Confused about pants sizes?!?

 okay. i wear pants that are like different sizes. Some of them are size 1, some size 3, and some size 8 or 10. i don't get it.....all those pants fit me except that the size three one is a little loose. is there a difference between canadian and american sizes? 'cause i live in canada and i was wondering why my sizes are so weird.

there is a difference between the american and canadian sizes. it also has alot to do with the cut of the pants. i normally wear a 00 or a 0 but i do have one pair that is a 1.. sometimes the 00 is too big also. it depends on the designer, the manuctuer and the cut.

oh thankssss. maybe that's why my sizes are all weird .=D

hmm that depends on the maker of the pant-some are too tight and some okay some too big. lol. my waist is 25" and hips are 34". and before anyone starts harping i weight 123lbs as of this morning..

this is a major pet peeve of mine. Some years ago a lot of manufacturers started "shrinking" the sizes (they claimed that women needed this ego boost!)

So now when I go to try on pants, I need to take 3 sizes in because even if I haven't changed, THE PANTS HAVE.

I hated shopping before they started this crap, but now, UGGGHHHHH

Even when I gained weight when I quit smoking, I would far rather have "real sizing" like men do - actual waist, actual hips, actual inseam - than this ridiculous guess work.

I have voted with my wallet and just don't buy clothes except when I really have to.

That was 25 inches is my waist measurment. Some companies (jeans anyway) make pants with different waist and inseam lengths. you may want to source them out and figure out what cut works best for you. I prefer low rise or hiphugger styles bc my hips and butt fit properly and the waist doesn't gap open like with a regular cut.

Must be Canadian sizing, as we have 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, blah blah

When I was at a constant weight for many years, I went from a 10 to a 6, depending on mfgr, of course. I also like the lower rise, being short-waisted.

I would LOVE to buy pants with "real measurements". Any brands that maybe show up in the states???

I found this which converts between sizes in different countries but it does not include canada

I know this is on the women's thread, but what the hell.
I agree with Smalling that manufacturers are messing with their sizing. My waist actually measures 35in (trying to lose more weight!) but I have to by 32 or 33 pants becauase the sizing is so messed up. I think that if the "true" sizes were actually in stores that more people might try to lose weight.

yeah. i agree, i think all stores should have the same number for one size so it wont get so confusing.

Great thread with a great message... don't measure your self worth on your pant size :)

I have a range of jean sizes in my closet. Company A has size 6 jeans that equal Company B's size 12 jeans. It is just all crazy. I learned a long time ago that if I measure my success and ultimately my body image on the size of my jeans... I would be doomed. The jeans sizes in the states actually got smaller!

I should have saved the study on this exact phenomena. It was a great read. Women who were always a size ___ suddenly stopped fitting into thar size. Eventually people figured out that American companies started to make their clothes slimmer than before. Certain companies were investigated (not criminally) and they admitted to this.

Yes, they did admit it, but, what irked me was that they said that the American women wanted that.

grrrrrr

There may be people that measure their self-worth by their clothing sizes, but most of us want to deal with REALITY. Perhaps the "fake sizing" should all be relegated to the Delusional clothing line...

I would buy clothes more often if it weren't so darned frustrating!!

Just to make all you skinny people feel even better about yourself I'll let you know that I too have found the biggest difference is in dress pance vs jeans.

I wear a 38 in jeans, and a 42 in dress pance. The 42 is a bit loose, but 40s are uncomfortable.
