Well I think you are entitled to merely be PROUD of the fact that you are maintaining your running habit... it's not one of the easiest to keep up!

You are #1 in my book (W 25-29). :cheers2:

Val, as I am sure you know, there are good days running, and some days that are less so. Doing it is the important thing, and you are still right up there. I would imagine that on another day you would have been top finisher.

You don't think Thomas sapped your speed, do you? :biggrinjester:

oh yes, and

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LUCAS (my first boyfriend), BRUCE LEE, AND JIMI HENDRIX!!!!!!

Have you seen Lucas since the first grade?? :D :)

That was a very respectable run Bunny! As Trops said... some days you are on, some you are off.... I'd kill to be able to run a 7:11 min mile!! PLUS, you helped raise an insane amount of cash for a great cause! You aren't allowed to be down on yourself. Have an exceptional day! :)

David, Kelly, Lena, Dee, Cerella, Tysha, Alta-- Thank you all for the TG well-wishing! :grouphug: I had a FANTASTIC time with my family--my-soon-to-be 23 year old [second] cousin sure impressed me with his awesome responsible-ness and family-first attitude. He actually (without me asking) offered to and DID drive me from the Hills to Sac State Uni (25 minute drive) and picked me up, what a sweetheart! He informed me that not a week goes by where his dad (my great uncle) doesn't get a call from ALL his siblings (my gramps, my other great uncle, and my great aunt). I was unaware that my grandpa was so tight with his brothers and sister, but I had an idea--but every week! ALL RIGHT! :hurray:

My aunts (mom's) are in Minnesota together so I wasn't able to see them. One lives there, the other lives in New Mexico on the tribe, and I have one aunt in Hollywood. So I seldom get to see them. Auntie Jennifer in Minnesota used to live next door to me, so I got to see my cousins Keith and Amanda (21 and 19) grow up until they moved when I was 17. I don't have brothers or sisters, but my cousins sort of sufficed, and I got to see my second cousins every year at TG (tradition in the El Dorado Hills) but this year, Evan (19) is in Virgina with his mom's side of the family (he's going to school in North Carolina--btw he's the really fast runner who can run 3.1 miles in 15 minutes).

WHEW! Anyway........

Well I think you are entitled to merely be PROUD of the fact that you are maintaining your running habit... it's not one of the easiest to keep up!

You're right, and thank you Anke :) I see myself running for the rest of my life, god willing and god forbid I don't get royally fucked up in body (i.e. in a car crash or something).

You are #1 in my book (W 25-29).

Awwwwwww--CHEESY!!!!!! :hug2:

Val, as I am sure you know, there are good days running, and some days that are less so.

My cuz reminded me that it was 20 degrees cooler than summer racing weather, even though I warmed up as best I could (I was running in shorts and a tank, other people were more bundled up). So yeah, 50 degrees versus 70 degress MAY have made a difference in my speed, I dunno really. I'm used to racing in summer, not late autumn.

You don't think Thomas sapped your speed, do you?

NAH! :p

Have you seen Lucas since the first grade??

HAHA I met him when I was 14--for whatever reason I never had boyfriends until then. I called him yesterday, and we IM from time to time.

Oh thank you JZ! :hug2: I think I just need to step up my HIIT and uh, actually DO IT, LOL!!! I have been a LAZY bunny about that, dammit!

About to go to my retreat

OK, check in for the Yoga retreat is at 4pm and it's about 3, so I'm going to leave in a half hour--I'm at my office using the computer and chillaxing for a bit.

I got home from the Hills at 8:30 and crashed at 9:15--the race really took it ot of me! :svengo: I also could NOT get out of bed until 9am, even though I woke up at 7:30. I just rested and hugged and kissed my cat Oliver.

Racing is HARD on the body. Running as fast as you can for 6.2 miles is something that taxes me out, I can't BELIEVE people like my Cuz Evan, who runs 15-20 miles on a given day at a very quick speed, probably 7 minute miles for him :eek2: One cool ass thing about racing is the upper ab workout :D Ya hafta keep good posture while running otherwise cramps can occur. I, of course, have excellent posture and maintain "robot arms" to sort of give me extra momentum without swinging my torso. Combine that with an open heart chakra (;)) and it's no wonder my upper abs are sore as all hell the next day! And added bonus.

