Depression leads to weight gain

I put on weight due to depression and not working out or gym anymore.:cuss:

My spouse (36) died years ago and I cannot seem to cope. :angelsad2:

I have been feeling better lately and am ready to go outside and try to get back on track.

To knock this weight off,:smash: I need to move my body.:smash:

Can't seem to get motivated ever. Downloaded scores of music on my iPod and hearing this music is making me bop around in my chair!

Still cannot get motivated to walk.

:smash:any tips?:smash:

start slowly... and just go do it...

Easy to say but...

make a verbal or written agreement with yourself that you will go out and walk for 20 minutes... each week or every other week increase that time by 10 percent and only 10 percent...

At the end of a month - give yourself a reward for the consistent behavior.

No one can motivate yourself but you...

If you're movtiated to bop about in your chair but not walk - maybe walking isnt for you... what about another activity - dance for 20 minutes, skip rope, something..

everyone tells me to just get out and do it

but, I've only now been, maybe it's been 4 straight days without sobing.
Been on antideps and they are a miracle! without them, don't think i'd be here now. that is a fact.

it's been 3 years - cannot get over the loss. and when you're crying, the last thing you think about is walking, eating, showering - nothing.

I read how one poster put on old (too small) clothing that a they missed.
and that worked for them. I think that would work really well.

I'm hoping to find motivation. If know myself and writing a promise - I cannot even bother to do that. i wish I could just erase all the memories and move on.

we used to walk run bike and go to the gym together all the time. all the time. we were both very very fit. got loads of attention for it.

literally NO motivation to do anything. do not even speak on the phone to parents - no one. alone. so, it's hard to get motivated. That's why I joined here today.
:hurray:

Are there any type of support groups you can join for help in coping with your loss? Not wanting to walk seems like it's the least of what's going on with you right now...

What are your current stats and what are your goals?

What are you willing to do to achieve those goals?

What area are you in and can you find a buddy to go walking with? somestimes it's helpful to know you're getting out and meeting someone and if you don't show up you're letting them down

hey, my mom lost her husband a couple years back an she went into a depressed state and gained weight. I noticed whats helping her most is the fact that she wants to fit into the cute clothes, and look good, have people look at her..

When my friend killed himself i gained a lot of weight so i know it can be hard, dont push yourself, find a support group to help you threw this. even a online one.. you can do it <333

thank you. have a support system in place heree. psychiatric nurse comes to see me one a week. see my doc twice a month.

it took me 9 months to be able to even hear any music. we used to listen to music at work together, in the car, at home, working out... so music of any kind broke me down. I couldn't watch TV for the commercials would play a song and I'd break down for hours till I passed out from exhaustion.

would rock back and forth on my bed for HOURS at a time. So, now, going into the fourth year, I've finally put music on my iPod and am enjoying it.
THAT is a massive step.
but, looking for ideas that help others, not inspiration, just motivation techniques.

Why do you want to lose weight?

Why do you want to stay where you are?

From those answers will come your motivation...

Start slowly as the others have suggested.
Give yourself time, don't push TOO hard. Try it once, walking is really relaxnig, I do it with my mother and son, we take a walk down to the park every now and then and it's just SO relaxing.

Good luck :D I know you can do it!!!!

motivation is a deeply personal thing - what motivates one doesn't work for another.

People are trying to give you advice and you seem to not want to move off the pity pot.
You've asked multiple times how to motivate yourself to walk... you have to jsut do it..

Yes, it's tragic that you lost your wife...

BUT would she want you to sit in a dark room unable to function? Is that helping her memory? Is that helping you?

my mistake... :)

but it doesnt change what I said...

Would he want you feeling like you do right now -wouldnt' he want you to be happy and go on with your life...

I lost my best friend of more than 30 years 7 years ago - and there's not a day that goes by that I don't miss him and wish that I couldn't talk to him... but - I've got my memories of him... and I'm stil here -i know damned well he'd kick my butt if I used his death as a reason to not do something...
