Connection Between PMS and Overeating?

So I have been doing quite well on my new lifestyle. But this past week (the week before my period) I have been craving food like crazy. I just can't seem to get full on stuff that would have filled me up before.

This morning I had an apple and a peanut butter and jam sandwhich. That would tide me over for a while normally but my stomach is growling! I thought it was just boredom hunger but my stomach is actually saying it is "starving".

For all the women on this board: Do you think this is just because of PMS? I just used to overeat all the time so I guess I never noticed it before?

I thought I was getting some things under control.... This is very discouraging. :(

It's PMS, I'm in the "few days before my period" zone right now and I've been craving various foods and lots of it. I can always tell when it's almost that TOM before I even look at the calendar...my body always lets me know.

I just make sure I have good choices around so that I can munch as much as my body feels it needs to...strawberries and the like, I devour them. :p But they don't work against my body so it's ok.

It sucks being a woman sometimes. :(

Whew! Glad to hear it isn't just me. :D

I brought stuff with me to work like my apple (mentioned above), mandarin oranges and tiny carrots non-salted organic tortilla chips and organic salsa. And of course my peanut butter sandwhich on organic whole wheat bread (toasted).

I'm munching on the carrots right now. It seems to be settling my stomach.

Oh and in case anyone is wondering, Amy's brand organic salsa is the best salsa ever!! And no, it isn't my brand. :D I wish I would have come up with this stuff. I could probably just eat it withouth the chips!

I am definitely hungrier during that time of the month. The days after my period it seems like I hardly eat anything at all, but it's just in comparison to the "I have a tapeworm" feeling the week before!

I'll be looking for this brand...I wonder if they have it in Harris Teeter or Food Lion. I may have to Whole Foods.

That Happened to me too at that time of the month! This might sound lame...But
when I feel naughty like I want something Salty or sweet (or both) ;)
I will drink a big glass of water. Most of the time after that I don't crave anymore(For some reason)
I think it must be dehydration.-I know it sounds Dumb,But It what happens to me :D
Stay strong-Be happy :p

Oh, and I just tried hummus for the first time. It has helped me curb my cravings because it tastes so good and helps me eat my veggies!

It is good for ya (2tbsp = 35 calories and 1g fat). So tasty!!! It is great on raw veggies and pita bread. I'm trying it on my mock chicken patty tonight! :D

I don't eat more during PMS... But that might be because, until yesterday, I binge ate every day for about two years ^^' It feels so great not to, even if its only been two days.

You guys eat so healthily. I mean, hummus? I must be the pickiest eater on the planet, all that I really like is fruit, candy, and dry cereal :(

Congrats on your healthy choice!

I've found that since I have been getting rid of all the junk food I have opened up my palate to all kinds of tastes I never liked before. Like onions, I could never stand them before! Now, if I cook them, I'll eat them in just about anything. Same thing goes for peppers.

Hopefully as you go along you'll be able to enjoy more and more healthy foods. :D

Aww, thank you so much for the support! It makes me happy :) I really do need to eliminate some of the sugary foods from my diet and start eating *shudders* vegetables.

Maybe you're right, that if I cut out the really sweet foods I'll start to appreciate natural, not overly done artificial sweetness, and more subtle flavors. Guess I should try that tomorrow, since I'm already done eating for today.

Don't know if I'll ever be able to stomach onions though... I might have a sensory-induced heart attack, lol.

Oh heck yeah I crave crave crave a bit before, during, and a little after my period.
That's why I've been struggling this past week and will struggle this week.
I was doing great before, and then BAM... all of a sudden, I'm not getting full and want to eat everything in my sight.

i was super glad to find this post, b/c it definitely happens to me too. the week or even 2 weeks before my cycle, i'm completely ravenous! it drives me insane! i never experience any pms symptoms until after my second daughter was born and then boom...they all hit at once. drives me crazy, but yeah - i try to just keep extras of everything, but what do you do when you'd kill someone (in my case..poor david) for a snickers??? HA! that's the worst!
