depressed with the way my body is

Hi, im currently 21 years old, im 5 foot 11 and weigh 210 pounds. I look absolutely huge. I have man boobs and the biggest love handles i have ever seen, they go out literally 3-5 inches either side compared to the rest of my body, its disgusting. and my ass is mammoth, i cannot even wear t-shirts because my boobs pop out on the front and my ass sticks out at the back. 3 years ago i was so skinny, i was able to fit into jeans that were waist size 32, now i have to buy them in 38-40.

Can someone please tell me where to start to lose weight as quickly as possible. I have access to dumb bells at home but they are only 5 K

I would be very grateful for any help

Thanks

Hey Rajc86.
I too feel the same way but I think the way to get started is to first lose all the negitive thinking. I have decided to stop examining my appearance in every single shinny thing I can find my reflection in.
I often think about other people viewing me in a bad way and I fight it off with "if you don't like it, don't look at it" but maybe I should take my own advice.
Try to find things such as this web site to keep you focused and encouraged to lose weight and become a healthy person.
Use your 5k weights to start your excercise program. Maybe try a work out video where you can keep the weights in your hands while doing it. Every little bit helps and by the sounds of things you really need to get out of the negative thinking.
Focus on the positive. Face it, you've gained some weight now get it off! You CAN do it. It won't be overnight but accept that it will be a long journey ahead of you and it wont be easy at times.
Good luck!

Get a postive and determined attitude.

Write a list of all your health and fitness goals, and how you are going to achieve them. Here are some things to get you started straight away. And put up inspirations pictures and quotes everywhere I help you achieve your goals.

- Work out a menu plan for the week
- Reorganise your pantry and fridge and fill it with good, healthy, wholesome foods and snacks.
- Pre pack lunches, freeze dinners and make snack in advance in case you need a quick bite and don't want to slip up with your eating.
- Start exercising immediately. Even if you just do a few miles walking a day it is worth a start.
- Use fitness dvds when you are at home.
- If you want to watch tv make it rule that you exercise while you watch it, even if it is just in the add breaks.
- Start thinking becoming "healthy" not just becoming slimmer or skinny. This is alife long commitement to your health, not just about what you look like on the outside.

Good luck!:Angel_anim:

Hey,

Welcome aboard. I am new here too.

Please try this exercise. You will probably find it silly at first but I think you will really like the results.

Look up. Look at ridge that your eyebrows form. Use your periphal vision, don't strain. Follow this ridge to the point that it meets above your nose. Relax and focus on this point.

Relax and breathe deeply, slowly through your nose, for a count of five, continue to focus on the point where your eyebrows meet. Feel the air as it rushes into your nose; continue to focus on the point where your brows meet above your nose. Notice how the air feels as rushes down the back of your throat and into your lungs as you continue to focus on the point where your eyebrows meet. Feel you lungs expand fully.

Exhale slowly through your mouth. Again, for a count of five. Feel how it feels as the air rushes up your throat and out your mouth as you continue to focus on the point where your eyebrows meet. Feel the warmth and moistness of the air as it escapes out your mouth.

Continue to do this for 10 more breaths as you keep focusing on the point where your eyebrows come together and the air rushing in your nose and out your mouth. It’s very important that you focus on all three. With each breath try to feel more sensations, see more details of your brows.

When you have done 10 breaths, notice your mind has quieted down.

The first time I did this, I found it very hard to focus on two things at once. I had to do the exercise 20 times before I could calm down. I was a mess. This is a great stress buster. The more you do this the easier it will get. I do it all day now. Anytime I feel stress. It takes just seconds to do now. Before a big meeting, after being assigned an overwhelming task, during a confrontation or a situation where I feel out of control.

It sounds like you are trying to take an accurate assessment of your situation and there probably is some physical issues you would like to change. Your body is amazingly resilient, I am always surprised at how the human body can recover.

Your situation has some advantages you might not have thought of. You are young. Your body will naturally change faster than someone older. You have a clear picture of where you want to go.

If I could suggest that your mind is trying to assign emotion to some of the physical areas you would like to improve. Your mind is only trying to help you accomplish your physical goal by tying negative emotions to it, thinking it will motivate you to solve it.

Instead be kind and caring to yourself. Talk to yourself as you would to your best friend. Encourage yourself as you would your best friend. You are going to need yourself as your best friend as you stumble on weight loss adventure.

Your mind wraps emotions around a physical area. You will find it wrapping negative emotion on top of negative emotion until it becomes ball of raw nerves and emotions that there is no unraveling. For some stupid reason humans do this, maybe a DNA thing, who knows. But beat your mind at it's own game. Start wrapping positive emotions around these negative emotions that you feel. You don't have to unravel the negative emotions. Just keep wrapping positive emotions around it and pretty soon your mind will take over.

Wrap your negative emotions with the relief you feel that you caught this situation now before it got worse. Then the pride for the courage you have to face this head on. The gratitude you have that you found this site to help you. then how lucky you are that you are so young and your body is so resilient. You will find you mind taking over these emotions soon. Their your emotions make them help with your new goal.

The truth about your situation without the emotions is that you have some routines and habits that is not serving you well. You will need to find these, root them out and install new habits and routines that benefit you. That's it. But it will take some time.

Be your own best friend, do the things that others have posted for you on this site, one step at a time. Get excited you are going to change things quickly.

Congratulations on the decision to care for your self. I am impressed with the courage you have to get on this site and say what you did. Missy, you have alot of guts!! You are a champ.

Let me know if there is anything I can do. I have some exercises to help you center yourself and start from a position of strength if you think it would help.

