Confused about calorie intake?

If I am 5'5 and weigh 156 lbs, how many calories should I eat each day to lose weight?

I used an online "calorie need calculator" and it said this...

You'll need at least 2,215 calories to maintain your current weight and activity level.

• Of this, 1,475 calories are required to meet your body's basic energy needs. That amount (your resting energy expenditure) is what you'd use up if you did nothing but lie in bed all day.

To lose about one pound per week, you'll need to cut back to 1,715 calories per day.

so does that mean I need to eat 1,715 calories each day to lose weight? Does that seem right? I put on the calculator that my activity level was "light".

Any help would be great..

What calculator did you use?

Sounds about right. They say to lose weight you need to cut back on your calorie intake by 500 or +500 to gain weight. My activity level is close to almost nothing. I just started to try and lose weight about a month ago. I found out I was eating about 3800 calories a day to maintain my weight. Ive cut back to 1800 calories a day and been eating ALOT better foods. So far ive lost 10lbs. BTW im 21, 6'2 and 328lbs as of today :)