Racing, not running, works the upper abs hard core. I swear it! :dupe:

Anyway GOOD NEWS! After over-eating (oh man I was on the couch for an hour before I drove home, just hurtin' from mashed potatoes, green beans, bread, cranberry stuff, sweet potatoes, and wine--I didn't manage to make my Tofurkey) yesterday and bleeding like a stuck pig (oh my cramps are BAD today :() I still weighed in at 144.0 lbs and my abs look really fucking lean save for some period-bloat in the lower region. This means that IF I watch my nutrition, after my period's over I might weigh anywhere from 139-141 lbs :D Because P-time means a 6-4 lbs weight gain. I'm REALLY pleased about that, looking forward to it!

So this morning and afternoon I slept in, packed up, played with my cat, washed my Yoga mat, went to the market in Boulder Creek, and used the leftover veggies from my dinner with C last week and a few new ones to make a veggie and tofu stir fry with very little oil--mostly used vegetable stock. I spiced it up good with curry, cayenne and sea salt, and make wild rice and cooked it all together in a cast iron skillet. I figured I may as well get a healthy start to my healthy Yoga retreat. I resisted the urge to buy a beer just now, and figured I should stay clean this weekend. HAHA!

I won't be around until Monday probably so I hope everyone has a great, GOAL-REACHIN' weekend. I'm gonna try to hit up some diaries but I won't be able to visit all of them! Take care!

I agree with the others that you have no right to be down on yourself about that race. IMO you did FANTASTIC!!

Glad you had a great T-day and hope you have a blast at the yoga retreat. :)

Kimberly: Thank you Sweetheart! :hug2:

Miss Brunette Goddess! Hey there! :) All right!!!! Wanna do YOGA together???

My Retreat

Well it really was all that! Right now I'm at my office, showered and getting ready for dinner with Chris and one of his only friends from out of state whom I've never met, which is exciting! :cheers2:

Anyway......where should I begin? I don't even know! LOL

Well, Samantha and Kelly (the Yoga instructors who put on the retreat) are warm hearted, smiley, genuine, enlightened, beautiful, fit, amazing, talented women and I'm absolutely grateful and glad I went on their retreat. I slept in a room with 4 beds and 3 other women, and I followed each scheduled event. Mt. Madonna center has one of the most famous Hanuman temples in the USA (Hindu Monkey god, friend of all deities) and is on top of a (ha!) mountain, overlooking Monterey Bay. The weather was clear and beautiful, if not a bit cold. Hmmm by cold I guess I mean 48 degrees or something, but it fluctuated. Anyway, people LIVE up there and do Buddhist work/study in Ayurvedic medicine, Yoga, whatnot. There were about 40 people on the retreat and the majority were women in their 40s, but there WERE a few in their 20s and one 74 year old! HAHA I did SOooooooooo much Yoga :) But knowing you guys, I guess you want to hear the juicy part.....

HAHA! Leave it to ME to meet a cute, extremely loving and affectionate 23 year old Leo boy with longish blond curly hair and a short beard (just how I like em, but usually brunette) in the muthafuckin' HOT TUB last night at my muthafuckin' Yoga retreat........:coolgleamA:

Leave it to ME to remember that I had a bottle of WINE in my car and he and I wanted to go grab it and drink it........:cheers2:

Leave it to ME to proceed to drink the bottle and snuggle and make out with this boy on a fountain the the forest grounds, then go back to his room to make out some more and play some show n/ tell (but nothing more, haha!) and find out this boy is extremely well endowed, HAHAHAHAAHAAAA :hurray: Hey--it's "OK" to look. Thumbs up! Being unattached is GRRRRRRRRRRRRREAT!

