Confessions of a food Junkie

Every scale in the world is gonna give you a different weight... next week you will see a loss... based on your new scale... don't worry about it you didn't gain 4 pounds in a week... :) Relax...

Find something in your house that you know is a certain weight- preferably heavy... and put it on the scale... then see what it weighs... to see if it's close...

What your true accurate measures will be though, rather than a number, is how are your clothes fitting, and have your measurements changed? Measure you waist and your hips and check those regularly... you will see a decline

Thanks Mal,

I guess I have to look at this another way, even based on this weigh in, I've still lost 9lbs from my original weigh in so I'm not back where I started, which is good. I'll have to invest in a measuring thingy to do that.

I agree with Mal- who ever knows what scale is correct? Between the doctors office, my parents house, my own scale- and whatever other scales I happen to jump on- They all show weights that vary as much as 6 pounds from one to the next. It's too bad that your old scale went haywire~ was it digital? Maybe it just needed new batteries??

awww miss kallie I'm sorry your upset; stoopid new scale. It could be anything. maybe your not eating enough and you have slid into hibernation mode or your just at a point where the pounds aren't coming off real fast. I have good times and bad. the bad is where I fight for 3 weeks just to get one pound off. no matter how bad you feel there are others that would love to be your weight. mad I cant wait till i get into the low 300's. You'll get past it. I'm guessing your on a low calorie by you menu as of late. Ill find the weight maintenance calculator on line and well find out how many calories you should have to keep your weight and we will figure out whats going on.
lee....................

here ya go. just put in your height, weight, exercise level and it tells you how many you take in to be at your weight. depending on what it says you can cut it in half and still lose weight. thats what I have been doing and its working so far.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate it.

And Lee thanks for the perspective. I should just be happy that I'm not back where I started or higher. :) I'm going to work extra hard this weekend to take off the 3 lbs so I can be 114, so I can move my tickers back! I've got to walk for an hour atleast. I've only been doing 40 minutes, but that's not enough. I need to be down to 300- 305 by sept 6th.

ETA: ok I did the calorie thing and it said to maintain, I'd need to intake 3087 calories and based on my normal range of calories per day (1500) I should be able to lose 1.5 lbs a week or more if I start exercising more.

Yea, I guess I'm going to make a plan for myself.

I'm uping my walk to 3 miles in 1 hour once a day, 1 hour of dancing a day. I don't want to go any lower with my cals for now. I have to let my stomach adjust to this first.

I eat normally the same things everyday. I need to cut out the white rice...I don't eat white potatoes, I eat red ones (I don't know if that matters?). I've eaten red meat 5 times in the last 2 weeks. I need to cut that down to 3 or 4 max. I eat lots of fruits and veggies. Hmmm

Any suggestions on how to make my diet better??? Like for snacks...I ran out of fruit on tuesday and can't buy again until today.. do you guys think that my popcorn has been ok???

I buy a frozen turkey breast, and cook it up on a Sunday. Then take half of what's left and stick it in the freezer. Then I have turkey several times during the week rather than red meat. Then I can take the other half out when I need it or when I want to make a quick stirfry. But this last turkey I had didn't last as long as I have two men living in the house who think it's candy. It's cheaper than buying deli turkey or the pre-cooked turkey.

white rice is really just empty calories, it's not doing anythign for you... try looking at brown rice, or even some whole grains.. bulgur is really tasty, almost nutty, or quinua.... or even whole wheat couscous for something different...

you might want to add in sweet potatoes as an occassional treat,,, they've got lots of nutrients in them and a bit of fiber.

I read something recently that popcorn is an ok snack, but dentists claim it's one of the worst thigns for your teeth...

Red meat you probably want to cut back on a little, to maybe 2 times a week at most, and even then it shoudl be very lean red meat, try turkey breast, or chicken or fish for a change.

If you are using an online food journal, where does it say your nutrients are, is there anything that you're lacking and maybe you want to adjust your diet from there...

If you areeating the same thing everyday, boredom might set in and that's waht leads to cheating or binging... spice it up by using some different spices or marinades on plain chicken breasts or turkey breasts...

I think you're doing fine... you really are... you've got tons of motivation... and are doing the right thing when you need to do it :)

I rarely get bored with the same meals. I kind of need it that way, so I know what to expect. Makes me feel in control. For 8 months straight I had a chicken ceasar pita with a side of pasta salad everyday for lunch. I could still do that right now. I know I am weird, but that's my weirdness LOL.

I've never tried brown rice or sweet potatoes so this should be interesting.

