Way to go!!!
I am very proud of you Derrick!!!
You didn't quit and to top it all off you got a new personal best!!!!
AWESOME

Thanks Dawn! This is definitely the best message board I have ever found. So many genuinely good people and very few who aren't. A rare find anywhere, especially on the internet.

Just a journal entry here to log what has happend since the triathlon on May 3rd.

On May 7th I arrived in Florida with my wife and daughter for a one week vacation. The resort had a workout room and there was also a Gold's Gym down the street. I had my local Gold's Gym fax a travel pass just in case I decided to go there instead. So here is what I did on vacation:

May 9th: Combination of jogging and walking for 35 minutes on a treadmill at the resort.

May 11th: Upper body workout at Gold's Gym.

May 13th: Biked 7.5 miles in 25 minutes and jogged 1.55 miles at 7 mph followed by a 5 minute cooldown at the resort.

We got back home on Friday, May 15th.

May 16th: Lower body workout followed by 10 minutes on the eliptical and 10 minutes of intense jogging on the treadmill with a high point of 8.0 mph at a 4 degree incline for 1 minute and 30 seconds. Finished by walking for a 3 minute cooldown.

Nothing since then but I am going tomorrow morning.

Not too much going on lately. Got a cold or virus again but I am hoping it won't last long because my entire family has had it and it only stuck around for about 5 to 7 days in their case. I will wait until I feel better before working out again. I did finally have my last personal training session with my PT last Wednesday morning. I am STILL sore from it. I also swam last week on Tuesday I think. I haven't done anything since Wednesday. I think I either took too much time off after the triathlon or I was feeling the effects of the oncoming cold/virus. Swimming was very tiring and it usually isn't for me.

Now I am trying to decide if I want to sign up for more PT sessions or go find a kickboxing gym to train at. Either way I am still going to keep with the triathlon workouts.

I also updated my ticker. I lowered my goal weight to 181. I eventually want to be no lower than 181 and no higher than 185. That is my main goal this year. To achieve that weight range. At that range I should definitely be below 10% body fat, which has been a sort of mission for me to accomplish.

Hey Derrick! Just wanted to stop in and say thanks for your kinds words! Congrats on your triathalon and I'm still plugging along with my weight loss... hopefully by the end of June I'll have some final pics!

congrats on the Triathalon!!! That is really exciting! Just thought id stop by and say hello....

ill drop by more often now, and way to go with your workouts. from what i can see you have a nice solid plan in place!!

and is that your gf in your profile pic? She is really cute!!!! :)

Bansheebabe,
Sounds like things are going good for you. :) That makes me feel a little better. I've kept you in my prayers. Keep on plugging away, you are doing great!

Melissa, that is my wife. Our 7th wedding anniversary (14th as a couple) is coming up in about a week. Thank you for the complement. I think she is stunning and she just keeps getting prettier every year. She also has some impressive before and afters but she was never overweight. She's more of a great example of how a woman can get lean and toned from consistent weight lifting, cardio and just eating better.

I lost a lot of weight over the last year but she lost very slowly, about 1 lb per month over 18 months. It's kind of cool though because every month I'm like, "jee did you get hotter again?!?" :smilielol5:

We can't really remember what her highest weight ever was. She has always been at a healthy or ideal weight. I think she was in the 140's before she got pregnant and she may have been upper 140's for a year or two in college but she usually fluctuated between low 130's and low 140's. Of course she gained weight from the pregnancy but I don't think she really counts that because she lost nearly all of her pregnancy weight the first 10 days after giving birth. Don't ask me to explain how that is possible. It was really weird. You couldn't even tell she had just been pregnant. I guess she was one of the lucky women. After our daughter was born a little over 3 years ago, she has slowly lost weight. Then about 12 months ago we both got serious about working out and she started getting toned. She is now down to 121 lbs and she is 5' 6" tall. She is not trying to lose weight any more though because we would like to have another child.

Here are some photos I took of her from vacation a month ago. They are resized but completely unedited. I always tell her she could be a model. Of course I am strongly biased. :D

You may have to click on some of the photos to make them larger and get rid of some of the resizing distortion.

I can't sleep but I need to. I have not exercised in over a week because of this damn virus I have, or whatever it is. It started in my throat and now it is in my lungs too. I can't do crap, exercise wise, when I have any sort of respiratory infection.

I have definitely gained a little bit of fat and I am consistently weighing about 198 in the mornings. I am not worried because I am about to start kickboxing on Monday. I am hoping I will feel better by then. I am also hoping the guys who train there are not thugs. I am optimistic though. I know 2 guys who used to train there and they were both good guys.

I told my wife if she is pregnant I will go the distance with her and not drink any alchol either. It will make it easier on her, not that she drinks much anyway, but it will help me lose weight too. I know that is one of my weaknesses right now. I have just been drinking too often. I don't go to bars. I either drink at home or at the farm when I am out there. In the evenings of course. And not until I am drunk, just a little buzzed. Regardless, cutting back is something that could make a big difference in my quest for 10% body fat. Completely stopping for almost 9 months could make a huge difference.

Well I got home last night after a full week at the farms. It was great to see my wife and I can't wait to see my daughter when she wakes up this morning. As I was unloading the 4 wheeler at the central MO farm last night I remembered to go pick some wildflowers for my daughter. I also found some neat rocks when driving the fields on Thursday. I like to bring things back for her. She is always asking about the farm and tractors. She finally got to ride and drive the tractor on memorial weekend. It was cute for sure.

