COMPLETELY new to all of this. Need some pointers.

Hi. This is my first post on these forums, so sorry if I'm in the wrong forum.

I'm a 19 year old overweight guy, about 6 feet tall, 230-240 pounds.

After college, in about 9 months, I plan on going in the USAF. I understand the physical restrictions going in the military and I would like to overcome those before even starting the process.

As of now, I'm an IT major, a geek if you will, I rarely go out, rarely work at or anything like that. I'm willing to change that asap. But, the only problem is, I'm completely clueless on how to go about this. I understand the concept behind dieting and have done minimal research into it, but it's the whole working out thing I'm clueless on.

I'm wondering if anyone could give me some pointers on where a COMPLETE overweight beginner would go to start getting in shape, with a 9 month time restriction.

Well done on deciding to get in shape.

As you are new to this, start slowly and give your body time to adjust. Start off with a fast walk/jog 2-3 times per week. Set a time limit of 30 minutes, jog and walk when you need to.

Supplement this with some bodyweight conditioning work - squats, press ups, sit ups, inverted rows. Do this 2-3 times per week in a circuit format (minimal rest).

The other option I was considering was biking. Any thoughts against that( as opposed to jogging/walking?)

Go for it - anything to get moving at this stage is good. I'd imagine that there will be some running involved in selection for the USAF so do start adding some runs when you feel able.

Have you done any of the exercises I mentioned before?

Maybe consider joining a local gym and getting onto a personal trainer course who can help you gradually build up. They are the experts and so can advise on what exercise you should be doing. Its also really fun as you are in a fun, motivating environment.
