cutting qestion

Im attempting to lose around 20 pounds of fat so the muscle ive gained in the last 4 months of lifiting weights is better displayed. its cold as hell in toronto, and thus running is not an option. I have a trainer for my bike which I use 5 days a week. I ride the trainer on lifting days also if I find the time to space the two far enough apart, otherwise I ride on the 4 non-weight days plus one weight day. My question is this:

I am terrified of losing what little gains ive made in the muscle dept. I eat well most often (90-95 percent of the time). Im not starving myself so my calorie intake is adequate. But the problem is that I cant really seem to get a "SOLID" cardio workout from my bike. I mean Im for suuuuure sweating. And as I go up and down the gears at set intervals my legs burn like a mofo. but im not out of breath really, moreso slightly laboured. Is this sufficent for weight loss? ( I realize its a matter of heart rate percentage) Also, generally on three of the five days of cardio I try to do 40 mins in the morning and then another 40 mins at night. Is there any danger of losing muscle with this?

i appreciate the time take to read and respond, thank you

1. You DO NOT need to do cardio to cut. It is a function of diet. Cutting is done by having a caloric deficit.
2. You are doing way too much cardio. In some individuals cardio can actually cause your body to store more fat. At most 20 minutes of cardio 3 times a week is all that is needed to keep your circulatory system fit, and if you are truly trying to cut fat and keep muscle, you should probably only do cardio once a week for 20 minutes and concentrate all your energy on weigth training to keep the muscle.

Did you know that running in the cold actually burns more calories? Because your body uses more energy to keep itself warm.

Right, seems somewhat contradictory that running the cold would burn more calories then the heat but it is true.
Your body uses more calories trying to regulate its own temperature in the cold then say running in the heat.
