hi everyone. Im new and really hope I can get help. Im a 44yr old mum of an autistic boy who is 8yrs old. Im 87 kg and have been for a long time. Ive tried so many times to lose weight to no avail. I have diabetes and nerve damage in my legs and feet[due to diabetes]. I only walk a very short distance before I cant go any further. Im so very tired. I dont want to die, my boy needs me. There are so many things i need to do to fix fhings, I just dont know where to start. Can someone give me a starting point. thanks

hello and welcome
i'm no expert so i think the best thing for you to do is to talk to your doctor first, mainly because your diet as well as exercise has to be under doctors' supervision. perhaps he/she can also point you to a nutritionist that can help you workout a menu which you will be able to follow weekly.

as for exercise any movement helps. can you go swimming? that way your legs won't be over stressed.
lastly i know you can do this and feel and be better. you made a first step :)

Welcome.

I agree -- I think you need to head over to your doctor's office because of your diabetes complications.

It also sounds like you need to get your diet and medication under control?

Make a list of the things you need to do. Start crossing off the ones you complete. Do them in order. If you can't do something, put it to the bottom of the list and go to the next item.

The only way to start is with one step at time.

And the first thing on that list needs to be getting yourself to your doctor!

Thank you. I really like the idea of making a list and tackling one thing at a time. I do tend to get very overwhelmed with things so I think this will really help, especially if I can move onto the next item if I get stuck. Thanks again.

Welcome and good luck. I'm sure your doctor can give you great advice on what steps you should take. On the bright side Desparation is an exelent motivater :waving:

I'm a Type 1 Diabetic and have been for about 25 years, but I don't have neuropathy so I have no idea what you should and shouldn't be doing.

Therefore, I can't really suggest anything other than talking to your doctor about what he recommends you do.

hey.. u may have trouble walking a long distance, but u sound like a very strong
person... i mean instead of giving up to the stress that u already have, you are actually taking positive steps towards making things better for u.. that shows a great spirit :) :)

welcome to the forum.. and i concur with the others, talking to ur doctor should probably be the first step :)

Hey, I really feel what you are saying. My son has Cerebral Palsy and I feel like while my daughter would be okay, my son really needs me to be here and healthy for him because I do way more than most people would be willing for him!

I'm currently reading a lot about The South Beach Diet and The Zone Diet, they both are lean protein, veggies, low-fat diary and healhty fats. It may be helpful to try and follow a plan like these because they will give you some structure on days when you're really stressed out. I do workout but I'm trying to keep focused to my diet since either way, I have to eat while I could go without working out. No sugar and healthy carbs have really helped me emotionally deal with the stresses of having a special needs boy!

Good luck and don't give up!

i'm new too and i can definately understand needing to be there for your kids. i'm terrified of leaving my son without a parent. Your doctor would be a good place to start. first steps don't have to be huge....sometimes baby steps are the only ones you can make. i gave up the sodas and candy for more fruits and veggies, and i cut my chicken breasts in half and share them with my son. it makes a more manageable portion for the both of us because everything these days is so supersized. hang in there and be honest with your doctor.

My Dad has COPD and Diabetes and has the same symptoms,
See your doctor, there is medication that can help, also if you have circulation issues in the legs there are things that can be done there also.
