Desperate 18 year old girl

Hi! My names Ella and I'm eighteen years old and 5'5". I'm a British size 10 (American size...6?) in jeans and currently weigh about ten stone (roughly 142lbs). I'm completely miserable with my body. It's mainly my tummy that I want to firm up but it just doesn't seem to be changing.
I've been on my diet now (1100 calories) for five weeks and have lost roughly eleven pounds but the only place it shows is on my face. Exercise wise I walk two miles everyday, do 20 minutes on the trampoline and half kill myself doing an hour long exercise DVD that is full of cardio, squats and lunges. Am I doing enough exercise? And what would be the most beneficial exercise to get the fat off my tummy? I don't mean sit-ups and crunches (cos I do easily one hundred a day) it's the cardio bit that I'm struggling with.

My parents are really unsupportive as they say that I've already changed a lot but when I look at myself I can see I haven't changed. If anything I look bigger! It frustrates me that they keep lying about me not being fat when I know I'm seriously overweight. It's starting to drive me a bit mad and I'm really depressed about it.

ANYWAY, does anyone know how I can lose a substantial amount of weight in the next month, particularly from my tummy? I'd be so grateful for any advice.

I know this probably isn't what you want to hear, but you're not 'seriously overweight'... according to what you said, your BMI is within normal range. But if you want to lose weight, this site can be very helpful.

hey there! i'm also 18 so i know how you feel, especially at this age there is a lot of pressure about what you should look like. i don't think 142 is very big at all though! and you should be really happy about losing 11 lbs, that's a good amount of weight! even if you don't notice it, i'm sure other people do! people tend to have distorted body images about themselves...but congrats on the weight loss!!

i got this fortune in a fortune cookie the other day that said:

"appearance can be decieving, endurance makes gold."

hope it helps :)

Relax

Dude, seriously, losing 11 pounds in five weeks is awesome. It takes time to get to the weight level you want to be at. Just keep doing what you're doing for another few months and you'll see the weight-loss show up where you want it to. Don't stress about it in the meantime as that will just make it harder for you to reach your goals.

You are doing great, give yourself a pat on the back and relax.

1100 calories is too low. It'll slow down your metabolism. Strive for 1400-1500. With the exercise that you do, your body needs that extra fuel.

Sorry to say, you cannot spot reduce. I wish you could. I am envious that you're losing in the face first. I lose there last. So even though the rest of me isn't so bad, I hate how my face looks so fat still. :ack2:

The weight will go from your stomach, but it may be the last place. It sounds like you're doing well with resistance exercises, so that's good. It'll help. It just won't happen over night. Are you taking measurements?

Thanks for being so nice. I know I sounded a bit dramatic but everyone feels a bit like that sometimes, right?
I've upped my calories to 1300 and upped my exercise routine too. As a result I've already got loads more energy and have lost another four pounds! So i've now lost my first stone (or 14lbs if you prefer.) and I'm feeling much happier.

Thanks again for being really nice, I felt a bit of a geek ranting on this site but now I see everyones pretty cool so I'm glad I did. I really appreciate all the advice.

Just out of interest, what are the rules with alcohol and weightloss? I've completely cut it out of my diet but at the end of June, everyones back from University and it's like party after party all summer. Is it ok to substitute food calories for liquid ones? Just interested in what everyone else does. It's pretty hard being a teenager and never drinking haha.

Thanks again!!
