Dante's Quest For Perfection

As the title suggests, I'm starting my quest for perfection. Not the normal social definition, but my own. Me and my girlfriend just took the first step and joined 24 Hour Fitness today. I also bought a 20lb. weight vest to wear around the house and while I work out, to give my body an added boost.

Goals

1) Lose 80 - 100lbs.
2) Tone Arms
3) Flatten My Stomach
4) Increase My Stamina
5) Get Down To Size 42 (Pants)

Misc. Info

Height: 6'1''
Weight: 393

If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
My ideal weight would be 240 pounds.

At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
270 pounds

Why do you want to lose weight?
I want to get back in shape, and fit some of these clothes that I bought and never wore.

What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
More excercise and a change in the way I eat.

Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
I lost 80lbs. in the past, but put it back on. I started to slack in my work outs, and started eating tons of junk food again. Surprisingly, I did manager to stick to drinking water 99% of the time. I usually only have 1-3 sodas per month (juice included).

Chicken, fish, rice, pretzels, and soup helped me lose weight fast and tone my body so I didn't have any loose skin. I also took stairs instead of elevators or escelators. Eating 2-3 unsalted pretzels and drinking water every 15-30 minutes helped increase my metabolism. I disciplined myself to drink water every 15-30 minutes even if I wasn't thirsty.

I use to work security, so it didn't seem abnormal for me to walk the community college campus for my entire 8 hour shift. After work, I would hit the gym for 1-2 hours per night, 6 days per week. I would lift weights first, and cool down with a 30 minute walk on a 12 incline.

Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
Yes, that is something I intend to stop doing. I have scheduled all of my meals and snacks throughout the day, so hopefully that will help.

Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
I love to watch t.v. while I eat, and always have. I'm not sure if that's good or bad for you, but it makes eating more enjoyable. I try not to eat when I'm on the computer. I'm anal about spills of food or drinks near my computer, so that rarely happens.

What type of snacks do you eat?
I'm not really a snack person, but I snack on pretzels when I'm dieting. If I do happen to snack, cookies are my cryptonite. I could eat chocolate chip cookies with almonds and milk all day.

In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
Just got my membership to 24 Hour Fitness and plan to start on 10/27/08

What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
I just like to see the numbers move on the scale. The whole prospect of getting stronger, and faster while losing weight is enough motivation for me personally. Some smaller motivations are paying less for my clothes, and having a wider selection of clothing, other than XXL Clothing Store, Big and Tall, and Big Daddy Clothing Company. They have some nice stuff, but I want more choices, even if I don't take advantage of them.

Do you have rewards for certain goals?
I'm going to allow myself 1 free meal per week (Sunday) where I can eat what I want with no guilt. I won't go overboard, but I will enjoy myself when I eat that day.

I guess that's it for my first post. I'll update at least once per week, probably on Mondays.

Today was the official start of my diet and excercise. I started out the morning with breakfast:

1 package of oatmeal
1 banana
2 cups of water (8oz.)

Gym 1 1/2

After we got back home, we ate:

1 cup of light yogurt
2 cups of water

Around lunch time, I had a tuna salad:

1 can of tuna
Lettuce
Crutons
Garlic
Pepper
Mushrooms
2 cups of water

I plan to snack on 2-3 unsalted pretzels every 30 minutes until dinner. At dinner, we will have:

Salmon
White Rice
Water

Hopefully, I can keep up this diet and stick to it. Last night we went through the refrigerator and threw out the mayo, cheese, butter, whole milk, and salad dressing. I made sure we ate the cookies Saturday night, lol. So there is nothing to cheat with in the house except fish, fruit, rice, yogurt, water, and unsalted pretzels. Not my idea of comfort food.

I think this will be a big help to us, because if I want a quick snack, the only 2 things I don't have to prepare are bananas, pretzels, and light yogurt.

Looks like you have a solid plan! It always helps when your significant other joins in. :hurray: Good luck on your journey! :D

Yesterday was my weekly weigh in and I lost 2lbs. I was hoping for more because I lost 4lbs the first 2 days, but I'm slightly smaller. I worked out 5 days last week, and closely watched what I ate.

I did slip up and only drink 6 glasses of water on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I'm not sure if my body retained water those 3 days or not. This week, I'm intensifying my work out to get better results. I know I've put on some muscle, so its not really all that discouraging.

My goal for this week is to lose 10lb. of fat, and build 2-3lbs. of muscle. Its not so much about how much I weigh, but about how my weight looks on me. So I guess my goal for this week would be an overall weight loss of 7 - 8lbs.

New Weight: 391

Yesterday was my weekly weigh in and I'm down to 389. My goal is to get down to 340 by New Years Eve. Its a hard goal to reach, but I'm trying my best to hit the gym 6 days per week, eat 6 small meals per day, and stick to my diet.

I'm gaining muscle mass very quickly. I guess because I used to work out and my body remembers it. Hopefully I'll build a ton of muscle mass quickly and lose a lot of fat even faster. I know its wishful thinking, but its motivating.

New Weight: 389

I haven't posted in a couple of weeks, but I'm back. I actually didn't go to the gym for about 3 weeks because of finances. Today was my first day back and I weighed in at 386, so I still lost 3lbs. even though I wasn't going and I was eating crazy.

I slacked on my diet a lot, had Del Taco quite a few times, Wendy's, and McDonalds. Now I'm focused again because I paid my gym bill and I can get back doing what I was when I started.

I didn't realize that it was so hard to maintain a diet when I can't go exercise everyday like I did in the beginning.

New Weight: 386

I haven't posted in a while, but I'm back on track. Just started back to the gym yesterday, and I'm down to 380. I don't plan on stopping this time, so I'll make sure to log in more and keep everyone up to date on my progress.