I went to bed at 1am this morning and woke up at 5am. My lower back and legs are hurting me from the 4 wheeler and tractor. I had to plant beans earlier in the week at the central farm. Then on Thursday and Friday I went up to the northern farm and drove around on the 4 wheeler looking at the beans that the farmer planted up there. I get to play farmer a little bit each year in central MO because there isn't a whole lot of farm ground to work with. Mostly just food plots for the wildlife. Up north is a different story though. A lot more acres up there.

I am trying to cheer myself up but the truth is I have been really down lately. I am reminded of one of my favorite quotes, "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing." It is so true today in this world. The problem is we can't even agree on what is evil anymore. Now that is really scary to me. I feel completely powerless. I was so upset last night I actually had tears.

I plan on exercising with my wife this morning so I am really hoping that is just what my body and mind needs.

Exercising certainly made me feel better today. My wife and I were both pretty exhausted even though we didn't do all that much. I did the treadmill and eliptical for 35 minutes combined. I had 22 minutes in my heart rate zone of 140 to 185. I also did a lot of stretching and practiced a few kicks and punches on the bag (not very crowded today, I don't like doing that when it is crowded because I don't want to be the meat head beating on the bag in front of everyone.) Had lunch right after and then we took our daughter to the park to play on the jungle gym. Then I had a nap.

Now my wife and I are going out with a couple friends. I've been eating good today so I will try to keep that going tonight. Not a lot of alchol either.

I did weigh in at only 196.5 this morning so that made me feel better too. That is only 2.5 lbs from my lowest of 194 just about 2 months ago.

I weighed in this morning at 200.0 which sucks but it didn't surprise me considering I ate about 3 lbs of Chinese food last night. Well I am exaggerating but I did have too much. The crazy thing is back when I was fat I used to eat twice as much as what I ate last night. I had not ate Chinese food in a long time so I got a little carried away. Still, I know better. I should be back down to 197 in a day or two...hopefully.

I had my free kickboxing class tonight. It was one hour long and not all that hard. It was fun though and I really do enjoy kicking and punching the bag and pads. It is a good workout too but not quite as hard as what I did with my personal trainer who left a few months ago.

I have not decided if I am going to sign up. I need to let them know by tomorrow. Money is really tight right now so my wife does not want me to do it. I guess I will pray about it tonight and sleep on it.

kickboxing sounds sweeeet! :)

yeah Chinese food sounds yummmmy! Has alot of sodium though i believe so your right... you will be back down to your previous weight in no time....

this just happened to me when i had a bit too much pizza... and 2 days later i was back in action hehe

Well I had a great workout again yesterday. Did upper body, running, eliptical, swimming and stretching. A little over 1 hour. The lifting was light just to stimulate my muscles a bit before I start hitting them a little heavier. I didn't want to be sore and besides, I had done 150 pushups the day before at kickboxing.

I weighed 197.0 this morning so I guess the chinese food from Sunday is out of my system. :D

I took yesterday off, exercise wise. I was very sore. I ate well though. I also ate well today. This morning I did 35 minutes of interval walking and running on the treadmill. I burned 450 calories according to my polar heart rate monitor. However, I did have a red bull and vodka tonight. Hopefully it won't be an issue.

No exercising yesterday or today. I am too sore. I spent about 16 hours on a tractor and 4 wheeler over the past two days. Both of them are hell on my back and knees. I plan to exercise tomorrow morning.

I am feeling good mentally right now. That has been the biggest challenge over the past year, my mental health. I have a hard time not dwelling on things and not getting angry at things I can not control. Exercise seems to help.

I did have a great workout on Sunday, June 14th, morning instead of going to church. My back was still sore and I was going to stay home but instead I went to the gym to walk it off. Ended up doing upper body, eliptical and swimming. Felt pretty good the rest of the day.

Yesterday, June 15th was me and my wife's 7th wedding anniversary. We have now been together as long as we had dated. So 14 years in all. Here is a picture of her and I from just a few hours ago.

P.S. In case you are wondering why I am up, bad storms are coming and I wanted to check weather.com to make sure there were no tornadoes.

Thanks! :) It's hard to believe in just 3 more years we will have been together longer than we have not.

Yesterday was the best day I have had in a long time as far as eating and working out goes.

I have never done this but I see others do it all the time so I'll give it a try. I'll break down my whole day.

8:00am
Slimfast shake and one banana

10:30am
Body Flow for one hour and then I swam for 30 minutes. Finally, I sat in the hot tub so I could heat my neck enough to do my neck stretches which usually take about 10 minutes. My neck is still not 100% healed from the 4 wheeler incident back in April.

12:30pm
Fruit & Yogurt Parfait and one medium coffee at St. Louis Bread Co (aka Panera everywhere else)
Lots of water

3:30pm
Myoplex Lite

5:15pm
25 minutes on eliptical
15 minutes on stationary bike
40:00 minutes total
583 calories burned
182 Max heart, 156 Avg heart
36:12 in heart rate zone (140 - 185)

6:30pm
Low fat chili with heart healthy beans
Lots of water

8:00pm
Small piece of pudding pie
1 cup of 1% milk

I had the pie because my mom made it special for me and my wife for our anniversary. I had ate some on Sunday, Monday and finally decided to have one last piece yesterday just to mentally be done with it. My wife took the rest to work this morning. I felt bad giving it away but I enjoyed plenty of it and I still have weight to lose. I am guessing the piece I had last night was about 300 calories worth.

This morning I weighed 196.5 so that gives me some confidence. Last week on Monday I think, I weighed 200.0. I would love to get back to 194.0, my low, ASAP!

Derrick