Leave it to me to maintain some kind of prudishness to say Later Dude :seeya: and kick rocks back to my own dorm at 2 in the morning after I had enough playing, and wake up at 6:45am for Dynamic Yoga at 7am this morning :D

Ahhhhhh non-attachment. A short make out session in the middle of my Yoga regime was a perfect way to practice Metta, or filling my heart with loving kindness. YES! :hurray: Anyway yesterday was HARD on me--1 hour meditation at 7:30am, and hour of Yoga, brunch, then a lecture on Ayurvedic medicine, then a lecture on the Cosmology of Sensation (light, math, the formation of the universe, and the connection between the numbers 9, 5 and 7--dude this shit gets trippy!!!!), then another 2 hours of Yoga, dinner, then an hour of CRAZY dance, then 2 hours in a hot tub with a cute boy, then.....yeah, rough day! Haha

But I gotta go--I learned so much more but I have to meet Chris--and I know y'all just want to hear the juicy stuff. HAHA!

Love ya! Have a great Sunday night!

Hot tubs are glorious inventions are they not? :reddevil: I :beating: them. Although alcohol, quality time and some "activity" will tend to dehydrate after a while...

Glad your holiday and retreat were as much fun as they were.

I've been absent but I must give HUGE props for your race! Even though you didn't like it... that's awesome. I'd be eating your dust.

You're also helping me to not fear the single life! HAHA I forgot about the perks of single, non-committed life. I think I need plan a night out. Soon. :D

Have a great week!

TG is awesome!!!

I SUCK as a runner though, compared to what I was :( :nopity:

7 out of 551 W 25-29

7:11 mm 44:36 for 6.2 miles

That might sound good, but for me, it SUCKS ASS  The worst time, ever--one of the first races I have not placed.

Wow, I know you felt like you didn't do well, but girl, that is a fabulous time!! You should be proud.

Do you feel like you really trained hard for this race or did you just wing it?

Karl: Thanks so much! Yes, I'm glad I had such a great time, too :D

Dar: Thanks a lot, I'm just going to have to train with more HIIT to get back to under 7 minute miles. I suspect that my belly dancing and Yoga have mellowed me out and loosened my hips, which is good, but not good for racing! And YES, there IS life after divorce, IF that is the case :D :cheers2: Sometimes it's just nice to make out with a cute, cuddly person randomly. Positivity all around! :grouphug: Have a great week yourself!

JZ: Tee hee hee! "Typical"--
(\__/)
(='.'=)
(")_(")

M: Thank you!! :hug2: In all honesty I thought I was training all right. But not so hard, and I really think my lack of HIIT (just one kickboxing drill day per week, because I rarely have motivation to do sprints--I think the last time I did it was a month ago!) combined with trading belly dancing on Tuesdays for Kickboxing, and also the fact that for a few months I have been really shoddy with running on the weekends......and Yoga has totally loosened me up, where tight hips actually might HELP me run faster. But in all honesty I think it was my breathing that slowed me down--so basically I need more HIIT and I think I might go to the doctor and see if I REALLY have gotten rid of my asthma.

HAHA! I should start a "Runners with Asthma" group. Nah, the liability would be too high......

Last night I had a great time with Chris and his friends. Apparently he has THREE friends, silly boy! All of em 21, met them in Boy Scouts many years ago. Two of them are Air Force Academy cadets, but all three of them were top notch, intelligent guys. Real first class. It's weird for me to meet such highly intelligent 21-year-old boys on their way to becoming pilots  I'm used to drinker/smoker/party boys so it was kind of weird for me. Also I'm aware that they come from upper-middle-class families in Santa Cruz county, and made it through Eagle Scouts--remember, always the Anthropologist ;). Tee hee, I looked like such a hippie in my tripped out clothes compared to them last night! We had sushi dinner, and then went to the Italian Restaurant where they proceeded to try and get one of them, Ryan, drunk. I had Yoga on the brain and so I showed them a thing or two right there on the restaurant floor (no one cared, we were practically the only ones there), then I challenged the drunkest one to a Chaturanga contest; basically this kid was in the Air Force academy and never heard of a triceps push up. So I competed with him on who could hold a mid position, longer--AND I WON!!!!!!!:smilielol5: :hurray: :sifone: :coolgleamA: haha his friends said "Oh it's because he's kind of drunk" :icon_bs:

