Heh, I thought writing about this stuff was interesting so I figured I would give it a shot for reflection purposes.
Stats: 27 year old male, live in Philadelphia. 5'11" and some, but not quite 6'. Original weight: 274 - 279 flucuated. --- Goal: 200-205.
My whole process started in October of 06, a few days before my birthday really. Some of my students were actually calling me some pretty funny stuff... fat being one of them, but I realized DAMN, I am fat. I do have a hot dog package neck... I also felt really shitty too. Health wise it wasn't good, I was winded by three flights of stairs at school, couldn't sit out in 90 degree weather without sweating like I just ran 3 miles (hypertension, BP was about 140/90).
I joined L.A. Weightloss... and it worked for me. It isn't like I was doing this to get a girlfriend. I had been dating my girlfriend at the time for about six months, she liked me the way I was (she is a fit person, watches what she eats, works out, gorgeous), I didn't even tell her I was doing this. Just called her up after I went to the center and told her. While I was doing LA, I learned about portion control and what the body needs to run not what it wants. LBS started coming off and I felt good... I did hit a few plateaus and I think for the most part I over came them. I however felt that I cheated more than I should because certain things were ALWAYS a NO-NO on the plan. I recently (about March or April) decided that calories in vs calories out was a much better situation for me. It allowed for me to make my perogies (not bad really, 3 is only 180 calories), and other favorites that I used to make.
At this point I've lost about the same amount from LA as CAL IN vs. CAL OUT. I do want to get rid of the remaining flab I have. It is some loose skin with my remaining guy. I am at 222 now, which means I have about 15-20 for my goal. I do feel like I am in another plateau, or maybe its just going slower than I want! My original pant size was 46... now I can wear some 36's but mainly a 38. Shirt size XXL to XL, but I am eyeing up some L's soon because the XL's seem too baggy in some brands.
Problem is, I still see all this flab and I want to start toning up but I think it might add too much weight. I do lift, but I lift light weights at high reps... I am about the same build as my friend who weighs 207, but I am definitely more solid than he is and that's where I attribute the weight difference (man that kid has a huge head... and a fat face
). I am trying to introduce HIIT into my routine. Did it yesterday on my elliptical and the first 4-5 reps weren't that bad actually. Now, the last five were brutal, sweat was pouring and the heart was def pounding! I didn't feel like I wanted to throw up like everyone said, so I don't know if I did it correctly. I certainly did give it my all on the 20 second bursts... I do have a higher endurance threshold for shit like that though. Always have... even as a fat guy. I would get people saying things like "Wow, you can move for a big doode!". I guess I am asking for people's input on HIIT and if I should hold off on my GOAL weight before I start lifting a bit heavier for tone.
Crucial areas I want gone are my man tits and belly. I obviously know I can't pick and choose what areas get what weightloss but thats what I want to work on.
A daily workout for me is usually switched up from power walking / partial jogging (in retrospect not enough to help with my metabolism) followed by crunches, circuit cardio training (works very well), bike riding, elliptical, light weight high reps... sometimes its a combination of two of those things. I have stepped it up to be more serious and regimented but I do anywhere from 30-60 minutes of these things a day around 4-5 days a week.
Well, thats it for this rant... if I think of anything else, you know where to find it.
