Good Tuesday Morning,

It has been a couple of days since I posted but things have been going well. Eating has been the same although I kind of over indulged on Saturday night but nothing major. Sunday was my LSD run and we did another 16K or 10 Miles. Finished in about 90 minutes again so was happy with the time. Looks like a sub 2 hour, 1/2 marathon may be reachable for me- we will see.

Clinic tonight. Not sure on the topic but we are going to be doing a 5K tempo run after- looking forward to it as it was rest day yesterday after that long run. I could run again the day after our long run as I am still pumped to get out there but I had better follow the schedule as I don't want to overtrain.

A couple of good things have come up in my life lately- along with the great family life and the weight loss completed-lol. I got a phone call from the media relations of the race I am running in August and they had a call from our local paper and they wanted to do a story on some people running the race. She wanted to know if I was interested. Talked to my wife and I am usually a pretty low key- don't bring attention to myself kind of guy-lol. She said that I should step out of my box and do it- so I called her back and told her yes. I haven't heard from the guy at the paper yet so don't know if it is a go or not but I guess I will see what pans out.

The second thing is I got a job interview. I haven't been real happy at my job for a bit now and applied ( not seriously) for a job I thought looked interesting and they called just after the media person from the race called-lol. I am not sure if the job will pan out either but I am a wait and see kind of guy as well-lol.

Weight is still the same and running is going good.

That is it for today. Have a great Tuesday!!

Hey Cowboy, how are things going with you?

Hi Cowboy! It is relieving to see you are continuing to achieve success. Sounds like good things are happening to you. I have no doubt your running will continue to go well. You seem to have really found your stride, pun intended. :D

Derrick

Hey Cowboy - this month is flying by. First congrats on the loss of your double chin (the doubledouble made me smile).

Sounds like things are really going well for you. I think it is excellent to have people in your life pushing you to get out of your comfort zone.......helping you grow even as you approach 50! Woohoo - do let us know how that works out.

That eye issue sounds really painful - eek.

Rooting for you as the half marathon draws near. Go Cowboy!!!!!

Good Friday Morning,

Wow I can't believe that it has been over a month since I posted on here. I have been really busy- training for my 1/2 marathon and starting a new job. Thanks for your posts, Steve, Derrick and Jennifer. I am not sure where everyone is. I have been lookking out for TIgpuppy, Janvier, Shawnna, etc but it seems everyone is either busy or left-lol.

Okay, let's get started. I am another year older as of last Sunday. Actually I am in another decade now-lol. Yup that's right I turned 50. Scary to say. I ran my 1/2 marathon this past Sunday on my 50th birthday.. My wife and daughter and my old boot camp instructors came out to watch. There was about 4000 people in the 1/2 marathon. I have never seen anything like that- it was so cool. As I was running along at the start of the race I look ahead and could see 1500 people ahead of me like a big snake. Something I will never forget. The race started at 7:30 in the morning so it was cool out. As the race progressed it got hotter and hotter. The race went fine but by the middle or so it was very hot out. Hard to believe the tempertature could change that quickly. Anyway, I ran with some of my clinic runners for a bit but I had set my goal of a sub 2 hour 1/2 and I needed to speed up to attain that goal. I ended up running with people but I didn't know them-lol. It was a great environment with everyone laughing and spectators along the course yelling encouragement to everyone. At 13K I started feeling some burning in my feet- like I was getting a blister or two but I kept running. Hit my wall at about 19K- stopped for about 30 seconds to gather my thoughts as my legs didn't want to move anymore-lol. Feet hurt a lot by then but I kept running. I was hobbling by the time I crossed the finish line- that's right I finished- YIPPEE!!. My time was 2:06:58. Not bad for an old guy with sore feet. When I got home I took off my runners and I had some major blisters- don't read any further if you have a weak stomach as this gets pretty gross. My baby toe and the toe beside it was just two big blisters. I had two deep blisters on the underside of my foof at the base of my toes and I had another blister on the ball of my foot. I don't know why I blistered this time as I have run this distance in training with no problem. I had proper footware and socks but still blistered. I needed to pop the blisters to get the fluid out of them so I did. I used a needle that had alcohol poured on to disinfect it. As it turned out my whole foot got infected. It swelled up to twice its size. So I just finished a 1/2 marathon and now I can't walk to the bathroom-lol. I got some antibiotics from my doctor and things are just about back to normal but it was interesting for a day or so. Doctor said if the infection starts to move up my leg to get into the hospital. So that is my 1/2 marathon story. I am so glad I did it and even though the time wasn't what I had planned for, considering the heat and my injuries I am quite proud anyway. It was a great way to spend my 50th birthday and I will never forget it.

My weight is still the same at 175 pounds. Eating has been the same. I haven't run since Sunday but plan to get back at it as soon as I can. I am still shooting for the marathon next year in Vancouver but after the 1/2 I don't know if I have a full marathon in me-lol- I will see.

I hope everyone has a great Friday and a great weekend!!

Nice cowboy! I can't imagine running for two hours straight. Congratulations though, that's a great accomplishment. You should be very proud of yourself! I'm glad that your doing well, was a little worried for a bit there :p. Take care!

Thanks, Steve. It was an interesting thing for me to do on my 50th birthday-lol. You could run for 2 hours - you just have to train for it. Believe me if I can do it so can you. Thanks for stopping by!

