Cord's Quest

"my initial goal is to get to 280. I am hoping to be able to accomplish that within four months"

Considering you wrote that on 5th April and 2 months later you're just 7 lbs away from the goal, I'd say a job very well done.

I 100% agree. Conservative goal or not, you kicked some butt. Keep at it!

Hi Cord! Greetings from the Puddle!

Really nice to have stumbled across your journal yesterday, was a great read and I look forward to following it! Was also really nice to have the point slammed home that I am not alone out there... maybe it was the fact that were in the same town... not sure.

I can empathize with alot of what you've posted! Your doing AWESOME! KEEP IT UP!

Hey, you're in Williams Lake? Cool!

You doing the Dave Jacobs run? I'm going to walk it.

Hey.

Just switched form days to midnights yesterday, so I am a little discombobulated right now.

However, I did go for me weigh-in once I woke up this afternoon.

284! Down three more!

Checked my body fat at the pharmacy on the impedance machine - 35%

Over the last week or two it has been 35-36%. I'm rounding to the nearest 1%.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Congrats!

Thats 3 less to lose man! Im afraid to get on the scale again...actually I really want too, but I promised myself id wait a month :(

No, I wont be going to the run... im pretty anti-social :(

Just got back from the pool - first time doing actual swimming (as opposed to just larking about) in about five years.

Did 850m in around 45 min (can't see the clock without my glasses so am not exactly sure) - it felt awesome.

Now to grab an hour's nap before heading in to work for the midnight shift.

Peace out, all!

Denizens of the night, unite!

I get you about the feeling lost part about going into the gym at first. I just posted this site elswhere too, I kind of like it, because it gives decent info on exercises and form. ExRx (Exercise Prescription) on the Net

I started with the machines, and little by little have worked my way into freeweights on a lot of exercises.

June 3

This is a short-change work day for me. I worked the day shift, then came back later to work the midnight shift. Kind of rough.

Breakfast - steel-cut oats with agave nectar

Mid-morning snack - 1 orange

Lunch - salmon caesar salad (bbq salmon, spinach, tomato, cucumber, lt caesar dressing) - put too much dressing in and it was pretty mushy by lunchtime. So sad.

Afternoon snack - 1 orange, 1 cup dry ceral

later afternoon snack - approx 4oz chocolate covered raisins

Supper - roast beef sandwich (3oz roast beef, ww bun, cream cheese), 1 inch thick round of watermelon

Midnight shift eats - lean cuisine microwave salmon with ww orzo & veg, 1 cup dry cereal, 1.5 inch thick round of watermelon

Exercise - kind of a day off today. Took two 30 minute walks, that's it.

Funny how I've got to the point now where an hour's walking is "not really exercise". Like it is my default setting these days.

Heh yea, I view the walks a standard thing too now. Gonna start increasing distance as even tho the uphill portions does get the pulse up, need to start pushing more. How you finding those new shoes? Make much of a difference?

The new shoes are great, thanks. I was, oddly, getting a blister on the heel of my left foot (which is my larger foot, and the one the shoes are sized for).

Managed to get past that by making sure my socks were tight. Think maybe I should get some proper running socks.

Otherwise they feel good. It's a real difference actually having arch support - feels weird.

Got a 10k to walk on Father's day, should be fun.

man have i been MIA here! glad to see the shoes worked out for you! gald to see you are losing losing losing! it fgeels greeat now doesn't it. As far as walking not feeling like exercise, it gets like that with the gym as well. This week i know in my right mind i didn't want to go to the gym. but just out of habit i got up, but on the the gym clothes and went and worked out. Its not as bad once i get there brut the whole time body is like why are we doing this again? and the mind is like keep moving! ask questions later! I have never not wanted to go, but i have just been worn and i know it was wearing me down! i'm not recovering enough lol, but that will all change in these next 9 days of bliss.... enough about me! keep it up man, i'll be on maybe for a min tomorrow and i will be off to see the wonder wizard of R and R!

June 4

Wake-up snack - 1/2oz roast beef

Second "snack" - I decided that perhaps there is room in my lifestyle for the occasional sugary beverage. Maybe I'm wrong. But, I was at the playground with my daughter, and it was really hot, so we went and got a medium lime slurpee afterwards. I had about 2/3 of it and my daughter had the rest. It was pretty tasty. I'm wondering if I can fit in one a week during the hot months, or maybe it is the thin end of the wedge and I am letting myself in for future badness.

The daily meal - hard to space out your food when working the night shift. We had a friend over and we had a little bbq. - 1 buffalo burger, 1 salmon burger (both on ww buns w/light caesar dressing), a big heap of fruit/veg salad (watermelon, pineapple, celery, cucumber,, carrot, tomato, lettuce)

Dessert - 1 large piece (about 4"x3"x2") chocolate cake, 1/2 cup milk

Midnight shift food - the rest of the fruit/veg salad, 1 orange, 1/2 oz peanut M&M's, 1 cup dry cereal

I overate today, and definitely didn't NEED the extra calories from the slurpee and cake, but it sure was good.
I need to find a good alternative to slurpees for the summer months. I am accustomed to drinking one mega-size slurpee just about every day.
I have a nice blender/chopper thingy that mulches ice up quite nicely, and I think if I had something like juice concentrate to throw into it I could make my own slurpees. I should do that.

