Desperatly want to lose weight!!!

Hi, ive just joined the forum and im hoping i can get some help and motivation here. Ive gained a good bit of weight over the past few years and have always been too lazy after work to exercise. Ive recently been let go from work because of this great recession Ireland is currently in so now i have alot of free time and im going to make good use of it. Im 6ft and around 200lbs and really want to lose that weight. All i know to do though is to go for a run then maybe some weights when i get home. Any advice on how long the run should be? Aswell as the weights? Or should i be doing other things? Any advice would be a great help. Thanks
 
thanks for the reply and the information. the only equipment i have is a sit up bench and dumbells with 1 and a half and 2 an a half kilo weights on them. im willing to exercise for 1-2 hours monday-friday and saturday or sunday. my diet is now is a bowl of cereal in the morning, maybe a sandwich at lunch and then dinner at around 7 in the evening. im gonna try eat alot of fruit during the day as well. i drink alot of water already
