice, but eat more pasta because it is (15 minutes) quicker!
What type of snacks do you eat?
Cheese and biscuits, crisps, chocolate, fruit, cereal bars, biscuits, cake,
In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Almost nothing! Used to walk around a lot at work. Now I've changed my job I don't do much
Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
Sometimes go swimming - there is a pool and gym at the top of my road!
What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
Walking
What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
Daily - three meals, no snacks, smile more
Weekly - another week, enjoy the weekend
Monthly - see some weight off, feel healthy
Yearly - say that 2008 was the year I turned it round before I turned 30!
Do you have rewards for certain goals?
No! Not really! The ticker tape thing is exciting though!

So, I am 4 days in, and it is going pretty well. My challenges are:
1) smaller portions (listen to when I am hungry and full)
2) no snacking (especially in the car)
3) a bit more exercise (nowt crazy to start with)

And progress so far is:
1) definitly doing smaller portions. Stopped myself a couple of times in the evening from having another something by asking if I AM hungry. Great!
2) I've not snacked at ALL at work, and I've only eaten 3 fruit pastilles in my car. Pretty good.
3) I have been at work and tired in the evenings, so not done loads. I have been for a walk at lunch time twice and am parking at the far end of the car park.

It would be good to do something a bit more serious exercise wise at the weekend - I'd like to get that buzz you get to steer me through the weekend. Oten weekends are the hardest - less routine and loads of food in the cupboards.

I always get headaches when I first go on a diet. Someone said to me once that it the sugars and bad things leaving your system (don't know if this is true!). I've had those headaches and not relented by eating a chocolate bar. Feel good about that.

Not sure that my waist measurement technique is going to be so good. I've apparently lost 2" already - this is probably more down to being menstral or having ate/drunk recently. I am going to have to read up about this a bit. Might find some info on here.

It's been a looong time (already!)

Ok, I was good for a week - and then slipped a bit, and now it is a month later! However, I am feeling far more motivated to do good things (something to do with longer days I think). My waist line has fluctuated (hey, I'm a woman!) but I have been 41" now for a while - so I think I can safely say that I have lost an inch!

And it is really that exciting news - and the prospect of posting an updated ticker on this forum that has made me come back! Silly things huh?

So - what has been working? I've been doing a lot of gardening. And I've been taking walks in my lunch hour. And I've not been dead strict with food, but maybe taken less nibbles (the bags of crips in my desk drawer at work have gone!). I think it is mostly the gardening that has been good for me - fresh air, hard work and the propect of homegrown veg in a few months!

I am going to focus more on the food side this week - and see where it leads me...

Hi CurlyL! Good luck with that tighter focus on your food. It does pay off. :) The idea that your longer days are giving you a new boost is a nice one!

what works for you - is fine... :) everyone's got a different incentive... :D

:seeya:Hi there!

So pleased you are finding inspiration to lose the weight, and see the need to get healthy. Measurements are a great way to go. You mentioned that calorie counting worked for you previously - are you going to do that again?

Glad you are enjoying your tickers! I love updating mine!!!

Best wishes on your journey,
ABBA

Thanks

Thanks for the encouragement guys - feels good to know that people are rooting for me.

Had a good day today - stuck to the lunch, no snack until tonight, when I had an orange and a kiwi (oh, how naughty!!) Fruit and veg would be calorie free in my world.

Which reminds me - in my first post I said that cheese, chocolate and chips were my 3 favourite foods. Well, they can be, but I also love tomatos, oranges and parsnips in equal amount. Only that the naughty stuff springs to mind first! A lot of this is about reprogramming the brain. Slow work with my brain! But the brighter days, a little bit of sunshine and taking a bit of exercise seems to reinforce the message.

You are right about the need to reprogramme your brain! Yes, re-directing your impulses by acting on those better ideas will have a big impact and over time will result in new tendencies replacing the old ones.

Some veges are so close to calorie free that they're as good as I reckon!! :D
