Cord's Quest

Right. Today is a new day.

After breakfast I went for an hour's walk, then hit the gym for another hour:

Warm-up: stretching (and the previous hour's walk)
Chin-up: came so close - nose cresting the bar
Pull-up: about halfway
Squats: 160lbs 5x5
BB bench press: 110lbs 5x5
Tricep pressdowns: 120lbs 5x5
Lat pulldowns: 100lbs 5x5
Upright row: 120lbs 5x5
Pec-dec: 100lbs 5x5
Pec-dec reverse flys: 90lbs 5x5
V-crunches 5x5
DB shoulder press: 30lbs 5x5
Wrist roll-ups 10bs 1x5
Finished with 5 minutes on the rowing machine at 200 watts. Seemed pretty hard to me.

Now I'm sore and tired, but feel virtuous.

Hey everyone.

I'm off to a wedding in Penticton tomorrow, so I will be offline for a couple of days.

I hope you are all having a good weekend. See you again on Tuesday.

Hello Cord,

Take Care on your trip to Penticton, my mom is in that area, close to anyhow, some of her cliental lives throughout Pen.

I was wondering if maybe you may be interested in doing another triathalon thingy in the club challenges for September? What we did with Derrick... For Running/Walking Swimming & Biking & which ever else needs to be worked on? I need to push myself out the door again.

Thanks for giving me a Heev Ho yesterday morning. :)

Thanks for kicking me in the butt. I'm slowly getting back on track. Ate kinda okay yesterday - too much but reasonable choices. Didn't get half the exercise I wanted to, but still got in an hour's swim.

Today is a new day.

You're quite welcome sir. Have foot, will travel is the motto.

Post as soon as you have time my friend. From the looks of your Saturday moring routine here though, it sounds like you turned the train around and are once again going full steam (in the right direction).

Hey, I'm back.

Been back for a few days, actually, but haven't felt much like posting. Still on holiday and running around doing stuff.

Let's see, in a nutshell: food not going well at all. Exercise is okay.

Hit the gym this morning:
chin-up and pull-up attempts did not go well
squats 170lbs 2x5 - knees were hurting a bit so 165 3x5
bench press 120lbs 5x5
lat pulldown 110lbs 5x5 (finally broke through the 100lb barrier I was stuck at)
tricep pressdown 120lbs 5x5
upright row 120lbs 5x5
wrist roll-ups 10lbs 1x5
pec-dec 100lbs 5x5
pec-dec reverse flys 100lbs 5x5

Yesterday I did what is now an abbreviated swim set - 1000m. Normally I swim 1500m now, but it was the morning after the long drive back from the wedding, and I was pretty bagged.

Monday was just larking about in the lake, nothing strenuous. Sunday (the wedding) I spent a couple of hours late at night helping clean up after the reception and hauling stuff, so it was a workout of a sort...

Every lil bit helps:)

Did you enjoy the wedding?

It was very nice. Right on the beach, ducks walking around the couple.

All right, so today was (shudder) weigh-in day.
Two weeks ago I was down to 261. Last week I was up to 265. Over the last week I have not exactly been eating carefully. I even had a coke after the wedding reception clean-up. Not much veggies, lots of white bread and ice cream.

Today I am still 265, which I am okay with. I fully expected to have gained.

I also checked my body fat at the pharmacy. That was interesting, as it says I am down to 30.5% bf, down 1% from two weeks ago.
I take these readings with a grain of salt, as I know how much they can vary from day to day, and usually look only at long-term trends.
However, I need a little sunshine in my quest right now, so I looked at the numbers.
If the above reading is accurate, and if the previous reading was also accurate, I have added 5 pounds of lean body mass over the last 2 weeks. I suppose it is theoretically possible - while my food has been off track my exercise has been just fine.

Forgot to add yesterday that I also went for a 1/2 hour's kayak - nothing strenuous, just a nice paddle around Horsefly Lake, which was glass-smooth and crystal-clear. Very pleasant.

This morning I did my 1500m swim set. Will likely go for a walk later today.

That sounds beautiful!!!

Good job on your bf...and hey with your weigh tyou maintained it didnt go up more which isnt shabby at all if ya havent been good...

I think if i ever manage to get married, ha ha ha...I would love to have a beach wedding...Im in love with the ocean and beach...Im an island girl at heart, spent 10 yrs living on Vancouver Island....8 - 18 had my oldest daughter there in Campbell River:)

I agree, that does sound magnificent. Cord, man, I envy you that you manage to get out into nature so much as part of your workouts. I get some during my jogs, but it is always the same little cross country trail around my city's golf course. I need a lake or super-mega-awesome bike trails nearby or something.

A question about your squats, since I hope to be caught up to your current weight with them in 5 or 6 weeks and I'm curious about form at high weight, are you going thighs parallel to the ground or breaking the plane for deep squats?

Usually I start by going just below parallel, but by the later sets I am only going parallel. I think. It is hard to remember while sitting here not doing them. :)

i feel like i would die if i went past parallel. but i realize i squat anywhere from 105 to 125 more. I think i'm more scared too lol.

So, another day goes by.

Food was good yesterday. Stayed almost within my caloric budget, got all my macros in a good balance, hit all my other nutritional targets. Still felt hungry at the end of the day, but I think that is because I have become used to eating more than that during my time off.

Breakfast was lean pork, bread with organic peanut butter, and a banana. Lunch was a ham and roast beef sandwich. Snacks were some nuts and dry cereal. Supper was a big-ass salad, grapes and watermelon.

