De-lurking -- my introduction.....

Hi All:

I have been "lurking" here quite a bit, and decided it was time to start a thread, and begin my journey. I have read through a lot of posts, and feel like I know some of you so well. Guess we are all just trying to achieve goals, and gain and give support along the way. Well, as I embark on my weight loss goals, I feel like I am in good company....from what I have read, you all seem like determined, supportive folks.

A bit about me....well, I am a 34 year old female from NY. Been doing the yo-yo dieting on and off for years and years. My brain knows the "right" things to do, but I have never had the willpower to implement a healthy lifestyle change. Eat right, excercise -- seem like such easy concepts, you know? Why I can't seem to get a handle on them is beyond me. BUT....all of a sudden, I feel "it's time". Have made some life changes recently, and am finally ready to tackle this "weight thing"! I thought I'd keep a sort of journal here to detail my "journey". If nothing else, writing my daily food intake and excercise will make me acocuntable for it.

Well, thanks for reading. I'm sure in the coming days and weeks, I'll have lots of questions, and look forward to getting to know a lot of you!

Hi Dee,

Welcome to WLF. Starting a diary or journal (whichever you'd like to call it) is a gret way to stay on track and get great support and information. You will also just find all around wonderful people. I decided now was the right time due to life changes too... getting into the right mind set at the right time has really helped me.

Good luck on your journey,
~Jenna

P.S. I'm from Long Island too... my family still lives there I live in Boston now.

Hi Dee,

Look across the Long Island Sound, that's me waving from the Connecticut Shoreline!

I know just what you mean about knowing the right thing to do, but inexplicably not doing it. I've done that for 35 years.

The plain fact that nobody's going to do it for me, there is no magic pill to take to make it happen, and if I don't start today, it's just one more day that I will stay fat. At 46 I am beginning to see that I likely have more days in my past than in my future. So I want every one of them to mean something. Working at the weight loss makes me feel good about me. Even though I'm not thin yet, I know that I will be.

It's a great feeling. Progress. You know? The first step is to stop harming yourself with food. The next step is to start eating correctly. Then build from there. It's slow but it does work!

Welcome and Enjoy your Journey!

Hi Dee, I am 32 and am in the same boat as you! I am up and down all the time, (right now I'm currently up), but just feel like I'm sick of the ups and want to keep it down, once and for all! I know what you mean, its such common sense, eat less and exercise, then why can't I stick with it? My lowest weight has been 136 and I really want to get to 130, so I have 29 to go, but I am just trying to do it the 1-2lbs. a week method. I've tried everything else, and wasted a lot of money on most of them, but the thing is, is that I know I can do it, because I've done it so many times before, how do I "keep doing it" so I stay there?? People always tell me if you want anything bad enough, you'll do it. Well I wish that was true, because I want nothing more than to be slim and healthy and not hate the way I look in a bathing suit! So I'm here with ya, in the same boat! Good luck!

Thanks for the support, and for visiting my journal. Your support and encouragement is appreciated.
Where are you from on Long Island?

Hi:

Thanks for encouragement! Wish there was a magic pill! Gosh knows I've tried everything -- if it were out there, I'd have tried it! But I am excited to do it the "right way" this time, and accept the fact that it is a lifestyle change, not a "six week crash diet" change.
Is that your child with you in your avatar? Beautiful baby.

Well, it appears we are both in good company. Lots of people on this forum seem to be working hard and achieving their goals, and I am excited to join their ranks. Have you thought about setting up a journal to track your food intake and excercise, etc.? Check out mine if you have a moment. I figured, if nothing else, it will make me accountable to myself to have to journal my intake, etc.
Good luck and I am excited for you!

Welcome to the forum Dee.

This is a great place to get tons of info and support. I have only been here for 3 weeks and have had tons of support. I hope that everyone is just as supportive to you. Good luck on the start of your journey.

Congrats on making the first step! Also, I was a lurker! It was hard joining and posting for the first time. I have also been there done that in weight loss. Welcome!

Best Wishes,

Carrie