I love popcorn (its my favorite thing in the whole world) but I can learn to cut way back.

My online food journal (fitday) tells me most days I have less than 15 % of fat on an average day, about 30 to 40 % of Protien and then the rest are carbs and I get about 25 grams of fibre. I eat a lot of carbs, but I have no idea how to cut back because most of my carbs come from fruits and veggies and my bagel in the morning, which gives me the majority of my fibre????

miss kallie most popcorns I have seen aren't that bad as long as your not adding butter and things like that. For me the white starches tend to make me want sweets later. That could just be me; when the gods made me i think they got creative with the wiring lol. just do everything you can to make the food not boring. If you do the frozen meals like I do for most of my diet try a large selection. try different fruits and veggies you haven't tried. As much weight as I have to lose I had to get creative so my body doesn't know its on a diet. The only time I have white rice is if I make a gumbo or If I get dragged to a Chinese buffet and then the other choice is fried rice. As far as potatoes I think the red ones have less starch but I really have to research that. To cure a sweet tooth try some sugar free candy. most are sweetened with sugar alcohols so very few calories. Just don't have too many because sugar alcohols can be a little rough on your tummy.......

Thanks guys for all your replies. I'm going to try out your ideas!

This is me signing out for the weekend. This my plan so we don't eat poorly while on the way. we're stopping at the grocery store (I haven't had lunch yet because of this). We're picking up a sandwhich each, I'm getting crispy minis for my snack and then a bottled water and some fruit. Then we're on our way.

So I'll be gone until sunday night. I hope ya'll have a great weekend!

Sorry I missed you before you left. Can't wait to hear how your weekend and the wedding went.

You've received some really great advice from these folks. All I'd add is that you really have to veiw this whole thing as a great big science experiment. You, your body, and your weight loss cycles are going to constantly change. The key is to just not get discouraged and find what works. I've had to change my plan MANY times during this whole process. And I'm sure I'll have to keep readjusting. It's normal. But keep your chin up.

And as you continue to lose weight, your sleep apnea should improve and you'll start to rest better. And once that kicks in, look out!!! You'll be a fireball of energy!!!

Hey Guys,

I'm back from the weekend. The wedding was beautiful! I avoided eating any cake so that was good.

Ok onto the food part of the weekend: I sucked! Not because I ate bad, but because I only ate 4 meals total. They do not eat regular meals, only when they feel hungry, which is like once a day and we ate out 3 of those 4 times. I tried to pick things on the small town menu that were the lesser evil.

I had 1 1/2 pancakes, with two tsps of syrup and l glass of chocolate milk.

I had half a club house (on brown) and a garden salad, 1 tsp of italian dressing with a diet grape pop (it tasted regular because it's sweetend with splenda).

(this is the bad one) I had 5 honey garlic chicken wings and 1/4 cearer salad and 1/2 a peice of garlic toast.

This was the at home one ( 1/2 a bbqed chicken breast, 1 cup of potatoe salad and I skipped the ceaser salad and the icecream for dessert)

It was sooooo hot this weekend, so I mostly didn't have any problem with my water drinking and I was outside a lot (got a little more tan).

Oh and then for snacking, I had bought thinsations cookies. They have 100 cals for a 23gram back of oreo flavored cookies. I had 3 of those over the weekend and I also had crispy minis (equvilant to quakes) instead of chips. about 200 cals for 29 minis.

I know I didn't go over my calories for the day but the not eating when I'm used to it had me tired the whole weekend and my bowels are out out of wack (sorry too much information) but my body lets me know when it's pissed off at me LOL.

I wish my last weekend on the challange would have been better.

Wow Kallie, I think you did exceptionally well. *claps*
I read your diary often because you're such a trooper. My birthday party was this weekend, and I didn't eat any cake either! YaY- I just wanted to let you know I passed up the food of all evil as well. :)

It's getting to be that TOTM for me, so my scale hates me when that happens. I really had no idea your body wieght went up and down so bad durning TOTM. I know I didn't eat enough to gain weight. (challange start weight 322, end 321.) and friday I was 317.

OK, well I've got to run and take my son to daycare and then go grocery shopping, so I'll be back on later.

I'm glad you had such a good time at the wedding! Isn't it fantastic how much more tuned in you are to your body now? You know that eating only one meal a day totally threw you off- I think you did great considering the circumstances. Keep it up!

Hey Kallie:

Just stopping by to say Hi and see what you were up to, you're doing good. Congrats to you. I'm happy to be back here and on track again. See ya around....:D