Workouts are taking a bit of a beating right now, though. Haven't hit the pool or gym in three days. For the last two days I have been going for an hour's walk in the morning. They are good solid walks, up and down some hills, steady pace, and I do get a bit sweaty.
I have been getting some pains in my right hip/leg, and my right shoulder blade. I don't know whether I'm just sleeping weird or if I have been over-exercising.
I think today is going to be a day off, and we will see if that changes anything.

Yesterday sucked.

I ate crap - went to a birthday party for my daughter's friend, and overloaded on crappy food - snack mix, a hot dog, 1.5 hamburgers, 2 slices of ice cream cake.
Made me ill, but while I was there I was an eating machine. What the hell is wrong with me? I'm actually a little worried that I am sabotaging myself.

My body has been complaining of late, so I have been taking it easy. Yesterday I did almost nothing, to give my body a bit of a break.

Well, not absolutely nothing. I did start the 100 pushups challenge, as well as the 200 situps and 200 squats challenges.
Yesterday I did my initial tests:
35 pushups
60 squats
45 crunches

and then did the first day of the pushups programme:
14/18/14/14/20 (60 second rest in between sets)

This morning I went back to the gym, since I was feeling better. I had been having pains in my right hip/ass/leg and right shoulder blade. I didn't know whether it was some nerve thing, or overtraining, or what, so I took a few days without swimming or lifting. Last night I also took away one of my pillows, to sleep flatter.
Something worked, because I felt a lot better this morning. So in I went.
And promptly hurt myself - pulled something in the upper left side of my back, right below the shoulder blade. But here's my workout:
Chin-up: about 3/4 of the way up
Pull-up: about 1/2 way
Squats 170lbs 5x5
DB bench press 50lbs 4x5, 1x4 (failed)
Lat pulldown 110lbs 2x5, 100 lbs 3x5
DB shoulder press 35lbs 1x5, 1x4 (failed), 30lbs 1x1, 3x5
Tricep pressdown 120lbs 5x5
Upright row 120lbs 1x5 (hurt back), 110lbs 1x5 (still hurt), 100lbs 3x5
Pec-dec 100lbs 5x5
Pec-dec reverse flys 100lbs 5x5

Then I hit the pool for 500m

Quite disappointed that some of my lifts seem to be actually going down, but that may just be because I took some time off.

no worries my friend, you can build the strength back up. just be careful with injuries. it sucks not being able to work out when you are craving to get out there... and and thanks for the compliment. i was looking at more traditional colors the afternoon before the dinner, and i was like, why not, i can make this work, so i went with purple.

Hello Cord,

I think the idea sounds really good. If I get started with weight resistance and what not for September I'd like to see how many pounds I could lift during a month. That would be fun too!

It doesn't have to be the triathalon quest either, just more so adding up our miles, distances, pounds, ect and having a support thread. A mini challenge, type of thing. I would like to at least get in 111.22 miles ran for the month of September, I believe it to be realistic.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You're very active, more so than I, and I think you're coming along stupendously!!
Because it's been quite a bit since I've pushed myself, my running stamina has slowed a bit, but we can always build on it like Kureransu mentioned. And away you'll go.. no problem.
Take Care
Lata
HiYa Cord,
THISVVVV
Cord and RunningGirl's Crazed September Workout Challenge?
MPH Challenge (miles/pounds/hours)?
One of those sounds great, especially MPH, my creativity skills have been hitting a drought as of late, and Simplicity is best. Since we can refer to it as MPH. Simple. I like. Do you?
So next Tuesday it is than, our new mini challenge ourselves.
Hey Kureransu, so you'll be joining us I see for a goal of 60 miles run for the month of September?
Oh P.S. I had included my walking miles into my running miles. So we'll see.. :willy_nilly:
Okay, haven't posted for a couple of days.
I haven't been eating well, but also haven't been eating really poorly. Just kind of off - programme, you know?
Trying to keep up with the exercise, though. Yesterday was a 30 minute walk at work followed by a swim in the evening. Felt like crap, started a bit late, and didn't finish my usual set. Only got 1250m, and really wasn't enjoying it as much, except that I had just bought now and better goggles and they worked great.
Today I did some pushups just before going to work. I am doing the 100 pushups challenge and am just starting. I did set of 20/25/15/15/28, 90 second rest between sets. 103 total.
At work I took a 30 min walk for lunch.
Tonight I hit the gym. I have decided to change my routine around and see how things change.
After stretching and a 5 min warmup on the elliptical:
Chin-up: got to about eye level
Squats: 180lbs 1x5, 1x4, 170lbs 1x6, 1x5, 165 lbs 1x5 - clearly today was not the day to try to increase weight.
Barbell shoulder press: 80lbs 1x5, 70lbs 1x5, 1x4, 60lbs 1x6, 1x5 - thought I could lift more using a BB than with DBs, but couldn't sustain it.
Barbell bench press: 120lbs 3x5, 1x4, 110lbs 1x6 - getting weaker...
Inverted rows (first time trying them): 1x7, 1x6, 1x5 - those are really hard! But they made me feel great for some reason.
Wrist roll-ups 10lbs 1x5
Deadlift (also first time, so being cautious): 110 lbs 3x5
Then 5min elliptical to "cool down"
Overall, although really hard, the workout felt great and I am going to try it for a while to see. Since all the lifts are compounds, it was a lot harder than the stuff I was doing on the machines. We shall see if it pays off with results.
What I'm not understanding is why I seem to be getting weaker. Maybe I have been overtraining. Maybe I need to drop the weight a little and work lighter for a short while. I don't know.
