crowded gym anyone??????

I was at the gym by 10am today and it was a mad house. There are 7 free weight benches and every one was being used. People all over the place and i wasn't too happy about it. Furthermore it just reminded me that in a week or so everyone will be buying gym memberships because of a new years resolution and for a couple months my gym and probably yours will be more crowded. Weighting for treadmills and eliptical machines, not to mention lifter using all the benches and machine, locker rooms being packed and hot tubs being full. I hope it's not as bad as i imagine, but only time will tell.

Anyone else dreading new years in this way?

Yes and no. I say yes at first because I'm being selfish and dont like change. I like to walk into the gym and do my thing.

But overall the answer is no because a lot of these people are new just like i was when i started. Some of these people are fighting the same weight issues i was. Although a lot of them will lose their motivation and stop going, i wish each of them would stick with it and reach their goals of a healthy weight and a new lifestyle. Although i am not there yet, i am close enough to say that it is a great feeling to lose weight and be happy with your body.

So just remember we all were that new person taking up that peice equiptment.

Matt

I"d have to agree with you there Matt. I wish them all the luck. But like you said, I like to get in there and do my thing. I just hope it's not going to interfer too much.

luckally i picked out a gym membership that has 4 different locations in my town i can use .. one of them is almost always near empty ... depending on what time of the day i try to go ...

It is always quiet at the times i usually go to the gym, it would be nice to have more ppl around sometimes

I'd be happy if i was the only gym in the whole gym. Maybe a couple cuties on the treadmill. haha.

My gym has multiple locations but there all about the same, as far as amount of people there.

I'm not too worried. The free weights are always dead in my gym. People who join for new years resolutions will most likely stick to machines I think.

Working at the YMCA now for a year and a half I can say that the majority of the New Year's Resolutioner's will be fairly thinned down in about 3 weeks.
Though I do agree with Matt that we should all be happy to see sooo many people trying to change their lives for the better. I have had a few "old" members tell me the same thing that you have here. I just tell them, that maybe with a little bit of encouragement from them and a friendly hello, these people may actually try to stick it out longer than they ever have before.
I know how frustrating it feels to have your routine thrown all outta wack. But like Matt said, We were all at one time that new person taking up space.
*Hope this didn't come across snotty, just that I see it everyday and hear it from all the members.*

I did notice an influx of cute women, but I think maybe they were home from college on break.

The extra testosterone does wonders for my routine.

The gym is normally not a fun place to be on monday nights, but I left work at a fairly reasonable hour so decided to put in an appearance because who knows what the rest of the week will bring... Big mistake...

There was a line to check in at the front desk... checking in requires having the desk person swipe your card... so many people they were going slowly...

I head to the locker room.. .and not a spare locker to be had... and it's not a small locker room either... So I waited for a locker...

The weight room was just packed so passed on that for nothing would get accomplished so I headed up to the cardio floor... Again a line for the equipment...

These peoeple can take their stupid add yoga classes, have at it.. they can take thier other annoying classes... just leave the damn weight room free...

Now most of these people trying to make an effort will give up after a couple of weeks - that's the point behind resolutions... they just need to go away... now... it's not like the people in my gym really need to use a gym anyhow...

Sounds like you have it worse than i do. I'm all for people getting into shape and i'm always willing to spot someone or show them the correct way to perform an exercise. It's just irratating to have a packed gym, specially when it takes extra time out of your day. I feel for ya maleficent. But like someone said above, we should see it thinning out in a month or so. Unfortunely for me they closed a Ballys near my gym so no alot of those gym goers are coming to the location where i work out. So i got hit twice!!!!

I wouldn't care so much as the majority of the people at my gym (based on the demographic of my neighborhood) are 25 year old, perfectly highlighted, perfect boobs, matching ensembles, pilates princesses probably are more concerned about breaking a nail than breaking a sweat... and they travel in packs with thier high pitched voices talking about inanely vapid things that even a very loud ipod blasting heavy metal can't drown out...

I dunno. I would be happy to put up with the crowed if they were lookin like that. HAHAH. I know what you're sayin though. distractions like that can hurt your workout and thats the main concern here, that and time. I will say i have drowned out some stupid poeple before. My ipod pumps it out with heavy metal.

Thought you guys would get a kick outta this.
Was told today by the one of the regulars who uses the Fitness Center that him and a few other guys decided to lay bets on the Resolutioners.
Basically everyone who wants in on the bet chips in a dollar and chooses their "horse" so to speak.
The winner of the bet is the person who chose the individual that is still working out on a regular basis.
Everyweek that your pick continues to show up you put another dollar in.

I don't know, I go at 5am during the week and 8am on the weekends. No one is up at that hour anyway, but I wonder if it is more crowded than usual, as it is one of the only gyms in my neighborhood.

HaHa!! I like that.

I started going back to 24hr Fitness today. I went at around 4:30pm. And to my surprise they were pretty busy. All the Cardio stuff was full I had to wait a couple mins for someone to finish before I could use the treadmill. Generally a Cardio machine would never be empty for more than 5 minutes.

I guess I am lucky

We just joined a country club's newly built fitness center and at 5:30am there are only 3-4 of us there! It is wonderful to be able to learn the new machines and have the needed attention of the trainers.