I have been very busy as of late. Started a new job ( working lots of overtime). Kids are back in school- well just about all of them- the other two start back in University next week. I haven't run in two weeks- still letting my feet heal. I am going to run tomorrow though for sure. Just a short 5K run to get back into it again. Not having run I have been watching my diet like a hawk. Haven't gain at all- which is good. Still at 175 - I fluctuate 3 pounds up or down but that is all. Miss running big time- can't wait to get back to it. I am going to run recreationally for the next 4 months or so then start training for my marathon in January. That is it for today.

Have a Great Friday,

Cowboy - a big CONGRATULATIONS for finishing the 1/2 marathon. I'm so happy to hear you finished! Wow - what an accomplishment. Hopefully your feet are well healed now and running is again part of your routine. Excellent that you have stayed at the same weight.

Thanks, Jennifer. I haven't been here for a while but I am still doing well. I have been busy at life and haven't been running as much but I am still running-lol. My wife and I went to Kauai for a week last week and I ran a 10K race there. I will be training for the marathon in Vancouver next year. I think it is in May sometime. How are things with you? Still fighting the fight? I noticed you haven't been posting either. Is everything all right with you?

Amazing journey you've had there Cowboy. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the forum. Have started with walking and will soon be starting back at jogging once the ice melts and hope to fit in a half marathon. Longest I have completed to date was a 10 miler back in 2009.

It has been more than a year and an half since I have posted here. Nothing much has changed in my life except that I have gotten a year and a half older-lol. I have now run numberous 5 and 10 K races and three 1/2 marathons. I still haven't run that elusive Marathon. The past 7 months have been interesting. I have gained some weight as I didn't have a race to train for. I gained about 25 pounds but have lost just about all of it again. It is amazing when you don't run as much - and don't watch EVERYTHING you eat how the weight can slowly creep up on you.

I don't know how many of you out there that I still know and are still a part of this forum but I thought I might come back more often just for some added support. I know I need to start training for another race as I am definitely goal oriented with my running. If I don't have a goal or a race then I don't run as often or as long as I should. Lesson learned--- I hope.

Well for any of you out there that are still around, I trust you are all doing okay. If you aren't, let's start this thing back up again so we can support one another again.

The weather here has been wet. I went for a run yesterday in the rain and I forgot how nice it is to run when it is cool and raining. It is very invigorating. I have always had problems running when it is hot and the older I get the more it becomes an issue.

I am still losing some of the weight I gained. I don't have much left so running has become easier. I didn't realize how much 25 pounds can put a hamper on my running. Now I know why these distance runners are so slim. Live and learn.

I am running in a 5 K next month- a Color Me Rad run. I have never run in this kind of a race before. It has been a while since I have run a 5K - my other races are usually 1/2 marathons. It should be fun- they rain colored corn starch on you all through the race so by the time you are finished you look like a Tie-Dyed shirt-lol.

That is it for today. Resist temptation and keep eating healthy!!

Started to run myself quite recently, training for my first race, a 10k in september. I'm still learning I guess :)
I have spoken some ppl who did such a color race recently. Sounded like loads of fun, but don't be expecting a PB on a color run, it's more about having fun than about your time, from what I understand.

Hi Guideon,

I have been running for a couple of years now but I am STILL learning too-lol. Makes it interesting to learn about things that work and things that don't. For instance I found out I couldn't swallow GU- which is a supplement that is like really thick sticky jello. I got it in my mouth and honestly could not swallow it. So now I stick to power I add to my water. Live and learn.

Good for you for training for a race. Setting goals and training really gets into your blood . Before you know it you will be training for a half marathon. Maybe even a marathon!! I absolutely love to run but that love never developed within me until I was 49 years old-haha.

Yeah I realized when I signed up to do the run - it is not a race but a fun run that is about the experience not about getting a PB. It does look like a lot of fun though.

Good luck in your race. You will do great. Enjoy the experience and remember, don't start out too fast-lol.

Well, I have finally gotten off my butt this week to get some running in. So far I have run twice this week. A far cry from the 5 times a week I was running. Although to be fair I am not training for a race but would still like to up the running to at least 3 times a week. I think I need to have a goal so I will look at signing up for a race in the next little while.

On other fronts, I am busy as ever. Food control has been good. I am still losing and figure I have about 15-20 pounds to get back to where I was. Although experience has taught me that the last 10 pounds takes a long time. The last time it almost took me longer to lose that last 10 pounds as the 135 pounds before it.

That is it for today. Everyone keep strong

The weekend went well. No running but watched what I ate for food. Even hit a buffet but didn't overdo it. Have a 5K fun run in a couple of weeks- a Color Me Rad run where they throw color corn starch at you and you come out from the race looking like a tie-dyed shirt-lol. Shoud be fun. I am still looking to do a longer race either later this year or early next year. I would love to finally do a marathon but I will see how it goes. I don't know if anybody is reading this and have been trying to get some of your diaries read as I recognize some of your "names" or the names of your diaires. I am looking forward to catching up with some of the diaries I haven't read as well.

In the meantime, Keep Strong.

Hi Cowboy! I also love to run but struggle if I don't have a race to train for, so I figured I'd pop in and say hi. My next big race is in September so I should be getting more focused any day now :) You'll have a great time at Color Me Rad. It's fun to be a kid again, and to have your goal be to ruin as much of the crisp white clothing as possible!

Hi Laura,

Thanks for stopping by. What race are you training for? What distance do you normally run? Yeah I have having a real problem with no goal race to train for. I am really goal oriented anyway never mind when I am running. Time to sign up for something. I normally run 1/2 marathons but am trying to push myself to up the distance to a marathon. I don't know how many of those I can do - at my age-lol but I want to at least do one.
