DCarr10760's Weight loss diary

Today's calories 2495. With my one hour walk, Fitday says I burned off 3744 calories leaving me with a deficit of 1249 calories. The numbers work out (assuming that today is average) to a roughly 2-1/2 pound weekly loss.

Of course I haven't lost any weight at all in a month, so something isn't right. The 3743 calorie requirement breaks down as follows:

Basal: 2142 57% Based on a 238 lb Male age 47
Lifestyle: 1334 36% Seated work, some movement (accurate)
Activities: 268 7% 1-hour walk 4 miles/hour
--------------------------------------------------------------
Total 3744

Now I suppose the obvious problem is that I may be inaccurately figuring my calories. But if this were true, I would need to be off roughly 1000 calories on average each day.

I measure my food, I eat simple things that I make myself so it's easy to figure the calories. In some instances I am guessing but feel that I am overestimating calories rather than underestimating them.

I don't really believe this is where my problem is.

My gut reaction is that my maintenance requirements are a good bit lower and that I have way less deficit each day as a result.

I'm not really sure what to do about this, apart from eating less, which feels wrong (forcing my body to adapt to even less?) step up the exercise? I devote an hour a day now, I can add more (resistance and cardio). I have been lazy about this.

Tomorrow I will dust off the dumbbells and do some weight training in the evening. I'll do it T, Th, and Sat. and see if it shakes me loose.

David

I would say that your calories burned is probably high. Fitday says I burn about 2900 calories a day without any exercise. I know this has to be at least 400 calories high. I would say eat closer to 2000 cals a day. You are only 12lbs more than I, and I eat between 1500-1800 a day. As you're a guy, you can get away with more. See if that helps. Also, more weights is a good idea, like you said.

Damn! I knew somebody was going to say that! That 500 calories I was saving for BEER!

:cheers2:

Ahhh well okay.... Have a good night!

Poor thing! How about a lite beer? :cheers2: :eek: I know, I know. Lite beer! Oh, the horror. :D

A glass of wine is pretty low cal. :)

Lite beer? I couldn't!

Actually, truth be told, I've cut waaaaaaay back on the drinking. I had a Martini and a glass of cheap red wine at the In-laws on Sunday and a glass of Whiskey on Sat and that's pretty much it for the whole of last week.

I've cut way back on beer, I guess in support of the weight loss effort, but not entirely. I don't keep beer at the house anymore and it's a rare occasion (these days) that my regular drinking buddies will get together to "tip back a few." Often as not, if we do meet after work for a quick one it's just that, a quick one (maybe two, no more than three...).

The evidence is really beginning to look like I've grown up...dang!

No movement on the scale again...I got pissy and nearly went back to bed in frustration, but got up and walked anyway. I'll stick to 2000 calories for the next week or so and see what's up...or hopefully, down!

David

I'm with Kimberly on this one, and good for you for cutting back on drinking, I hear ya there! Yes, perhaps you should try to stick with under 2200 at least. And I definitely think that more weight training will help you break the plateau! For sure! Have a great day today! :D

With all your comments, we already know what's "up." ;)

What a beer snob your are! lmao. I think that if you stick to keeping your calories around 2000 you'll see the scale go down. :cheers2:

Hey Everybody,

I have decided that I am going to take myself away from the forum permanently. I think I am spending too much time here and not enough time where I need to be.

So I wanted to thank everybody. You've all been really kind, fun and supportive. I hope you all achieve the goals you have made for yourselves.

Goodbye all!

Best Regards,

David Carroll

Poking in to say Hi, sweet people.

Still struggling along. I've put on a bunch of weight (up to 267...sigh). But I'm thinking I have to do something about it. So I guess it's a first step.

See you again soon!

Best,

David C

Hey there David :). What has happened? Too much beer no doubt . How's little Davie? Some of us are still around, including our faithful bikinibound. Dont feel bad, I've hung around most of the time and still gained a few pounds. I just dont bother updating my diary anymore :D. TTYL

See what happens when you leave us--bad things happen! :biggrinjester:

I'm very glad to see you back, and hope you become a regular visitor again. You've been missed. :)

How's life on the homefront?

Don't be such a stranger!

PS--I drank 4 beers last night--I know you'll be proud. :biggrinjester:

I've been poking around here again for the past week or so. Six months ago I was doing pretty well, I had lost a bunch of weight I was down to 238 or thereabouts. Long about the end of November I just sort of stopped. I'm not sure why. Obviously there were reasons, life got hard...whine, whine, whine.

Then the dark Winter closed in and I sorta lost it entirely. Food and booze were my consolation. It was messy. Now Instead of being habitually healthy, I have become habitually unhealthy. So the choice is to stay how I am, and eat and drink my way into oblivion or to try starting now to take care of myself.

I will take care of myself.

Thanks for dropping by :)

David

Sorry you had such a rough winter. Glad you've decided to take care of yourself. You owe it to Davey to do what you can to stay healthy. He needs his dad. :)

Sorry for the guilt trip. :D

Hey David! How about maybe easing into it by just cutting a few things out or substituting some bad things for some good things to start with. And maybe add just a little exercise, nothing grueling but just getting back into walking regularly or something. That alone will do wonders. It may take longer to get the weight off but I can see "starting" your big plan seems to be holding you back. And I dont blame you..haha

Hi B & B

Thanks for dropping in to say Hi!

I guess that's what I"ll do. Cut out the obvious badness (food wise) and start to be more mindful of getting some exercise.

I'm not going to overdo it, but try to make manageable changes at first.

Thanks for the kind words.

David