Good Luck, I will be watching your success. :waving:

listen, i feel the same way about myself, and depression gets the best of me everyday of my life. Ive learned that all you have to do is think about where you are now and say it could ALWAYS be worse. youve probably heard that 23724720472 times before but trust me its true. And sadly, if you want to lose weight it is not going to happen overnight. The best thing you can do is accept how you are now, and just have a positive outlook. and NEVER BEAT YOURSELF UP! thats what ive been doing the past seven years in school and ive skipped school, cut class, and have even become bulimic because of all the teasing [im not anymore] and i didnt want to go to school because i didnt want to get made fun of. Being hard on yourself can lead to alot. you;re probably older than me though. im only 14 :p but you know what im sayinn. just dont be hard on yourself it can screw up older people too :) if you really want to lose weight, but still eat like a normal person, try weight watchers. its fabulous, i lost 10 punds in two weeks =O its what i would suggest and you get to eat alot of food on it too :)

good luck on your weight loss. i hope all goes well for you because i know it will

Hi. There is no quick way to lose weight. It takes time and determination combined with sensible eating and an exercise program including cardio and weight training.

My goal is to lose 10 lbs. per month. I was fatter than you are now. Now I'm down to 192 lbs. I went from 225 lbs. to 192 lbs. in just under four months. I still have at least four months to go, probably closer to six months, before I reach my goal.

There is no way you are going to lose 40 lbs. in one or two months (that's what I would call quickly). Set a realistic goal and find a way to achieve it. Me, for example, I cut out the soda pop and junk food. I also exercise regularly and do very light muscle exercises every week.

Blasting your muscles with weight lifting isn't going to get rid of the fat. That will only make you look fatter because the muscle under the fat will grow. But gaining muscle mass is good because muscle burns calories.

I am focusing on losing the fat before I focus on gaining muscle. I'm not looking for too much muscle, anyway. I want to be toned, not Mr. Universe.

hi thanks for the replies guys.

could anyone recommend any exercises that i could do at home that will specifically target my chest and stomach?

i cant really afford to join the gym at the minute but i will be joining in about 6 weeks.

i know i have developed bad eating habits, i eat a lot of carbs and also eat very late at night. its just a matter of trying to get out of those habits i guess.

once again, thanks for your replies

People above have given you some great advice. Weightloss is about changing your lifestyle, eating less than you burn, keeping active and making sensible food choices. It takes time.

I've found this webpage great, it has loads of exercises you can do at home. Some include dumbbells, some use your own bodyweight as resistance:

Good luck, you can do it - and it's so worth the effort :) Welcome to the start of a healthier life :)

Welcome aboard, buddy. You've stumbled upon a great site that will help you get started and stay motivated while trying to get healthy and transform your body. I was exactly where you are at about 6 or 7 months ago. Same height and weight. I'm down over 50lbs now and am proud to take my shirt off in public (for the first time ever). I doubt I could have gotten to where I am without the support of people in this forum and the vast body of useful knowledge contained here.

Like you, I started with dumbbells at home, but soon learned that joining a gym was the best way to go. I'm not sure if joining a gym is possible for you, but if it is, its worth the money. As far as dumbbell exercises, check out Bodybuilding.com - The Future Of Bodybuilding! Huge Bodybuilding Site. .. click on "supersite" then "exercises" on the left. Now scroll down "section 2 search the exercise database" and choose equipment- dumbbells only. That may get you started. Be sure to work out your entire body, not just problem areas. Problem areas will go away on their own depending on how your brain chooses to subtract fat when you are in caloric deficit. That's something we don't have any control over.

Read all the stickied threads in this forum. Go to each section- "nutrition," "weight loss through exercise", whatever and read the first threads in each section that always stay at the top. Some are pretty long, but all useful information.

This is going to take time and a lot effort if you really want to change your body. The good news is that it can be done and you are at the right place. Fill your head with knowledge from this forum and start a journal to keep others posted about your progress. People actually will read and keep up with you, give you pointers and motivate you along the way. Don't be afraid to spend several hours reading through this forum. It may take a while to re-learn what you thought you knew about the body and develop a do-able plan.

I know it sounds like you are anxious to start losing, but you've gotta be patient. A good goal may be 1-3 lbs a week. Get to reading and keep us posted on the plan you've developed and your progress/obstacles/etc.

Neither if a horrible habit... it's total calories consumed in the day that contribute to fat gain...

Spend time reeading the stickied threads... there's a lot of info that will help you in those threads

My son who 15 was able to drop 2 pant sizes in just afew months & all he did was start going to the Y's weight room. He spends most of his time in the free weights room but atleast 1-2 days in the circut room. He started out going every other day now he gets mad if he can't go every day. He hasn't really changed his eating habits - but it works for him.

Push-ups and abdominal crunches should be all you need in your beginning stages. Push-ups target your chest, lats, and triceps while the crunches will tighten your stomach muscles. I would recommend doing some curls with dumbbells or something else heavy enough to work your biceps.

I think joining a gym is a good idea. I've decided against that because my lifestyle is such that I can't always plan on doing something at a certain time. I walk in the morning because I can do that when I first get up. If I get up early, I can go walking earlier. I don't have to drive anywhere consuming precious time. Right now my main focus is on losing fat, not building muscle. I want to maintain what I have or grow a little muscle, but not much more than that. Joining a gym for me at this stage wouldn't be a wise expense. Not until I lose the fat, anyway.

But, if you want to invest a few dollars in free weights and a bench, you can become a body builder at home. Most muscle guys I've seen won't touch the machines, as they prefer the true motion of free weights.

But he's still young. His metabolism now is probably as high as it is ever going to be. That will change when he approaches 30.
