Deadlifts and other random thoughts to ponder

Woke this morning at 4:30 with one thing in mind....DEADLIFTING! I've been training for hypertrophy for so long, BUT this week I started a strength training block.

Let me tell ya this, if you haven't deadlifted for heavy weight...try it as soon as you can fit it in. Try it if you're feeling bored with your current state of training. Their is something special internally goin on after you finish a heavy set of DLs. I could go into all the details of hormones that are released but this is something you have to feel for yourself.

So, I've been nursing a sore shoulder for about 6months now. (Accident while drunk and stupid, don't ask. :( ) Anyway, I haven't really pushed the chest presses in a long time due to soreness but after my great deadlifting experience I said, "what the heck". I grabbed a spotter and for the first time in many months I was able to rep 90lb dumbbells for incline presses. This may not sound like much for many of you, but for my confidence and progress it was amazing.

I attribute all this excitement I now feel to Deadlift!!

Not sure if any of you really care but I thought I'd share my morning training experience and to spread the good news of the power of the deadlift. (Deep squats have been known to have the same effect)

Have a great weekend all!!

I agree. Anyone who says weightlifting has no aerobic benefits has not done heavy deadlifts or squats. After an all out set of 6 reps I am totally winded, as much as if I'd just run a couiple of miles. The only thing to be careful of is not to try to incerase the weight too fast and hurt yourself. After a layoff, I always start outr with a weight I can do 12 easy reps with and add 5 pounds every session (once a week max) until I get back to wher I can only do 6 reps again. I also mostly do stifflegged deadlifts on a platform. Some people say deadlifts are bad for you, but the more I do them the better my lower back feels. As long as you do them correctly and sanely they are good for you. Take it from someone who has been doing them for 30+ years.

DM: Congratulations man! There's not better feeling than the rush after a good few sets of a great exercise. And further congratulations on the bench...sounds like your healed.

I totally agree I've lost major inches on my butt because of squats and deadlifts...I had been working out for years and until I started doing them I now finally see results...it's a rush! I too have a sore shoulder (pinched nerve) I would have rather of been drunk while getting it...lol anyways, my point is that I'm missing doing them already.
