Creatine (general question)

Hi guys, i'd like to know, what does creatine do to ur muscles ? and most important, does it really make a difference for those who take it?
Ahhh and what's the aprox.quantity one has to take per day?

what creatine does is donate a phosphate to regenerate ATP. for the ones that respond to it, yes it does make a difference. that is also plenty of good research showing that too, which many other supplements do not have.

3-5 grams a day is more than enough.

agree with abear on this one.

will add: no research has been able to prove that anything fancier than Creatine Monohydrate works better (e.g. Creatine Ethyl Ester, Kre-Alkalyn, effervescent creatine).
If you take it post workout with protein, you don't even need a 'delivery system' like Cell-Tech or Phosphagen (which are just expensive names for sugar, kool-aid, and creatine pre-mixed).

I agree with both of you - it will provide your muscles with more energy, allowing you to push yourself further and hopefully, through that, make more substantial gains in size and strength (providing you're eating right and drinking gallons of water).

Also, as abear mentioned, some people, whether it is because they have high natural levels of ATP or creatine or due to a handful of other factors, just don't respond to it (i'm one of them).

Another effect is water-retention within the muscles. I've never wholly understood how or why this is achievved, but creatine leads, more often than not, to more water being stored in your muscles which can make them look bigger.

And finally, use the search button up the top there, creatine's probably one of the most covered topics in these forums.

Although the gain in weight during the first week of creatine supplementation is due to an increase in the water content of muscle, this increase in cell volume can increase protein synthesis while reducing protein breakdown — both of which are vital for muscle growth
