Cory's Quest for a Healthier Life

I really want to go to pilates tonight, but I don't think I will. My brother suggested I take a rest day. It's been six days since I've had one, so it's probably sound advice.

It does bother me that I won't get the exercise points for the challenge today though.

Your brother is right, Rest days are important.

Yup, rest is important. I find that if I skip mine, my energy levels plummet soon afterwards.

Don't worry about the points... it's good to hit them when we can, but we need our rest, too.

Rest day sounds good actually - but if you are not ready for a rest day yet: maybe you can do something at home for just half an hour - get some exercise from youtube. I do that sometimes.

You could put some Ska on and start skanking along. That should count as exercise. A half hour of would be quite a workout. :)

Alright, so I'm glad I took a day off. My knee is hurting a little today. I guess I just hadn't noticed because I was so focused on what I was doing.

Mr. Vee, I'm not sure if you played every single Op Ivy song end to end that they would add up to half an hour. :p

I understand about the rest day anxiety. Sometimes I have to force myself to take one too, but as others said, they can be very beneficial to the process as a whole. So feel good that you are that tuned in to your body!

So, I ate A LOT today. I probably had 3000-3500 calories. My brother and I went out to lunch and then a friend asked if we could go to dinner with him. Between the two, I ate more food than I have been. I'm not feeling too bad about it because you can't be an angel all the time, but I will need to be careful the rest of the week and go lower calorie to try and mitigate the damage I did today.

hey Cory - no worries on an odd higher cal day, it can help keep metabolism up, just be sure to get right-back on track tomorrow. :)

Good idea to take a rest-day on the exercise, pushing too hard can lead to injuries, then you are really in a pickle... ;)

I find the days I exercise I eat really well and the days I don't I eat alot more so i'm trying to not have a day off haha :)

Hey Cory - when you gain weight fast - you can lose it just as fast. Fact. Well experience more like... :D
So by being sensible with calories and putting in the exercise - you will be fine - might even drop lbs!

Alrighty, I'm trying to be sensible with my food over the next few days. Usually I try to be around 2000 calories, but for the next few days I'll be closer to 1500 to try and even out yesterday's bad behavior. Tonight I'll be having chicken marinated in red wine with mushrooms, onion, and red pepper. Will try to reduce the red wine into a sauce. Should be around 700 calories.

Cory, that sounds delicious! I'm glad to see that you're not beating yourself up for the higher calorie day, and instead adjusting going forward. That's admirable!

As we're all finding.... life happens. The last few days has been tough for me, trying to negotiate social obligations and still eat right. Your attitude will pull you through. Keep it up, Cory!

Feeling really good today. I FINALLY started my period. I was beginning to get paranoid that 9 lbs had just spontaneously stuck themselves back to me. The only thing is that I get really lethargic during my TOTM and I hate it. I've had so much energy lately that feeling that drop makes it seems like I'm where I used to be. Not a good feeling.

I was thinking about something today as well. I legitimately love exercise now. I never thought I would be one of those people. I won't say that I love every form of exercise, but so far I've loved zumba, pilates, and yoga. It's just.....really nice not to feel dread when I get ready to go to the gym like I used to.

I did manage to stay within the 1500 calorie limit today and my food was delicious. I've never made a red wine sauce before, but it came out bangin'. My brother and I will definitely make that again. I've also started drinking a mug of green tea in the morning and evening now because I read an article about it boosting metabolism. Not too much though because it can hurt the kidneys and heart!

Congratulations on liking exercise! The key is to find what works for you, and it looks like you did!
Keep it up kiddo!
Sarah

OMG we are so similar...with the whole TOM thing - I couldn't believe I was putting so much weight on! Ugh!!! & retaining water for 2 weeks.
But as we said it before - those pounds are melting away just as we start the competition - good timing!

Also I am with you on the big bone-thing - hahaha - you were talking about on MrVee's thread!!
I was 200 lbs (5f8) and I looked slim!!! My goal weight is 180 (as for BMI - I m still considered overweight...until I go under 164)

Yay for exercise love!!!

Was not part of the big bone convo, but I can definitely relate. 156 does not seem like a lot until you realize that I am 5'1"! (I am *overweight until I hit like 130! :willy_nilly:) But I think I just a. have bigger bones and b. have more muscle than a typical 5'1" stature person might. Anyways, sorry to interrupt...lol!

Great job on staying in your target calorie range! That red wine sauce does sound positively yummy!!
