Deadline to meet...

Hello everyone!

I'm here because I have 30# to lose. And I'm planning to do it by January 1st, which roughly breaks down to 1.5# per week.

I've been working on slowly moving the scale numbers down over the last 7 years. At my worst, 197. At my best, about 165. I lost quite a bit of weight when I became a vegetarian...and promptly gained most of it back when I started having injectable birth control administered. I also, unfortunately, live with someone that has the worst eating habits imagineable (it's hard enough to deal with my own issues...let alone cook a healthful meal for someone that would rather die than eat vegetables). It's a daily struggle to mentally do what is best for my health 3/4 of the day...and then wind up watching a movie that night with the one I love...while sharing a bag of oreos and having popcorn, lol. I have pretty good self-control when it doesn't involve my loved one. I'm finding, however, that the pounds that injectable birth control helped me to put back on...aren't coming off as easily as they should. So, I've taken up trying to exercise my dog 3 times a week. My schedule is extremely hectic since I'm a senior veterinary technician at an emergency hospital. It's not quite as easy as getting up at 6am for a 2 mile walk...when you're in the middle of a surgery at that time. I prefer my walks just before sunrise or just after sunset which makes it difficult to schedule in time for exercise. I'd like to think that on busy nights at the clinic, I'm getting my 2 miles in (now if I'd just remember my pedometer to check).

Basically, I'm here for support. I'm losing this 30# by January because we have an upcoming vacation to the caribbean. We went last year...and my weightloss attempts before that cruise were hindered by actually gaining 10# instead of losing it (I call it self-sabbotage). I'm also planning to get married sometime within the next 2 years. So, it'd be awfully nice to look and feel spectacular.

welcome to the site...

have fun while you're here and much success getting to where you want to be (I refuse to say good luck, because it's not luck that's needed... :D )

Spend some time reading the stickied threaads through out the furm -they contain a lot of good info that will aid you on your journey... :D start a diary -it's a great way to keep track of your successes and challenges and allows people to get yo now you better... which helps with support.

Healthy cooking doesnt always mean choking down vegetables and bland boring foods - you can have full flavor and not kill yourself with excess calories... so having a partner to share in your new eating habits is helpful... eat what you like - in moderation :)

an account at is a great way to keep track of calories and other nutrients...

Hello Sami and welcome to the forum. I would check out the stickie threads on both nutrition and exercise. They will give you a good base of where to start. Its possible to loose weight without exercising, but the exercise does help.

I would say that 30lbs is doable, but you have to get your mind in the game. And you might try talking to your man and let him know your goals and how he is affecting them so that he is on your side. I know exactly what its like to have someone who eats less than healthy and its hard but again doable.

This forum is great for support and motivation. The people here are amazing. Check out the before and after section... you will be motivated right away to start a healthier life! I know I was!

Good luck and Cheers!

Hi welcome to the site! I feel like we may have a lot in common. My husband is not much help in the support group either. He always has to have some sort of junk food & even asks me if I want any knowing that I am trying to watch what I eat now. Yrs ago I was on the depo shot - It made me gain to, when I stopped taking it I lost a lot of weight. At that time I was not making healthy choices - working 2 jobs, one of which was at a resteruant & I was a cook so it was very easy to nibble on foods here & there. I did not do any type of excersizing other then whatever movement I did at work (sometimes alot sometimes a little) I now have a daycare in my home so I too have problems setting a set time to go workout. I help the families out by not keeping a 9-5 schedule. I have babysit anywhere form 6am- overnighters. You will get support here & the before & afters are great motivators.

I already have a plan set out that I know will work, I'm just going to have to stick to it.

I'm all about "eat whatever you want, but don't overdo it". That's where I'm going to have to stick to commitment. Tyma, we do have alot in common. About 2 years ago, I lost about 40# when I was not on BC and was working two jobs. Something about staying busy 18/24 hours makes you burn fat like nothing else, lmao. I'm glad I'm not the only person who gained on this BC, but it's really the only one that's taken care of ALL of the needs I have (it goes further than just preventing pregnancy, unfortunately). So, I'm just going to have to stick it out and quit whining about the weight gain on the injectable since it's made other aspects of my life so much easier (and, believe me, that's a blessing no matter WHAT I weigh).

Also, Tyma, I started a thread for those of us that want to have GROUP support. I'd love it if you'd join :)
