Desperately need help- Liquid diet

Hi,

I have started the Cambridge Diet Today! I have 60lbs to lose and can't cope with another diet failure. I can't believe I have let myself go this far. I have 3 kids and since having them I can't seem to lose the weight. I desperately need something to keep me motivated. When I get tired or stressed I turn to food, which seems to be all the time at the moment.

I would love to get a committed diet and excercise buddy to share the ups and downs with.

Can anyone help

Thanks:)

What is the Cambridge Diet?

From what I understand it is an all liquid diet with heavy vitamins.

Liquid diets=no good. Your body was meant to breakdown food. We certainly wish you the best of luck and are glad you joined the forum but I would re-think an all liquid diet especially if 60 pounds is your goal loss.

Don't focus on the weight loss. People who do find think that the only real way to loose it is to cut down on calories and food intake. This is wrong. Your body will go into starvation (survival) mode and break down muscle mass while storing fat. Remember, calories is to the body like gasoline is to a car.

Focus on loosing inches, not weight (muscle weighs more than fat, which is mostly water). The scale measures everything in your body....fat, muscle water, bones, organs, etc. You should exercise and eat a balanced diet, but work out more than your caloric intake. By exercising, your body will increase muscle which needs more fuel and therefore burn body fat and increase your base metabolism.

It will take some time, don't rush it. It took time to build the fat, it will take time to break it down.

Agreed. A liquid diet will be temporary, unsatisfying, unhealthy and likely result in binging. Consider starting out with moderate exercise and focus on nutrition. It will result in a more permanent and satisfying way to maintain your health.

I'd never heard of the Cambridge diet prior to this but I doo know that Cambridge university have put out some prettygood research before, so to stay informed about what 's out there and how people are putting there health plans together, I googled and I found this : The Cambridge Diet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Cambridge Diet
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cambridge Diet is a low-calorie weight loss plan developed in 1970 by Dr. Alan Howard at Cambridge University, England[1]. It was first used exclusively in weight loss clinics, and then launched as a commercial product in the United States in 1980, with distribution in the UK beginning in 1984.[2] The Cambridge diet became very popular in the United States in the 1980s, and the Cambridge company says it has helped over 15 million people lose weight.

The diet formula is intended to harness "the excellent weight loss properties of starvation", while providing enough protein to protect lean tissue, the right level of carbohydrate to promote a mild ketosis (the body's fasting mode, which burns body fat) and eliminate a sense of hunger, and the right levels of vitamins, minerals, trace elements and essential fatty acids to maintain good health.[2] The meals are intended to combine all necessary food groups to satisfy a body’s nutritional needs, in order to allow a person to stop craving foods and overeating.

The company recommends eating only three of their pre-packaged meals a day (a total of 500 calories or less), for the fastest weight loss, or combining their meals with some regular food for more gradual weight loss. The food consists of nutrition bars, shakes, soups, or formulas in various flavors. Cambridge also recommends at least eight glasses of water a day.

The diet discourages alcohol, chewing gum, and high-energy exercises while on this diet."

As it turns out, they also include nutrional bars and soups and give you heaps of protein and enough carbs to run you into a quick ketogensis . i can't really see the produce at first glimpse but godknows.

It's funny how things make sense when you look closer. I haven't read it all so I wouldn't advise either way atm myself, but really. I don't haate heavy keto boosts for a quick weight loss before a good solid exercise regime!! :/. It iis light on calories but they discourage heavy exercise while on the plan aswell. I don't expect that they avocate you stay on it too long neither. .. although ?I haven't really read it all . I might actually do that sometime. l-).

cheers.

The fact that it discourages a certain way of exercising, and that it ties you to their food products would be enough to put me off. I'll stick to whole natural foods thanks. :)

dinahdoll, scrap that liquid diet, it is no good. Read around here and find a good diet for yourself, eating 6 small meals a day and eating right will help you and change your life.

Exercise, either it be strength or cardio, find something you like to do and do it.

Also, see a Doctor, if you truly have a weight problem, it could be your thyroid, after children your body makeup can change, see a Dr. and make sure you are in good health as to your thyroid.

ditch the liquid diet, eat better, exercise and chat on the board for motivation!

Welcome, and best of luck