Well, Chris's friends like me and I like them. We also went to another bar (but only one guy was drinking) where there was live music--SC is a bit dead on Sunday nights but the live music was great--drums, guitar, and organ jazzy stuff. I had sushi, beer, green tea ice cream, and half of Chris's Italian dessert (vanilla bean custard) and STILL weighed in at 143.5 lbs this morning! :hurray: A pound lost over the weekend, and in all actuality I ate as much as I wanted. My body is looking FANTASTIC thanks to all the Yoga--wow I'm really getting leaned and toned! I need to take some pictures real bad............

Anyway, I highly suspect I'll be dropping down to 140 SOON! So today I'm being careful and my P is ALMOST over, YAY! Ok, have a great Monday, I'll be around when I can!

What is HIIT? You have asthma and you run? :) Anything is possible...

LOL!!! "High Intensity Interval Training"

High-intensity interval training (HIIT) or sprint interval training is an exercise strategy that is intended to improve performance with short training sessions. HIIT is a form of cardio which is beneficial to burning fat in a short and intense workout. Usual HIIT sessions may vary from 15-30 minutes. Most HIIT sessions have a 2:1 ratio in terms of time. For example, for running, your HIIT session may be something like 60 seconds jog, 30 seconds sprint.

An example of a HIIT session may be as follows: Use this scale of 1-10 (1 being a casual walk and 10 being sprinting as hard you can) to help clarify the intensity level of the run. For this exercise, it is most efficient if it is done on a track or at least outdoors instead of on a treadmill. Begin with a five minute warm up jog at about a 4-5 followed by a couple of minutes of stretching. Then start with a jog at about a 5-6 intensity level for 60 seconds and then sprint at an 8-9 intensity level for 30 seconds. Repeat this cycle 6-8 times depending on how fit you are (Beginners should limit themselves to 6 cycles and more advanced HIIT users should strive for 8 cycles). Your HIIT session will look something like this: Jog (level: 5-6, 60 seconds) then Sprint (level: 8-9, 30 seconds), Jog (level: 5-6, 60 seconds) then Sprint (level: 8-9, 30 seconds), Jog (level: 5-6, 60 seconds) then Sprint (level: 8-9, 30 seconds), Jog (level: 5-6, 60 seconds) then Sprint (level: 8-9, 30 seconds), Jog (level: 5-6, 60 seconds) then Sprint (level: 8-9, 30 seconds), Jog (level: 5-6, 60 seconds) then Sprint (level: 8-9, 30 seconds). After you complete your cycle, you should also have a cool down run to help your heart rate return to normal.

A HIIT session involves a warmup period, several short, maximum-intensity efforts separated by moderate recovery intervals, and a cooldown period. The period of alternating effort and recovery intervals typically lasts a total of 15 minutes. HIIT is an excellent way to maximize your workout if you are limited on time as well.

Studies by Tabata, Tremblay and others have shown this method to be more effective at burning fat and maintaining, or building, muscle mass than high-volume, lower intensity aerobic work-outs. A study by Gibala et al demonstrated 2.5 hours of sprint interval training produced similar biochemical muscle changes to 10.5 hours of endurance training and similar endurance performance benefits. According to a study by King , HIIT increases the resting metabolic rate (RMR) for the following 24 hours due to excess post-exercise oxygen consumption, and may improve maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max) more effectively than doing only traditional, long aerobic workouts. Long aerobic workouts have been promoted as the best method to reduce fat, as fatty acid utilization usually occurs after at least 30 minutes of training. HIIT is somewhat counter intuitive in this regard, but has nonetheless been shown to burn fat more effectively. There may be a number of factors that contribute to this, including an increase in RMR, and possibly other physiological effects.

Congrats on the race, even if you aren't content. And glad to hear you enjoyed hanging out with Chris's friends. Can't ever have enough good people in your life. :)
