Desperate to lose weight! :)

I'm a stocky guy at 5'11. My chest is around 52 inches and my biceps are a hard 17 inches, neck 19 inches. My legs are like tree trunks, not one sign of fat on them. My gut and chest is where all my weight is. I've got the worst beer gut but i don't drink beer. I used to weight 275 but started hitting the weights and now I weigh 280.

I'd really love to get down to my highschool weight of 175 where I was nice and fit. These days i eat sensibly, cutting out most fasts foods and soda's. I only drink rice milk, and I have a juicer I use everyday to juice apples, spinach, cucumbers, lettuce and a lemon for a morning pick me up. I treadmill for 30 days a few times a week. Cardio is just not my thing.

no matter what I do I can never lose weight.

Any tips to lose some weight would be awesome. I even just ordered the Micheal Thurmond 6 week diet plan. I'm so desperate to lose this weight.

I can tell you right now what you are doing wrong. You have no idea how much energy you are consuming. Do you? Weight loss, no matter what anyone tells you, is dictated by energy in versus energy out. If more goes in than out, weight gain will ensue. If an equal amount of energy goes in and goes out, you will maintain your current weight. If you less goes in than goes out, you will lose weight. Thermodynamics at its finest. Calories are energy.

The fact that you started lifting weights and actually gained 5 lbs, assuming it was muscle, is a good indication that you are in a caloric surplus, beginner or not.

Most of us have found that counting calories, while a pain, is the best way. Track everything, and see how much you're actually eating. It's surprising how fast it can add up.

Also, you need a support system. You've found your way here, so if you want to stick around and get all you can out of this forum, start up a diary and stick with it! Many of us will pop in and check on you, and offer you the encouragment you need.
If you have anyone at home to support you, workout with you, etc. that's excellent!

Welcome here!

I have the weight watchers plan too. Anyone go by that? I've got the diary so i'll start with that to track. I'll start a diary too. thanks for the support!

Oh, and while I'm flooding your introduction, I *meant* to say welcome to the WLF.

You might consider checking out or they are both resources for keeping track of calories, nutrition and fitness.

I second the sparkpeople.

My husband is 5 11 and started at 279lbs. He lost 9lbs so far (two weeks). He uses sparkpeople and runs 2 miles (15 each) about 4 times a week.

I am using sparkpeople myself. Free and very easy to use.

I tried spark people for a few days and didn't lose anything.

I finally got my Mike Thurmond six week body makeover and lost 6 pounds on the first 2 days. I'm very excited! First time i've ever been able to lose weight! I'll keep you guys updated.
