Are crunches and situps the same thing?

At week 5 (last week) of weight watchers, I got my crunches materials. Basically 3 different types of crunches for a total of 90. I must admit... I am an apple shape... so the tummy is my problem area. I just (finally) introduced my crunches 2 days ago. Should I/Can I do them daily?

I know I am not looking for a six pack or anything.. but with doing situps regulary, do situps really work on decreasing all this belly fat?? How long before I would notice anything? (I know it varies from individual to individual.)

I am really REALLY trying to get rid of my disproportionate belly...If it wasn't for it, then I would be wearing a 2x, not a 3x... I am always trying to wear baggy clothes on my stomach so nothing clings... but then it's really baggy on the chest and I can't lean over!

This is just my opinion based on things I've read in the past. Doing crunches everyday should be no problem (unless you hurt a stomach muscle). However, you won't lose fat in your stomach just from doing crunches. It might change your shape slighty. With that being said, having a strong core is very, very beneficial. You'll take strain off your back and protect it from injury. You'll have more flexibility You'll be able to move easier. Think of your stomach and lower back muscles as your center of gravity. If they're strong, you're whole body will work a little better.

Hope this helped a little!