Exercise - went to the pool in the evening, before work. There was almost nobody there and I had a lane to myself. Clearly 8:00 PM is the time to go.
So, this was the first time I had done any lap swimming in about 5 years. I wasn't sure how it was going to go. It was a little rough at first as I had to make my body remember how to breathe while swimming, and how to make myself go forwards and stuff.
It was a blast. Makes me wonder why I ever stopped. I don't actually know how to swim, I just flail away and propel myself back and forth, but I figure I probably burn more calories that way. :)
I swam for about 45 minutes, and managed to cover 850 metres in that time. I would have ideally wanted to shoot for 1000, I still had the energy for it, but I was running out of time and had to get home for a quick nap before working the night shift.
The pretty young lifeguard was impressed that I could do 850m my first time back.

Definitely going to go swim again tonight.

Midnight shift - noticed that I haven't been doing any dumbbell work for quite some time, so I dusted off the 20lb pair and:
3x8 curls
3x8 arnold presses
3x8 tricep extensions
3x8 scarecrows
3x8 lateral raises
3x8 squats
3x8 woodchoppers
3x8 shrugs
3x8 flat flys
3x16 bench presses
3x8 hammer curls
3x8 shoulder presses
3x8 front raises
3x8 tricep kickbacks
3x8 punches

An hour later I tried to do some pushups, but I guess I was worn out and gave up at 22.

June 5

Very annoying.
I am all fired-up about swimming. I go to the rec centre in the evening for a good swim before my pre-midnight shuft nap. Turns out the rec centre closes early on Fridays, and opens late on Sat and Sun. So not only did I not get to swim last night, I won't get to swim after I finish work an hour from now.
And by the time I do get up, the pool will be full of kids.
Very annoying.

Anyway...

Breakfast - 1oz roast beef, 2 scrambled eggs, 1 cup steam-fried noodles, teriyaki sauce

Snacks - 1.5 tbs chocolate buttercream icing (yeah, I know), watermelon end

Supper - 2 cups pasta, tomato sauce, 4 chicken strips

Midnight shift - enormous slab of watermelon (between this and the earlier piece I'd say 1/4 watermelon total), medium piece of chocolate cake (2"x2"x1.5", maybe?), 1 cup dry cereal, 50g bag of hickory sticks (yeah, I know)

Exercise - no swimming :(

midnight session 1:
38 pushups (a new record!)
50 crunches
20 pushups
50 back raises
20 pushups
50 calf raises
22 pushups
20 toe touches
20 pushups

session 2 (90 min. later):
20 lb dumbbells
3x8 curls
3x8 lateral raises
3x8 tricep extensions
3x8 shoulder presses
3x8 scarecrows
3x8 shrugs
3x8 squats
3x8 flat flys
3x16 bench presses
3x8 woodchoppers
3x8 hammer-grip front raises
3x8 arnold presses
3x8 hammer curls
3x8 tricep kickbacks
3x8 punches

Nice job Cord. That's so frustration with the rec center.

I love my running socks. $8.50 is a lot for a pair of shoes but my feet are so happy with them. for a mile it doesn't matter but on my 5k-20ks you can really tell the difference.

Have a great rest of the weekend!!

Yeah the rec center can be rough. Careful if your buying passes... I bought one last year, about 5 or 6 days before they shut it down for "maintenance" for two weeks during the summer. SO my one month pass gave my family like 20 days access... I was really, really upset about it. Felt completely robbed honestly and I dont see myself forking out more $ to them as a result. Which sucks, because I really enjoy swimming.

I hear ya, that sort of thing can really be annoying. But if I want access to the facilities, I need a membership and have to take those chances. I only got a one-month right now, but if I think I'm going to stick with it I'll get a longer one next time. Cheaper per month and things like closures will probably annoy less (I hope).

glad to see your back to kicking a$$! nice. and i'm so envious about the swimming! plus it means your in super great shape too if you did 850m in 45mins on your first try! aw, my first love is swimming but i haven't swam in years due to having piled on the pounds. one of my goals is that by the end of this year (which hopefully will be midway to my goal), that i'll start swimming as well.

keep up the great work :hurray: xoxo

Thanks, Cherry!

I don't feel like I am in good shape at all. I certainly didn't do the whole 850m without stopping. It was 25m, rest, 25m, rest, 50m, rest. By about halfway through I was able to go 150m without stopping for more than a deep breath as I turned around.

Oh, and trust me, I'm pretty slow.

Today, however, I finished a full 1000m, and did the last 250m without stopping. It feels good.

I think swimming is perfect for us heavy types. You get full range of body motion without the full impact of gravity.

I've also solved the summer slurpee dilemma. I bought some Rose's lime today - a splash of that over crushed ice is just heavenly.

Yea I heard swimming is an excellent all rounder esp for those losing weight. I'm not ready quiet yet to show off my studmuffin body in a bathing suit, but its something I might get into in a few months.

Slurpies, how I love thee. I might try that suggestion. I also find freezing things like blueberries/grapes/other such fruit is great for a snack.
