Crunches and other ab workouts are killing my neck

I've been trying to keep up with doing various crunches, and although they're definitely working my ab muscles, they're putting strain on my neck. My neck feels very sore and stiff after doing them, any advice?

They should not put any stress on your neck. If you put your hands behind your head, don't pull on your neck with your hands so your chin is jammed into your chest. Keep your neck straight and only move your chest. Better yet fold your arms on your chest when you do crunches or do hanging leg raises.

Well, all ab routines are designed to place stress on your abs, not on other muscle groups.

It probably means that you are using other muscles to get the crunch movements, rather than the movement coming from the abs.

got a few posts here explaining a few ab exercise techniques in detail, hope they help
